That's a really interesting position to explore! Combining interpretivism with critical realism can give your research a nuanced perspective - balancing the subjective with structural insights. Wishing you all the best as you refine your approach!
Sure! I have a video coming in a few weeks all about pragmatism. In the meantime, you may want to check out my course, Paradigms for Beginners, which covers pragmatism and four other paradigms. Here is the link: elizabeth-s-school-3982.thinkific.com/courses/paradigms
Thanks! Where would post-positivism fit in here? I find the range of paradigms and the overlap in them quite confusing. The complexity of qual research that seeks to identify patterns and themes related to theory, whilst recognising individual experiences of the thing I am studying, seems to complicate my sense of which paradigm is most appropriate for my research.
Great question! Post-positivism is often seen as a bridge between positivism and interpretivism. It recognises that even though we can study the world in an objective way, our understanding is always somewhat imperfect and influenced by our existing ideas and theories, which is a step away from the more strict approach of traditional positivism. It’s understandable to feel confused with the overlap between paradigms-research is complex, and paradigms are not always neatly separated. Ultimately, the choice of paradigm should align with your research questions and how you view the nature of reality and knowledge. Remember to take your time in finding the right fit! If you're looking for more detailed guidance, I highly recommend the book, "Social Research: Paradigms in Action" by Norman Blaikie and Jan Priest -it offers a clear overview of different research paradigms and might help clarify some of the complexities you're facing.
The presentation is so helpful.
Glad you think so! Thanks so much for your comment!
Your video is interesting and entertaining. Definitely learned a lot, doc
Glad to hear it! Thank you for watching!
thanks alot Doc very valuable data
You’re very welcome! ☺️ Let me know if you have any questions! 🤓
So useful....thank you....❤
You are so welcome!
I could have done with this back in May when I was writing my final assignment. Hopefully I got it right.
Thank you! I wish I would have made the video earlier too! :-)
I am an interpretivist veering towards critical realism.

The critical realist paradigm is new to me, I'm quite drawn to it.
Thanks for your comment! Critical realism is fascinating, I like how it combines lived experience with social context.
Ciuld you please say more about pragmatism as a paradigm in mixed methods

Thanks for the suggestion!
Could it be feminist research paradigm?
Yes, absolutely! Feminism can indeed be regarded as a research paradigm.
