I am a 75 year old (today is actually my 75th birthday) American living in Kherson throughout the war - the initial battle for the city, military occupation, liberation and the subsequent artillery shelling from the left bank. This video is accurate and even understated in my experience. And I don't just stay in my apartment. I walk throughout the city and see what is going on, including the demonstrations at the beginning of the occupation. Most people have left the city and all for good reasons such as family safety, military service, humanitarian aid, etc. About 20% of us have, after careful consideration, decided to stay. Why do we stay? That is a good question. I can only answer for myself but I am not going to tell you. As they said in the old Harley Davidson commercial, "If I have to explain, then you won't understand". Maybe it is a generational thing. Oh, and by the way, send more HIMARS, quickly.

@@antispindr8613 Everyone has their own interests at stake - as in sitting on the fence doesn't work when your homeland is under attack or there is a threat to your national interests. I have Russian friends who follow the line that Nato is encroaching on Russian borders. Government interests and interests of the governed don't always intersect as the government works in its own interests. One thing that doesn't change is the level of human suffering due to decisions made by those in power. Yes, US carpet bombing Vietname was wrong. Yes, Russia indescriminately attacking ukrainian civilian districts is wrong. In conflict today, western governments would be expected to use precision munitions and be accountable in a court of law for any civilian casualties accepting there will be some collateral damage. However, Russia is showing no such restraint. That is what I find unacceptable verging on barbaric.
While under huge pressure to retract, did not Amnesty stand by its' report that the Ukrainian Army was using civilian buildings as fire bases? If attacked from such positions, might not most armies take out the whole building?

thank you so much for telling our story! it brought me into tears a few time, seeing all of this and recalling the things i went through myself, though they weren't us severe as the ones people of Kherson go through. i am beyond proud of them, of how they met the russian invaders with resistance, how continued to resist throughout russian occupation, and how they try to live and help each other out now under constant shelling of russians. our people are strong-willed, but we woudln't be able to fight back for so long without your help. the help of journalists, ordinary people who spread information on social media and participate demonstrations, governments who help us with weapons and humanitarian aids. we are grateful for your support! 💙💛

During the Soviet era, Kherson was a popular place for Soviet pensioners to retire to because of its relatively mild climate - by Soviet standards - and nice location (a sort of Soviet Miami, if you will). Seeing what happened to this city now, it seems so ironic. Kherson went from being a place where the elderly moved to in order to live out their remaining years before they died to a place most people have fled from to keep from dying. Putin and the Russian army have much blood on their hands.

I compared Ukraine to an under dog boxer who has an opponent way bigger than him and more popular and most people say won't last a round or two. But to the surprise of everyone after beaten and knocked down few times but he still manage to beat the count and go up for another beating but didn't give up even his coach didn't throw the towel yet. At the end he fights back and knock the opponent out for his win. The Russian Army(not people) and Putin are as bad and cruel as the German and Japanese s o ldiers during second worl war. As a US citizen I think we need to decide what is our goal. What I mean is that either we want Ukraine to win or lose. If we want them to win then we need to start training them on F-16s, this should have been done last year around July to get them ready for the spring of this year. We show weakness when we decide to give them something only after Ukraine shows it needs it. They wanted a No fly zone over Ukraine. Then we should have trained them to fly F-16s for them to do it themselves. Also even if they are US or European weapons as soon as Russia started bombing civilians we should have told them here are 500 missiles with 300 - 500 miles range hit their power plants, water plants and military facilities.
And if we REALLY wish to escalate this bloody conflict, so that it spreads our of control, why not supply the Ukraine with battlefield nuclear weapons? Might not all the world-be Rambos and latter-day Dr Strangeloves agree?

Any errors of judgement can't be reversed and makes it riskier for Ukrainian resistance and spies infiltrating Russian lines. The Ukrainians are the braveriest people in the world
Youll never have war without civilian casualties. They could have said the same thing about the US in Iraq or Afghanistan. Any US sodlier will tell you that civilian casualties are unavoidable. All you can do is try to limit them.
And when you combine that with the fact that some of the civilians are fighting back, it becomes hard to distinguish the enemy. America has already learned this lesson. It appears that Russia has not.
