    This is going to be a little lengthy so I apologize!
    Just wanted to say thank you so much for the wealth of information you have on your RUclips channel. I'm in my 20s and have put off getting hearing care for far too long (a mixture of lack of money + denial due to my age) and when I finally decided to make that decision, I was surprised to find out that other than your channel there simply isn't a lot of information publicly available. I like to do a lot of research beforehand and without your channel it would be incredibly difficult to be an informed consumer. I have my first appointment tomorrow and thanks to your channel I feel so well-prepared. So seriously, I truly appreciate the wealth of knowledge you freely provide.

      Why it is much people when they discover they having hearing loss feel ashame even wearing hearing aids or that letting to know people you wore hearing aids is embarasing. I was born with hearing loss and wore hearing aids with no complex. I never felt self concious about it nor less than other and I could not care less about what about what people tell me about me wearing hearing aids. Besides, what chances there is that people laugh at or mock at someone who need hearing aids to improve his or her quality of life? Maybe decrimination of being deaf or having hearing loss would make sense but hearing aids that would not make sense at all. Not all people are intolerant or bad toward us.

    Nice video sir. My one and only ITE's are the MircaleEar ITE...had them for 1.5 years (FINALLY overcame the "stigma" of having to wear hearing aids!) and have not "looked back since". As a musician I was stunned to discover the frequencies which had been lost due to age, etc. Thank you for being in one of the medical fields which produce results, immediately! What a blessing you and your profession are, sir!

    I've been wearing the Lyric since 2011. It's definitely true that nobody will know you are wearing a hearing aid, but the cost is what will get you. They are $1,750-2,250 for each ear depending where you go and that is also only the price PER YEAR. It's a subscription device but I will say that I believe the sound is much more natural than any digital hearing aid out there.
    Also, if your traveling and the devices die, you pretty screwed unless you have back ups. This has happened to me multiple times traveling internationally. Because they aren't exactly quick to remove and put back in, I for the most part haven't gotten into a pool or an ocean since 2011. I'm still a Lyric user, 10 years strong.

      $1K-$3K per ear... you are not only paying for the device, but all the unseen things that make this device possible. You must measure the hearing loss, apply a prescription to the device, then measure to ensure prescription matches the device performance... Then come back periodically and re-test, confirm, etc. watch for ear drift, etc. Or, you could roll the dice and get a generic device that is not tuned to your loss curve, and basically not use all the tools at hand to prevent further loss, or even risk damaging what's left... Let's hope OTO-313 can regrow stereocilia in phase II!! Perhaps they can deliver via Eustachian tubes (blow nose upside down) rather than inject through the eardrum... lol 💉👂🦻🎧

      @@meric12131415 Literally a "Tympanic Membrane Injection" is a puncture in said membrane. I want to encourage them to investigate the Eustachian tubes as a route. Say get upside down on a teeter while blowing nose with medication in nose... I also think science needs to uncover how COVID-19 causes tinnitus; Said mechanisms and pathways need to be understood, both for how to prevent, and how to cure. Does virus attack the ears via mucosae or the sinus, etc... For example Lou Ferrigno attributes his profound hearing loss to a series of ear infections he suffered in his infancy that resulted in nearly 80 percent hearing loss... If these could be understood I think we'd be better off. Need to know the cause before the cure, often...
      I was going to sign up for OTO-313 Phase II, but I didn't want to risk a 50% chance of a placebo injection through the eardrum...

    • @thetruthserum2816
      @thetruthserum2816 3 года назад +1

      for example, blow your nose too hard, and mucosae gets blown in there... could that be a route for infection to the inner ear, and also a route for medication to repair or regrow stereocilia.

    I got the Phonak Virto M90 Titanium. Best hearing aid I ever got. Lyric has so much feedback and it won't stop. Tried others too but, not good as Virto M90 Titanium. Since I am still young, I really want it to be discreet as possible. The only con from it is it doesnt have a bluetooth connectivity. I understand that it is due to its small size but it would be really great if they would come closer to that. Maybe in the future!

    Thank you. I'm amazed there's still only 1 rechargeable ITE that has bluetooth. I feel w/o recharging capabilities, the whole maintenance every few days for battery changes is a no starter starter for me... I bought some Eargo's a couple years ago... they worked ok but did not have bluetooth and literally stopped recharging right after warranty. There's no repairs, just replacements at discounted rates... that's their plan I believe, expect to replace them every 2 years... now I just picked up a pair of Ceretone JHW2 as a stop gap something for when I go out... believe it or not, earbuds (they are big) seem more acceptable than seeing a BTE unit based on the stigmatism of being a senior... at less than $500, will give it a run till I plan for another set of multi thousand $ units... hopefully more rechargeable ITE options for 2022.

    I have had a mild to moderate hearing loss and hearing aids since i was 8 years old. The first pair that I had, i hated how they looked but everything sounded fine so that wasn’t the issue.. Although I was barely wearing them because I hated them and thought they were super gross… and when I was about 10 years old I was playing with my brother and he by accident slapped my ear when he jumped on me and it perforated my eardrum and that had to wait to be closed up in case it was to get infected because i had a lot of ear infections when i was very little but that subsided as I aged.. So about a year ago I went to a new ENT and had the tympanoplasty done..(I am now 21 ) After that was done and healed my ENT was telling me all about the new kinds of stuff they have and i thought I’d check out what they had jn store for me.. And she told me about the new lyric hearing aids from phonak, so I thought i’d give it a try.. they sounded great and helped me hear,.. although they caused too much other problems and i unfortunately only lasted about 3 months with the lyric.. so then i switched to new IIC hearing from starkey and i am just not a fan of the way my voice sounds in my head with them… I feel like sound really gross sometimes I also don’t like the blocky feeling that they cause… well most of the time everything else around me sounds clear although sometimes i get a static sound with that too.. and I kind of either sound pretty staticy or boomy and im really not a fan.. I also am a singer and sometimes they give me a hard time with it when they get staticy and it really drives me crazy.. I do like the style and id really wish those could work but i really don’t know what to do but when i see my audiologist again I’m sure they’ll hopefully be able to fix it, but any suggestions on what else to tell them when i go back? Also do you know what other hearing aids are good for singing? Cuz with the lyric it was amazing for singing but unfortunately I’m unable to use those

    Thank you for your review. I always appreciate your perspective. I tried the phonak black and there were problems with the phone app. Every time I would get a notification it would clear my settings. I like most people looking for this level of Technology need to be in contact with my phone. I also tried the Starkey Livio Edge. Phone connectivity was horrible. It continually disconnected. I returned both of those hearing aids within the trial period. I ended up going with the ReSound Quattro helix. That one is working really great for me. Ironically I ended up getting that one from Costco. The first two that I tried that did not work for me for premium hearing aids through private caring professionals. And neither of those worked.

    Dr. Cliff. First, I feel like you are not being totally upfront with me. You are saying that…..other than BELLTONE…….I can choose any hearing aid company that I want. Go to them, be assessed, and choose from the many brands that they carry. Meaning that ALL companies carry the SAME brands. Say company A carries 5 brands of aids. Around the corner Company B also sells those same 5 brands. And on and on. Everyone is connected with eachother. Everyone except BELLTONE, that is. BELLTONE is a private company that makes one brand…….maybe one brand that has a lower model, a medium model, and a higher priced model. Other than that, they offer no other. Now, all of those other companies out there……they carry different BRANDS, showing me that they are tied into eachother, making money with eachother, because waaaaaay up at the very top of this, one giant company owns all of those smaller hearing aid companies. And BELLTONE is all on its own while the Big Boys just grind away at BELLTONE……..until one day they run that very old company out of business.

    Great video! I just picked up a new pair of Phonak Virto Titanium M70 devices and I do not like them and I am going to return them ASAP as Phonak gives you 60 days to try these.
    The most significant issue I have is the severe occlusion as it sounds like I am speaking in a barrel. The Vent hole looks nothing like the device in this video as the vent hole on my devices is smaller that the speaker port hole.
    Then the device from time to time keep adjusting themselves increasing volume then back to neutral.
    Also, when I am chewing it is very loud to myself and the last, these appear to be CIC and not IIC like my Starkey Sound Lens S IIC series I am replacing as these are over 5 years old.
    Maybe because these M70's are too big.
    As I have very small ear canals the M70's seem to be too far away from my ear drum and the vent is way to small.
    Anyone having the same issues with their Phonak M7o or M90 devices?
    Thanks and keep these great videos coming.

Every year check fitting and have hearing Aids professional cleaning out your hearing Aids . Or every 2 years . And don't forget about hearing Aids microphone filters needs to be replaced monthly . It did take some getting used to, similar to getting accustomed to contact lenses.

    Good video on custom hearing aids. In your experience is there one manufacturer that seems to provide better feedback management that another? I wear high power Resound and was wearing high power Starkey prior and i seem to get better feedback control with Starkey so wondering what your experience has been with feedback control and manufacturer. And would a full shell custom help with feedback better than a half shell custom?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  3 года назад +1

      Full shells generally do a better job of preventing feedback because of less leakage of sound. You have to be careful with feedback management systems because sometimes they can reduce amplification levels that ultimately reduce your benefit. I generally recommend fixing the physical fit of the device then use feedback management to help. When it comes to best devices from a feedback standpoint, each brand does pretty good, so I suspect it is a leakage issue.

      @DrCliffAuD  3 года назад +1

      Phonak has a feature called Auto-REM, however, it still requires that you are hooked up to the external REM equipment. Did she actually place tubes inside of your ear canal and have the system match your prescriptive targets with the amplification levels. This would have likely taken at least 5-10 minutes. If it was the 30 second Feedback Manager that just plays a few beeps and whistles in each ear, then that is NOT REM.
