This game series were my therapy game, my comfort zone, and now, that was taken away from me 💔 But still, thanks, Mr. Cocker for clarifying everything.

I would like to see the characters back at the Olympics, I think the children would love it. There was not much kids-oriented content in Paris, which in my opinion should be changed. As for Super Mario or Sonic - they're both inspiring!

I think Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Iizuka should create Mario and Sonic: Worlds of Danger and Ian Flynn and some Super Mario and Sonic writers should its story writers. And the musicals should be Koji Kondo and Jun Senoue.
One problem with this is that Shigeru Miyamoto isn't really making games much anymore. He's in an overseeing role at Nintendo now. Now, Takashi Iizuka, however, I'm not necessarily sure as to what his role at Sega is.
We did not know that the Tokyo 2020 edition was the last… but what I ended up noticing, let’s say that Mario and Sonic arrived home at this point. Pity we didn’t get the Paris or LA edition due to… ahem, circumstances… but then again, I’d rather an official “Phryge Simulator” (explore Paris and the venues as the iconic hat mascot… parkour, hop, skip, even fly!) than stale NFT projects… the saltiness and disappointment feels palpable, but to those who grew up on the games, may you be blessed by the memories.
If the Olympic committee wanted more money they could just did DLC for another game and online servers maybe people wasn't mind paying for a pass or something like that because the games was good and it would make good competition online too

I guess everyone in the world (europe, America and Asia) were shocked that there won't be Mario And Sonic at the Paris Olympics Games on Nintendo SWITCH. This really sucks and so unfair because I was looking hoping for a new game since Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics Games was the last to be released back in 2020.
Man i miss this franchise, used to play london 2012 all the time on my 3ds but i sadly lost the game, i hope IOC reconciders giving sega the rights to make new games or port the older titles on switch

To be fair I’m hardly surprised that the M&S Olympic Series is no more. The following sequels from Beijing 2008 had so much potential that was sadly thrown to the wayside. Personally, my biggest grudge against the games is the character rosters. I mean, yes, Vancouver 2010 added four more new characters, Metal Sonic being my favourite, but then you had the Rivals, (King Boo, Omega, Dry Bones, Jet, etc.) consisting of other favourite characters. The potential was there to make them all playable characters, which at the time I wanted and still wanted. But most unfortunately they remained unplayable for the whole game. I can still remember being 10 years old in 2009 and getting that in-game email saying "Be a Rival!". I can still recall feeling that exciting thrill reading that email’s title; and my dreams being shattered when I found out it’s about your Miis dressing up as them. This, to me, was basically perceived as an obscenity. Instead of giving players the chance to unlock extra playable characters that you won against, like, imao, a better quality video game would, instead you had to play a bootleg knock-off of said character in the form of a Mii wearing a costume. London 2012 is my favourite in the series. Mainly because Rival matches against those beloved exclusive characters have the most replayability. Of course you still couldn’t play as the Rivals there, which was hard. Sochi 2014 was just as bad for me. Seeing the improved VS screen with the living, breathing characters on screen instead of the mere flat images of them certainly didn’t help matters. Then Rio 2016 comes around and the very first trailer looks like that the Rivals are finally going to be playable. Which is good. Then the game releases and you realise not only has the game changed too much from the previous games, but the Rivals are playable only on specific events. To this day this still baffles me. I mean the usual cast of 20 main characters are playable on all the other events, so why not the Rivals too?! These are video games! Take advantage of the limitless possibilities! If that wasn’t bad enough, Rio 2016 doesn’t include all the Rivals of the previous games. That I will admit was quite a disappointing bombshell for me. Tokyo 2020 was the game that made me lose faith in the whole series. It was meant to be the biggest game in the whole series. Japan is the home of both Nintendo and SEGA. It would literally take effort to mess this up… Shockingly, they actually did just that, and literally took the effort to mess it up! They kept all of the problems Rio 2016 had, and even had a bizarre story about Mario and Sonic reverting to 8-bit pixelation to compete in the Tokyo 1962 Olympics. It felt completely needless. And anyway, computers and video games weren’t even around in 1962 so what exactly was the point of that plot line? I’ve always told myself that the M&S Olympic Series was nothing more but a manipulation by SEGA to capitalise on the Olympic Games. The absence of Peyongchang 2018 Winter Games is both a blessing and a curse to me. But hearing how the series has now been discontinued for the pursuit of NFTs just speaks volumes to me. They cared more about money than magic and memories. I see this as a fitting end to a game series that I have such a huge love/hate relationship towards. It’s a big shame too because I feel consumers saw way more potential for the series than the corporations did. We really need more mods for the Mario and Sonic Olympic Wii games…
@@k.xultimojo65 for me rio 2016 3ds was alright. i was most annoyed because you can only play certan charaters on certan events aswell as unlocking the extra charaters (some of them were meh) and the true ending was tedious, if you missed just 1 day you had to restart the story thankfuly if you beat the story you can skip to the end of the events
Is the discontinuation at the fault of SEGA or the holders of olympic licenses? Sometimes people have good ideas that deserved to be capitalized on and sometimes its pure greed, as someone who hasn’t played M&S at the Olympic games since the first one this just may be the typical “games get worse over the years” type of thing.
The IOC have made a rubbish choice this time around only doing a freemium title for mobile. Really cheapens the franchise and isn’t a game you’ll go back to in a few years. Whereas the Mario/Sonic games will always be playable. It wouldn’t surprise me if down the road they come back…

The thing I loved about Mario & Sonic games were their uniqueness in each entry, my favorite one is Rio 2016, such a beautiful soundtrack and feeling.

Mario And Sonic got onto BBC news!? Hell yeah!
I guess everyone in the world (europe, America and Asia) were shocked that there won't be Mario And Sonic at the Paris Olympics Games on Nintendo SWITCH. This really sucks and so unfair because I was looking hoping for a new game since Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics Games was the last to be released back in 2020.
This franchise really embodies the Olympic spirit of international collaboration.

To be fair I’m hardly surprised that the M&S Olympic Series is no more.
The following sequels from Beijing 2008 had so much potential that was sadly thrown to the wayside. Personally, my biggest grudge against the games is the character rosters. I mean, yes, Vancouver 2010 added four more new characters, Metal Sonic being my favourite, but then you had the Rivals, (King Boo, Omega, Dry Bones, Jet, etc.) consisting of other favourite characters.
The potential was there to make them all playable characters, which at the time I wanted and still wanted. But most unfortunately they remained unplayable for the whole game.
I can still remember being 10 years old in 2009 and getting that in-game email saying "Be a Rival!". I can still recall feeling that exciting thrill reading that email’s title; and my dreams being shattered when I found out it’s about your Miis dressing up as them.
This, to me, was basically perceived as an obscenity. Instead of giving players the chance to unlock extra playable characters that you won against, like, imao, a better quality video game would, instead you had to play a bootleg knock-off of said character in the form of a Mii wearing a costume.
London 2012 is my favourite in the series. Mainly because Rival matches against those beloved exclusive characters have the most replayability. Of course you still couldn’t play as the Rivals there, which was hard. Sochi 2014 was just as bad for me. Seeing the improved VS screen with the living, breathing characters on screen instead of the mere flat images of them certainly didn’t help matters.
Then Rio 2016 comes around and the very first trailer looks like that the Rivals are finally going to be playable. Which is good. Then the game releases and you realise not only has the game changed too much from the previous games, but the Rivals are playable only on specific events.
To this day this still baffles me. I mean the usual cast of 20 main characters are playable on all the other events, so why not the Rivals too?!
These are video games! Take advantage of the limitless possibilities!
If that wasn’t bad enough, Rio 2016 doesn’t include all the Rivals of the previous games. That I will admit was quite a disappointing bombshell for me.
Tokyo 2020 was the game that made me lose faith in the whole series. It was meant to be the biggest game in the whole series. Japan is the home of both Nintendo and SEGA. It would literally take effort to mess this up… Shockingly, they actually did just that, and literally took the effort to mess it up!
They kept all of the problems Rio 2016 had, and even had a bizarre story about Mario and Sonic reverting to 8-bit pixelation to compete in the Tokyo 1962 Olympics.
It felt completely needless. And anyway, computers and video games weren’t even around in 1962 so what exactly was the point of that plot line?
I’ve always told myself that the M&S Olympic Series was nothing more but a manipulation by SEGA to capitalise on the Olympic Games. The absence of Peyongchang 2018 Winter Games is both a blessing and a curse to me. But hearing how the series has now been discontinued for the pursuit of NFTs just speaks volumes to me.
They cared more about money than magic and memories. I see this as a fitting end to a game series that I have such a huge love/hate relationship towards.
It’s a big shame too because I feel consumers saw way more potential for the series than the corporations did.
We really need more mods for the Mario and Sonic Olympic Wii games…
@@k.xultimojo65 for me rio 2016 3ds was alright. i was most annoyed because you can only play certan charaters on certan events aswell as unlocking the extra charaters (some of them were meh) and the true ending was tedious, if you missed just 1 day you had to restart the story thankfuly if you beat the story you can skip to the end of the events
Is the discontinuation at the fault of SEGA or the holders of olympic licenses? Sometimes people have good ideas that deserved to be capitalized on and sometimes its pure greed, as someone who hasn’t played M&S at the Olympic games since the first one this just may be the typical “games get worse over the years” type of thing.
The gameplay was fine in 2016 and 2020, the retro games are great in 2020

The IOC have made a rubbish choice this time around only doing a freemium title for mobile. Really cheapens the franchise and isn’t a game you’ll go back to in a few years. Whereas the Mario/Sonic games will always be playable.
It wouldn’t surprise me if down the road they come back…
