Lovely footage. It's quite a rarity to actually capture a train like that in such pristine condition on arrival! Just so sheek looking; well at least till the dust and dirt of operation kick in; though many's a railway modeler will tell you, no model train ever looks real without weathering! Oh and yeah nice touch mixing in 208 in her former blue livery (that is 208 right?) with the new consist coming in the opposite direction; I actually truly thought the engine with the new coaches was 208 in a later guise but on closer inspection I now know it's 206; mind you I had to rub my eyes a few times to convince myself what I actually saw. You picked a fitting time to do this too since as you know the fleets undergoing refurbishment :)

Superb Ciarán, love the transtion from old to new at 4:40. Out of interest what do you use to transfer what I presume were 8mm tapes? Congrats on the 1000 subs btw, much deserved!

The Irish Mainline Glad you liked it, they were VHS-C tapes, played through VCR and recorded onto DVD using a recorder, these aren't mine of course, but I use roughly same method for my own mini-DV tapes.

Eiretrains Ah yes, good ol' VHS-C. Wish I'd have used that format myself, would have made archiving to digital format much easier.

These are the best trains in Ireland and they should be used across the network instead of just the Dublin to Belfast line !

Wow such beauty, brand new, not even a scratch. Then it hits the border and bricks are pelted at it. I remember heading down the ways to dublin and the window got hit by a brick, some stupid waste of a human with no brain's thinking its great craic to throw bricks at the train headding south. Thank goodness the window did it's job and didn't come through.

Before the DART in 1981 I was on a train in Dun Loaghire station on my way home from school, I travelled everyday between Lansdown and Shankill. But I was standing at the door and some moron threw a rock at the train from the bus stop up on the road and it smashed through the door window and hit me right in the middle of my forehead ,I still have the scare 40 years later . everybody was shocked for me because I was only 11 .

Did the DeDietrich coaches ever get a run out on the Cork line?

During trials when new in 1997, they ran down the Cork line to Limerick Junction and back again.
