- The Nubra Valley lies to the north of Leh and can be most easily accessed via the Kardung La mountain pass. Locked between the Ladakh range and the higher Karakoram range - Nubra Valley offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the region.
Turtuk has an epic story to tell. Nestled in the Karakoram range, this village was claimed by PAKISTAN after the British ended the rule in the 1947 Indo-Pakistan war. It remained like that for the next 24 years till 1971, when India gained control of the village again. It now sits by the border of Gilgit-Baltistan, wherein the villagers were granted permanent Indian citizenship.
#ladakh Tourism history in Turtuk is fairly recent. The village was opened to tourists only in 2010, making it one of the newest destinations to explore in Ladakh. Since its opening to the public, travelers from around the globe have been enchanted by its untouched beauty and tranquil lifestyle.
Visitors are drawn to Turtuk for its serenity, undisturbed landscape, and the opportunity to experience the unique Balti culture. Warm and welcoming, the locals of Turtuk are known for their hospitality, adding to the charm of this remote village.
