For its size, it did the job and those who see it was impressed by it. If you are a DJ who wants a powerful yet portable controller as backup or primary for your events, the DDJ 800 is the one you should get. Hey Crossfader, love the video bro! Question: Is the USB port also an input or just to connect to the computer? I want to setup an iRig. So, from what I understand if the question is a no, I assume the signal flow would be: Computer to Focusrite, Focusrite outputs to DDJ 800, DDJ 800 outputs to iRig, iRig outputs to the amp, then amp to speakers. Yes, no? Appreciate the help 🤙
The USB is just a computer connection port and needs to be directly connected. You'd need your path to be Computer to 800, 800 to iRig, iRig to Amp/Speakers. Alternatively you could connect the iRig to the RCA outputs of the 800 and the Amp/Speakers to the XLR's! Hope this helps!
Great review! I was considering upgrading to this controller when I heard it was announced but then found out some of the limitations you mentioned with it and that would mean another upgrade down the road. So, I'm leaning more towards just going for the DDJ-1000 as it will have the 4-channels and won't have the limitations that are present in the DDJ-800
You guys mentioned the fader isn't as good for scratching as the one on the DDJ-1000. But I've seen people scratch on it and it seems pretty damn good. Much better than the DDJ-SX I have... any additional thoughts for scratching? Thanks guys!

@crossfader : I don’t understand the problem you had on the DVS part. The DVS worked perfectly for me ( I test with Rekordbox DJ record or Phase ). And did you see that you can apply some PAD FX on a regular turntable/cd input ?
Like we said we may be just doing something wrong but it didn’t respond how we expected. Set it up exactly the same as normal with DVS. We will have to continue testing. Did you have it on relative mode?
If Pioneer make a DDJ 450 (400 upgrade) like RB and RR. It's gonna be the best budget DJ Controller. The 800 is absolutely not worth it. A litte money from the 1000 for what? Speakers or headphones?
Thanks for the review.. when this dropped I was hella curious.. now I'm stoked being a ddj-rb owner.. looks like a natural progression to the 800.. instead of going to the holy grail of the 1000
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you I know both equipments are different and what is the best for my experience thank you . and great video
From new buyer perspective im kinda disappointed it is more like ddj 1000 there is still gap with nothing between 400 and 1000 and why i have to have laptop connected to use effects on my turntables, i had high hopes for that one imho Pioneer missing the target audience ,someone who potentially looking after ddj400 do not need LCD on jogs ,missed opportunity. i may buy something else now. Nice review.
@@PunchineloPow yes, you can only use the EQ, Faders, and trim, it's pointless, but I guess you could just keep a laptop plugged in, it's just an inconvenience, i could have seen this selling well if the effects were built in, but that's Pioneer for you

Hi there. I’ve not long started and have been using a WeGo4 to practise but wanted to upgrade to something with more features. I’ve been looking at the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-SR2. What you recommend? Bearing in mind I have not used serato or rekordbox yet.
Would you recommend the ddj 800 for a beginner or is it to much to handle for the first dj controller. Been looking at the ddj flx6GT for beginner but the dj800 is about $200 more... thanks
Good review!! How did they mess up that DVS bit? Rather pointless if it doesn't work! Overall good controller, but I think after watching this and other reviews, I'd rather save up and get the DDJ-1000
This looks almost awesome... All controls well placed, Headphone Mix/Level on face panel (hate when those are on the front "tucked" away. Long throw Pitch Faders, nice looking jog wheels (the brushed metal wheels look stupid like something out of Fast and Furious and should be wearing a tom hardy shirt or some shit. Could care less about the performance pads though, would much rather prefer needle search strips on the top. Wish they would stop using red for all the buttons though, shit is like a warning sign and they all take too much priority when quickly scanning the controller in dim lighting. Lighter blue, or grey would be nicer.
I’ve been using a DDJ WeGO 4 as a beginner for quite a while now and I feel that I’m ready to make the next step up. Would you recommend the DDJ 400 first or jump straight on to the DDJ 800?
Hi, I want to start mixing but I don't know if I should get the Pioneer DJ DDJ-800 or the Native Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3? It would be my first DJ console and in the future I'd like to play in the clubs and events. What would you recommend ?
I was deciding between the two and picked a used 800 in good condition simply because Traktor software is reportedly (mainly via various Reddit chats) isn’t as good at analyzing non-electronic music as well hearing rumors the company may not be as invested in the software as Pioneer with Rekordbox. My two cents , best of luck with it :)
What do you think? Is this controller still a good choice? The DDJ FLX6-GT is missing a few features and the DDJ-FLX10 is too expensive, so there's not really much choice given that Pioneer hasn't updated this product.
I own still the DDJ 1000 , even when there's already a ''Upgrade'' Version called FLX10 .. But in Terms of using the new Stem Functions i just remap some unused Knobs and Pad Mode for having that new ''FLX10'' Features ... But in all other Terms like the standalone Mixer , Color Fx , etc i highly recomend to get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 over the DDJ 800 with his negative Limitations , If the FLX 10 is too expensive for you . ( Even if this Unit have some nice upgraded Features that i miss a bit on my DDJ 1000 to be honest ( of course they could add this little Things with a Firmware Update on the DDJ 1000 , such as showing the 3 Band Waveform on the JOG Display or showing the Artwork etc I'm sure they could add that still to the DDJ-1000 with a FW Updfate but as the DDJ -1000 is already a Dino Controler for Pioneer i've lost my hope for that . But anyway , there are also a bunch of Features that Pioneer still not apply on the new FLX 10 which should fit more in the new Pioneer Club Standard Corner ,, such as a Sound Coler Parameter Knob but they add 6 CFX now on the FLX 10 but still no Parameter Knob 🤦♂🙄 for me thats an Essential Software Thing which should be a solid Control Feature on a Rekordbox Essential Midi Controller Unit or it should be possible to just midi map that Knob BUT NO you just can't do that what a shame ... , So No background lighting SHIFT Button same fail as on the DDJ 1000, 800, 400 etc .. very unpracticeable at dark environments 🤦♂, No Pitch Fader 0 % green Light , .etc etc ... So try too get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 instead :)
when should i upgrade from ddj flx4 to ddj 800? i feel like ive learnt everything there is on the flx4 but i can defenetly still improve my dj mechanincs. but when should i upgrade to a ddj 800? is there a standard? like 1 or 2 or 3 years with flx4 before upgrading?
Love everything about this controller apart from the jog wheel digital display. Such a shame Pioneer haven't given you the option to turn the display off.
Brother, I want to do the online course but I need to buy all the kit first, can you tell me what I’ll need.. so the mixer itself, a laptop.. headphones.. what else do I need my mate? Been wanting to do this for years! 👊🏽💥
I'm on the 400. Am really used to the beat loop function on the 2nd pad. Easy access. Now its a shift-pad function? its the MAIN thing I use for club DJing. For looping the end of tracks to give me plenty of mixing time. 32 beat loops. If I use the loop on and off buttons up top they stop flashing after 1 bar. This is SHIT. Far out, I am upgrading but am now thinking of non-pioneer options.
Hey man great video. I recently just got my ddj 800 but no animations appear on my jog wheel and i cant seem to see how to fix that in the settings. If anyone knows i would appreciate it
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
Seeing Pioneer decided to produce a DDJ-1000SRT for Serato why do they not produce a DDJ-800 for Serato, I have nothing against the Rekordbox software but having used Serato for some time and being comfortable with it, a Serato DDJ-800 would be a sharp move for Pioneer as it would increase the sales of the 800 dramatically for those Serato users that, like me do not need the 4 channels on the 1000SRT, I would by a DDJ-800SRT tomorrow.
Hmmmm In my opinion it kinda depends on how important the Club layout is to you, because the DDJ 800 defenitely got a more Club like Layout. But with the DDJ 800 you loose some Features of the RR like the Sequencer for example... Of course you get some more new Features like CFX all the Key Shifting and Syncing things and the Displays in the Jogs. But the most important part is the Price. Espacially if you got your RR last month I think the DDJ 800 is just to expensive. My Recommendation would be to use the RR and if you get that good that you have to be able to use the CFX and 4 Decks for example, buy the DDJ 1000. Thats the Gear I use and its pretty good. Then you got CFX, 4 Decks, Displays in the Jogs, the Magvel Fader and things like that. Just save the Money for the DDJ 800 and buy a DDJ 1000 later if you need more features. I hope I helped you with that. If you got some more questions just text me via Instagram ( @lumitrn )
Hi. I have 1 question, I have ddj 400 right now. As I take it for gigs I have to attach a external mixer, as alone it dont give that good output.. So if I buy ddj 800 do I have to attach external mixer????
Being a Serato user I would like to buy a DDJ-800 but do not know much about Rekordbox, can you tell me if Rekordbox is as easy to use as Serato and does it have as good features.
maybe the only differentiator maybe the audio interface. But using a notebook for music you gernerally are already equiped with an high level audio interface.
Can I plug in a cdj or a keyboard/ turntables, etc in channel 1 for example and then playing music on deck 1 and the music from the cdj is still coming thru?
Pioneer screwed up in pricing not on the DDJ 800 but on the DDJ 1000. The 1000 should be priced at around $1500. The display screens and full size jogs and it being a club set up in a controller would have warranted that price. The 1000 is a bargain at $1200. If there wasn't a 1000, the 800 would be priced right but in comparison, its over priced now. For everyone complaining about it not being Serato compatible and not wanting to switch, RB is not that much of a jump and most that made that move will tell you that RB is now superior to Serato. I came from Traktor to RB when I got the 1000, much bigger difference. The layout and the jogs was enough for me to make the switch and there will always be a learning curve but trust me after owning the DDJ 1000 for a year it was worth it.
So you are saying that they should have overpriced the 1000 just like 800? These things are not that expensive to make but it's expensive because the market is small.
@@aryanankur9897 Over priced according to who? Companies are in the business to make a profit. Its not just about what it cost to make but what the product does which adds value to the retail price. Everything cost a fraction to build compared to retail price especially anything in electronics. The DDJ 1000 was a first of its kind from Pioneer. It is essentially a 2000nxs setup in a controller for less than a 1/3 of the price. No other controller has full size mechanical jogs. Until the 800 no other controller had the jog displays with all the info. No other controller has a 900nxs2 type setup. It blows away every other DJ controller because it doesn't feel like a controller. It was underpriced in the hope that DJs would make the switch from Serato or Traktor to Rekordbox. The DDJ 800 is overpriced in comparison to the price of the 1000.
I don't get all the hate on this one We all don't want (or need) 4 channels or DVS Although I agree with the caveats like the lack of full effects on microphone And this is clearly overpriced, a $600-$700 tag would be a winner, but unfortunately Pioneer is still the industry standard and they can do that. Hope to see more response from competitors
Why the hate? Because this product is clearly an after thought not a planned product. It's an attempt to make people see a cheaper 1000 but they didn't properly plan an association for the two products so now they have an awkward feature set with dysfunctional pricing. Pioneer has been making controller too long to make a mistake like this. They can't raise the price of the 1000 so the only real option is to lower the 800 but that's not gonna happen so they are stuck trying to ride a bad wave.
Has anyone figured a way to fully get DVS working fully? This would make or break getting a DDJ800 for me as I already have turntables - be nice to incorporate them in a controller set up!

Computer to Focusrite, Focusrite outputs to DDJ 800, DDJ 800 outputs to iRig, iRig outputs to the amp, then amp to speakers.
Kevin Waters yeah it really sucks that you can’t use the mixer effects in stand alone without s laptop
You guys mentioned the fader isn't as good for scratching as the one on the DDJ-1000. But I've seen people scratch on it and it seems pretty damn good. Much better than the DDJ-SX I have... any additional thoughts for scratching? Thanks guys!
I just ordered this. I'm so excited!
How is it?
@@DJ-Dorian It's awesome. I upgraded from the hercules inpulse 300 after learning the basics of being a DJ. I just uploaded a mix to my channel with the DDJ-800, check it out!
@@blank-ages that what I’m doing upgrading from a Hercules 300. It’s arriving next week
awesome demonstration of the controller and great introduction to Rekordbox! thanks man!
This controller has been amazing, it fits very well in between two turntables, jog wheels feel great!
what is your recomendation... thsi one DDj-800 or ddj-SX2 ? thanks! great video!
Did u ever get the ddj800 working properly with dvs as it should with all the functions?.
Great video!!! I was wondering ....when I open Sample mode (on either player) and add a sample, will i have access to use the platter to scratch that same sample when queued (or presses) ? Or is the sample only manipulated by turning the volume on it up and down?
@crossfader : I don’t understand the problem you had on the DVS part. The DVS worked perfectly for me ( I test with Rekordbox DJ record or Phase ). And did you see that you can apply some PAD FX on a regular turntable/cd input ?
Coucou toi 😂😉
Like we said we may be just doing something wrong but it didn’t respond how we expected. Set it up exactly the same as normal with DVS. We will have to continue testing. Did you have it on relative mode?
In my mind it was in relative for the DVS, and in the video I played hotcues so it must be relative, yes.
Definitely a nice upgrade since I own a DDJ-SB2
DJ KYLOWW DDJSR2 is a decent upgrade but i agree this is more professional I’m just not a fan of Rekordbox so I’ll have to pass on this.
Does the tension adjust enhance scratching and make scratch releases tighter when set to or closer to heavy?
I liked the way you explained all features 👏👏
If Pioneer make a DDJ 450 (400 upgrade) like RB and RR. It's gonna be the best budget DJ Controller. The 800 is absolutely not worth it. A litte money from the 1000 for what? Speakers or headphones?
In Australia the DDJ1000 is almost $1000 more expensive than the DDJ800. I own both the 800 as a backup. That's not little money.
Not a big price difference from DDJ-1000 so ill go for that.
This or Denon mc 7000? Maybe some comparison in the future? :)
Thanks for the review.. when this dropped I was hella curious.. now I'm stoked being a ddj-rb owner.. looks like a natural progression to the 800.. instead of going to the holy grail of the 1000
Dude de 800 is way too high price imo just save up a little more and get the 1000
so in all honesty, would you buy this or save more for the DDJ-1000?
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner
i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you
I know both equipments are different and what is the best for my experience
thank you .
and great video
From new buyer perspective im kinda disappointed it is more like ddj 1000 there is still gap with nothing between 400 and 1000 and why i have to have laptop connected to use effects on my turntables, i had high hopes for that one imho Pioneer missing the target audience ,someone who potentially looking after ddj400 do not need LCD on jogs ,missed opportunity.
i may buy something else now.
Nice review.
Best demo video ever. Thank you.
If only the beat & SFX effects were built in, it could have been a winner, great review though Cross-fader 👍
I thought they where? So its a standalone mixer but without the fx?
@@PunchineloPow yes, you can only use the EQ, Faders, and trim, it's pointless, but I guess you could just keep a laptop plugged in, it's just an inconvenience, i could have seen this selling well if the effects were built in, but that's Pioneer for you
@@OfficialDJWolve you know i thought thats why it was priced at £779 because it was also a souped up djm 450 :(
Im sure on my old sz i could use the color fx when using it as a mixer. God knows. Deal breaker for me though tbh.
@@PunchineloPow yeah it's a real shame, but I guess if people use DVS then the laptop is already there.
@@OfficialDJWolve out of interest where did you see that the fx are software based as I havent heard it mentioned anywhere and the ddj 1000 are hardware based. Just curious is all :)
Hi there. I’ve not long started and have been using a WeGo4 to practise but wanted to upgrade to something with more features. I’ve been looking at the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-SR2. What you recommend? Bearing in mind I have not used serato or rekordbox yet.
I’m deciding to get the DDJ 800
Would you recommend the ddj 800 for a beginner or is it to much to handle for the first dj controller. Been looking at the ddj flx6GT for beginner but the dj800 is about $200 more... thanks
Good review!! How did they mess up that DVS bit? Rather pointless if it doesn't work! Overall good controller, but I think after watching this and other reviews, I'd rather save up and get the DDJ-1000
correct
They want to pay extra for using dvs record box, thats why didnt work with time code vinyl ⏺️
did you ever get DVS to work with DDJ-800? with 1000 it works perfect.
F
Yeah, i just wait for your review, very nice review, thanks Crossfader
The mixer's acrylic panel is a scratch magnet. Thank you Pioneer.
Put it in a case. Your welcome 😝
I’ve been using a DDJ WeGO 4 as a beginner for quite a while now and I feel that I’m ready to make the next step up. Would you recommend the DDJ 400 first or jump straight on to the DDJ 800?
DDJ 800 definitely
But anyway , there are also a bunch of Features that Pioneer still not apply on the new FLX 10 which should fit more in the new Pioneer Club Standard Corner ,, such as a Sound Coler Parameter Knob but they add 6 CFX now on the FLX 10 but still no Parameter Knob 🤦♂🙄 for me thats an Essential Software Thing which should be a solid Control Feature on a Rekordbox Essential Midi Controller Unit or it should be possible to just midi map that Knob BUT NO you just can't do that what a shame ... , So No background lighting SHIFT Button same fail as on the DDJ 1000, 800, 400 etc .. very unpracticeable at dark environments 🤦♂, No Pitch Fader
0 % green Light , .etc etc ... So try too get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 instead :)
I have a question. This video is now 4 years old. Can I now use Serato DJ software with the Pioneer DDJ 800 ??
when should i upgrade from ddj flx4 to ddj 800? i feel like ive learnt everything there is on the flx4 but i can defenetly still improve my dj mechanincs. but when should i upgrade to a ddj 800? is there a standard? like 1 or 2 or 3 years with flx4 before upgrading?
Love everything about this controller apart from the jog wheel digital display. Such a shame Pioneer haven't given you the option to turn the display off.
Brother, I want to do the online course but I need to buy all the kit first, can you tell me what I’ll need.. so the mixer itself, a laptop.. headphones.. what else do I need my mate? Been wanting to do this for years! 👊🏽💥
Just get a DDJ 400, a laptop and speakers and you're good to go.
@@gabrys567ify got it all 2 months ago mate, I’m already making half decent tunes 😁 my mate is a DJ he’s put all software on my laptop.. thanks tho 🙏🏽
I love your laptop skin. How did you made ??
Can you use the jog wheel to cue up your track as well? Or is that done only from the cue button?
Does the dvs work normally ? And does the color effects and pads work?
This is a really good review. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
They needed to make one for serato.. just like the 1000. Im actually back to using my vestax vci 400.
This was a great demo thanks
When a track is near ending, does the jog wheel indicate that by flashing like cdj?
It definitely does
I’m thinking about buying the DDJ 800
I'm on the 400. Am really used to the beat loop function on the 2nd pad. Easy access. Now its a shift-pad function? its the MAIN thing I use for club DJing. For looping the end of tracks to give me plenty of mixing time. 32 beat loops. If I use the loop on and off buttons up top they stop flashing after 1 bar. This is SHIT. Far out, I am upgrading but am now thinking of non-pioneer options.
Thanks for the review, clear explanation
Thank you for your help and learning about the controller 👌👏
Hey man great video. I recently just got my ddj 800 but no animations appear on my jog wheel and i cant seem to see how to fix that in the settings. If anyone knows i would appreciate it
When you record your mixes with Recordbox...does the sound-signal 1st goes via the Master-channel to the recording software?.thanx
Yes
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
I think that JOG ADJUST tension is more related to scratch response.
Hey. Are the phono preamps as bad as they are on the 1000?
Amazing controller.
Seeing Pioneer decided to produce a DDJ-1000SRT for Serato why do they
not produce a DDJ-800 for Serato, I have nothing against the Rekordbox
software but having used Serato for some time and being comfortable with
it, a Serato DDJ-800 would be a sharp move for Pioneer as it would
increase the sales of the 800 dramatically for those Serato users that,
like me do not need the 4 channels on the 1000SRT, I would by a
DDJ-800SRT tomorrow.
Nailed perfectly.
Same issue for me on Denon DJ, the Prime 4 has Serato support, the Prime 2 hasn't (yet).
And btw Rekordbox subscription sucks hard.
Didnt even know u could just hold the in loop button to auto create a 4 bar loop. Can that be done with quantise off or on?
I bought my Ddj RR last month, should change for ddj800???
Hmmmm
In my opinion it kinda depends on how important the Club layout is to you, because the DDJ 800 defenitely got a more Club like Layout.
NO! RR looks much better :))
Nope. Enjoy RR until you have money for a DDJ 1000 in the future
LumitronHD Tnks a lot!!! In fact the layout is what we see in first place in this new controller!
RB sucks and costs subscription, do not support this greedy company
I want to upgrade my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800?
Should I go for Roland Tr8s or Ddj 800
I already have 400 but it's outputs are not ok to work at bar sound systems.
Thanks, just got mine (£570 new) and your vid is really useful. Cheers.
Glad it helped!
30:50 wat? lucky me I didn't just buy it as my "DVS host". Any news on DVS with DDJ 800?
Super helpful video!
What about using the slicer mode? How do you get that set up?
maybe the only differentiator maybe the audio interface. But using a notebook for music you gernerally are already equiped with an high level audio interface.
Do you have a good case/bag suggestion for the DDJ 800?

Thanks for making this!
Really helpful. Thank you!
Waiting for the serato version of this controller..🔥
They don't have ddj 800 for pioneer huh? I have serato and I'm thinking about upgrading to ddj800.
I don't get all the hate on this one
We all don't want (or need) 4 channels or DVS
Although I agree with the caveats like the lack of full effects on microphone
And this is clearly overpriced, a $600-$700 tag would be a winner, but unfortunately Pioneer is still the industry standard and they can do that.
How to do instant doubles in DDJ 1000 ( what is the button combo) ?
double press the load button on the other deck. you have to double press pretty quick though i think.
