Oh god. I was watching this for a little bit, and then I started to read the comments below and ... I hadn't heard about Joey. The greatest B3 player of our time, 2nd only to Jimmy. Tremendous loss, one of the great masters is gone. I was the keyboardist at the famous Jilly's on Rush Street (Chi) for 12 years. One night, Joey came in and sat right in front of me. The gig called for me to use a drum machine -- ugh -- so what happen next was Joey started jamming with me by playing the drum machine manually with both hands. I couldn't believe what was happening! We laughed and jammed for at least 20 minutes and of course, it sounded like I had Jack DeJohnette behind me, that's how good he was on that damn drum machine. The club was packed but nobody realized what was happening, the idiots didn't even know who he was. Unforgettable moment for me

@@jimjudygardner2916 I don't know how I could be more complementary. Having a bad day, are we? Try to relax, Joey D would be the first to tell you Jimmy is number 1. Yes, Joey took it to new levels. Yes, Joey is more advanced harmonically, can do more things. I get it. But Jimmy established the ground on which Joey walked. No Jimmy, no Joey. It's how musicians work, they build on the legacy of the previous. I don't know how you don't know that, and you're kind of being a jerk. I'm here to honor Joey D, not fight with some angry guy. Show some respect

Joey was one of a kind, I don’t think there’s anyone alive that plays the B3 with that kind of mastery. And what a kind soul not to chew out that piano player for stepping on his toes, lol!

Same here. As a huge fan of the bluesy and funky sound in bebop and hardbop, it's a shame to have missed out on an incredible player during his lifetime. Especially one who died young enough to still have more music to play for the world.

The jazz industry has never been happy with Hammond organ. Smith, McGriff, McDuff, Groove Holmes managed to get promo, but Johnny "Hammond" Smith, Winston Walls, Ed Birdsong, the list goes on. Some great talent. Ask Pete Fallico, the promoter of promoters for all thing B3.
