Hi Mathew, that a breath holding moment!! You did it, and the loss of the clay pot served it's purpose for 4 years, so that was not a great big financial loss. The hanging wooden structure is well suited for the Cattleya, I do hope her flowers will be the most beautiful flowers ever. So soul rewarding to see plants do well. Then again, they only thrive when left in peace with lots of love. Enjoyed the video looking forward to the blooming stage/day. Have a great day. Kind regards.
Thank you for recommending this video! Very helpful. I will be off to clean my many terracotta pots and gradually get all of my orchids in terracotta :)
😊wow, great stuff. I'm waiting for mine to finish up with flowering, and then it needs a repot as well. I was wondering how I was going to attempt it cos its roots are sll on the outside of the pot. So I'm going to give it a go after soaking. Thanks for sharing 😊
I enjoyed watching as always! I do have a question though: what is the orange blooming trumpet shaped flower behind you? Not an orchid, I am guessing. Fuzzy leaves...could it be a member of the Gesnariad family? Gesneriads were my first love.
I have a clay pot covered in roots. Someone told me to break up the pot like you did, but not necessarily have to clean out the pieces or the whole thing. Just smash up some of it and then replant in a larger clay pot. My problem is there are so many roots I think I would have to smash them to shatter the pot. What do you think about just placing the whole thing as is into a larger pot?
Go for it! The plant will make the best of it and probably thrive! I'd just make sure the medium in the new pot was quite large bark so the roots were still very aerated.
I would have broken up that old root ball, rather than leave that somewhat solid mass in the middle of the pot, since outside the root ball will dry quicker then the center now. But, everyone has different methods, which makes it fun (and different growing conditions!).
Hi Mathew I just got a cattleya mambo golden boy. But I can't find that much info about care/condition on these lovely flowers..😢 Maybe you have some God advice 🙏🙏
Not really! It's a complex hybrid so I'd give it basic Cattleya care and see what happens - might well be cold tolerant though with some of its ancestry - good luck!
I really needed this video today. Awesome, Matthew! In a previous video, you mentioned two sites to research the history of individual orchids. Could you remind me of what they are? TYIA!!😊🪴🥰
“Grows like the clappers”, such an Aussie saying . Love it!
