I don't have a brand preference. I'd generally avoid buying the cheapest thing out there, a mid range product will do. Paying top price for OE quality parts is imho a waste of money on an old car as it's highly unlikely that the car will last another 150k miles.
I need to replace the Axle on passenger front side. I am wondering if the ball bearing in the outer cv joint is inside the joint or in the wheel bearing? The Ball Bearing that i saw behind the plastic protector thing, was just crushed, and a ball fell out when i opened it. Do i need to replace the Wheel Bearing or just the Axle+Outer CV joint? I have only ordered the Axle+Inner+Outer CV Joint.
The bearing in the CV joint is part of the CV joint under the rubber boot. The wheel bearing in this video is a separate component on which the entire hub and wheels turn. You can replace the cv axle separately, just make sure you use the same torque-down procedure as shown here. I have a separate video on replacing the cv axle on my channel. ruclips.net/video/uAWDG1dr58w/видео.html
Doing rear side them m12 bolts are no joke tried everything are the bolts threaded through hub and wheel bearing or do they slide through the hub and thread just into the bearing ?
I'm sure it's possible provided you have a shop with a hydraulic press and you manage to track down the exact model of bearings used. From a car repair standpoint the part is replaced as a unit and as such is easily doable at home.
@@MotoringCultureMagazine thx for the answer. I will change it at my mechanic. I was considering costs when I said I want to change only the bearings not the entire unit.
There is. When you torque it down with that much force the neck of the bolt stretches a certain amount. Doing that repeatedly and the bolt will fail, most likely in a high speed corner with the weight of the car on that wheel. Even if it doesn't snap it will loose it's original tensile strength and your bearings will wear out very quickly.
I have noticed Your responses are very very detailed and informative and extremely accurate. I applaud you sir. While I’m commenting, what’s the size socket for removing the wheel hub?
It took me a good two hours but I'm not a mechanic. A professional could probably do it in one hour. They will charge you what ever they can get away with but it should be their hourly rate x 1.
My audi seems to be slightly different. I only have 3 bolts for the wheel bearing and I can't get the drive shaft out of the way in order to get to the bolts. I'm stuck :(
Only ment to change wheel with and you have to be realy careful when putting it down making sure its as steady as possible, but yea they are no good, i have in car for emergency in chase i neeed to plug wheel, but home you should have a garage jack its much safer and better, also if possible have to things that you put under to support in chase jack fails dont remember what its called but be carefoul and keep doing it self much money saved.=)
That jack almost made the car fall on me on the side of the road when I had a blowout on the freeway. That jack is garbage, only use in an extreme emergency
I took my car to a workshop and they were going to charge me $900 for installing 4 of those and an cv axle, thank you brother, you saved me $900
you saved me money going to expensive garages thankyou this 8P A3 video is helpfull.😉
11 minutes in video 4 hours for me those 4 fkn m12 was so tight that I almost broke one of them, but good video !!
Last time I did this I applied copper anti seize to all of the bolts, made it much easier this time
Fantastic video👍
Nice video!! Thanks for sharing 👍👍
From what i see on the video you managed to take it out without unbolting the rocker arm right?
You don't have to touch any of the suspension arms.
Pullin up on that axle bolt is a GREAT way to pinch a disc in your spine, etc. Be careful when exerting that amount of force!
Superb video. Thank you.
Good informative video thanks for sharing
Very good tutorial. Can you, please, tell us where to find the indicated torques for each bearing?
In the car's repair manual.

what brand do you prefer for wheel bearing?!

@@MotoringCultureMagazine Alright! Thank you for the quick response!

As will just cut flange side then wack bolts back through
Hello and good job! It is possible to change only the bearing itself? So far I found on the Internet only the hub unit

My kit didnt come with new hub bolt is there a certain reason on why u cant use the old one?

How much will labour cost of done in garage?
very good job
Seems easy, thank u
what year is this car
2005
How long should a mechanic take and how much will it cost you think

@@MotoringCultureMagazine2 hours? This video shows you doing it in 11 minutes lol
If you drive on road salt I think this is more difficult.

Undo the three bolts that hold the lower ball joint, then you can take the end of the drive shaft out completely.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try that when I get back to it
7:13 25nm doesn’t seem that tight! Other videos are closer to 75nm plus 90 degrees!!!
@Stillbusy105 Good catch, 75nm is the correct value. I misspoke in the voiceover.
Tip Of The Year ... DONT EVER USE THE Audi SUICIDE JACK , it will fall over ... mine did it last week and knackered my seal
