I love how he says that people who leave the religion never served in bethel. I served for over 5 years and was an overseer in the Brooklyn bethel factory. I know personally some who have left. U don’t need to serve to see how awful this religion is and how they destroy families.

Ironically Darwen's theory of evolution will kick in, the choices being ; the JW's wont change and become extinct, or there will be a great "renaissance" where they renounce and admit all their evils and failings and become a more mainstream Christian group and survive ? When I was a JW, we would criticize the TV evangelists because they used emotional manipulative tools like over-the-top testimonials and songs during their preaching. The song right after the apostate talk is just scary.
Whole my life i have been told the same about other religions ,they use emotions to manipulate people and to see how the JW work ,specially today with all these videos they do, makes you realize religions are all very similar not in the good way.

The most bizarre part is when I was a JW we accepted the broadcasts with no questions. Sure, the songs were cringe, but I never thought we were doing anything similar to the TV evangelist types. Two years after getting out of the cult, watching Stephen Lett lurching around on screen, I feel like an absolute idiot for not connecting the dots.

All false promises with no biblical fulfillment. The remnant of the 144,000 teachings has changed in an instant to suit their false statements. 1975 devastated my family, and my parents in particular. I can’t tell you how many JW’s were devastated financially with this corrupt teaching. Obviously 1975 came and went without so much as a glitch. Now to compensate for that false prophecy, they have come up with another false idea of the “overlapping generation.” I figure that it will probably buy them another 80 years, so as to keep a stranglehold on its publishers. I can’t tell you to run away as fast as you can, but I admonish you to dive deeper than the misleading info the JW’s reveal. 🙏

I was born into the organization and it never sat well with me even as a child. I'm only months from leaving for university and freedom. I've spent years trying to explain my criticism of the organization to my family, trying to tell them I've always meant well by it, but I'm done with the harassment and constant punishments for feeling this way. At this point I don't even care about trying to change their minds, I just want to be free of the organizations grip.

Honestly the "drowning puppies in the bathtub" analogy blew my mind. I've never once thought of it that way and I've been a religious skeptic for more than 20 years now. Excellent work.
I often thought of it like that because loads of newborn human babies would have been killed. Innocents who did nothing wrong except be born to people God thought didn't worship his weak ego enough. The fact the rainbow is a promise to never murder everyone in that specific way always made me feel like God failed to learn a lesson. Surely the lesson should have been, 'I won't commit genocide again'. In which case, armageddon wouldn't be needed. We could skip straight to 1k years of getting to know him in a manner where he can talk to us and make it clear he exists. No one needs to suffer, everyone gets to know about him, and JWs don't spend their life preaching to shut doors. The whole thing felt like pointless torture after torture, and I tried to ignore it, but both situations felt very wrong to me.
I know how hard it is to be “turned into the elders” by a family member. My daughter turned me in because I bought the book “Crisis of Conscience”, she never even asked me why I bought it. Now she’s afraid of me. 💔

It lead me to do research and to waking up from the indoctrination. I have another son who’s active but says he will never shun me, and my 33 year old marriage is in shambles because my husband loves his JW life and will most likely never leave. But, I have hope that maybe someday we will all make our way out and embrace our freedom together as a family, I hope you are free and happy!

Mine as well! Unfortunately she is still unable to participate in parties and celebrations etc, she feels uncomfortable, it goes to show how deep in the subconscious mind this cult can penetrate, but at least she's free from the cult in other ways.
I lost my wife to these people. Before we split, they invited me to study with them and debate with them. I prepared myself very well. At the time I was still a Christian. After the first session the would not allow her to attend because they couldnt answer my challenges to their beliefs. I hate that we have to lose our friends and family because of these irrational beliefs. I am thankful that there are others out there taking this fight out into the real world and exposing them. i told my parent this if it was true - why cant i read it once and move on - and why can i not look at contrary ideas , knowing if i have truth it cant be shaken ? in school i didnt keep going over fundamental truths again and again. we learned , were tested we had it and moved on ... I never comment on videos but I have to make an exception. You have my deep appreciation for creating this talk which was enlightening for me. I have relatives who are and were JWs. I was raised in another cult known as WCG. My Dad is the only one who remains in one of it's offshoots. I got out 30 years ago but the effects still remain. Through therapy I continually realize how deeply I am influenced by their indoctrination. Something you said helped me understand what may explain why I struggle to feel optimism and other positive emotions like love, happiness and satisfaction, though I work at it all the time. ""... they realize that every facet of their members lives are tied up with the organization, including their hopes and their dreams for the future. They want them to focus on what they currently have and then contemplate their empty, purposeless lives if they leave.". I just realized that this is what played out for me. Some part of me hasn't seemed to have gotten over the loss of what I was taught to believe. It's like a part of me still expects the happiness and satisfaction to be fulfilled now that I am in the promised future. It's hard not to feel resentment towards these con-men.

I’m always confused by the idea that knowledge can somehow infect a person. There are very few times when having a comprehensive knowledge of something doesn’t act just like a vaccination. Being loved is certainly more important than not being poor, as long as there's enough food. I say this from a perspective of a person who had parents who never spent any time with me, were always working, pretended to be working for my sake so that I wouldn't complain about being permanently alone and were spending money not on me, but on their personal pleasures and to heighten their social status. You seem like you're bragging about how hardworking you are and passing it off as a favour to your child when it most likely isn't. Having no breaks is likely to burn you out over time at which point you're not going to be particularly good to your child regardless of any other intentions you might have. Just be careful and know your limits before you find out the hard way that you have any.

If the old stories of the Bible were even true, which I'm highly skeptical, then that means that God is not benevolent at all. As you said, he drowned 99.99% of the world when he, an all powerful being, could certainly come up with a better plan than that. He allowed children to get mauled by a bear. And he to this day allows suffering to continue. I was pretty amazed to learn that many early Christians called Gnostics believed that the God of the old testament was actually a wicked God and Jesus represented true God. That group was pretty much stamped out by the dominant church but it is interesting to know that now.

Because the framework of the two sects of the Christian religion is the same. Policies and requirements to remain within the congregation are different, of course, but they were both built upon the same exact foundation, therefore in principle they are very similar. Atheists and Agnostics aren't stupid, unread barbarians. We simply have the freedom to explore and research a variety of different religious practices without being bound to a single one.

I was born and raised as a JW but was never baptized. Started to question things when I was around 12 years old as I start to see the full view of how the world go round. And when I was in my high school days I tend to skip the weekly meetings by saying that we have a school project to do or something like that. and when I finished my college and started to work and live by my own that's the time I totally leave the organization. I felt so free, and light.
At 23:45 Harrison observes that all facets of a JW‘s life is tied up in the organization : church attendance, bible study, door to door work, etc., so the members have virtually no time to THINK for themselves. If they did, they would leave this cult and the leaders know this.

Just window cleaners and care workers and the organisation makes them feel special. @@TheTruthHurts I misunderstood. I thought you had email contact. I am sorry to hear that. I faded 3 years ago because my parents were in there late 80s and I could not see them struggle if they shunned me, so disassociating was not a good option for me. I have siblings that are still JWs but I was the only one that took care of my parents. It must be very hard to lose that contact and you have been very bold in making a stand. I feel a bit of a fraud because fading meat I can come and go as I please. Having one foot in and one out means that you can see how the organisation is changing and becoming more introspective and cult like. I believe there are many, many witnesses who have lost their belief and just go through the motions. I really hope you regain contact with your dad. You both miss out on that relationship, it would kill me to lose contact with my children. Good luck in your activism.

My dad is in his 50s and so I still hold out very minimal hope that one day he might wake up. I tried to help him before I disassociated. Although I have never been JW, I have a 15 yr old cousin that no longer believes and lives in fear. I advised him to pretend until he is financially independent. Two points: First, why do the JW faith leaders or JW members go to health professionals who went to university to learn their scientific skills and medical advancements? Why not go and see a Pioneer who has read some books about it. So for instance, with a raging toothache, go to a Pioneer who has read books about taking out teeth and let them do it. Or if you have an irregular heartbeat, pop in to see an Elder who has read books about it on the side, rather than corrupt yourself with a scientific solution. Oh, you mean when it suits, you don't mind taking advantage of folks who put all that effort into their lives to help others. If no one went to University to study these skills, what would JWs do? Point Two: the Elder giving the talk compares believing criticism of JWs belief system to believing that Elvis is still alive. This argument tactic is known as "the straw man" argument. Introduce a weak simile and knock it down which makes it look like you have destroyed the arguement. Whereas the Watchtower organisation have said in print that they are not perfect, they make mistakes, the Governing Body has made mistakes, and the Bible itself says to "carefully check these things, to see if they are so." If you find one or more of these 'mistakes', what should you do? Follow the mistake even though you know it is wrong?

I remember questioning the beloved Watchtower in a study session with an elder once. I can’t exactly remember what I was questioning but it didn’t sit well with him. All he said to me was, “Be careful what you say.” It was then that I realised that free speech is not even a thing in the organisation. It scared the hell out of me to be honest.
How do you not have a million subscribers by now? I know for a fact that your videos are far and away the best freethinker producers on RUclips. Your quality and sober rationality put to shame a lot of others in the field. Keep in mind that I love these channels, but the likes of viced rhino and aran Ra seem to lack something that you so naturally don't. You deserve so much more love than you have. I've never experienced shunning, but my heart bleeds for you at yours. It's not right, but remember that we humans are animals as well. Our savagery proves the truth of this. I’m going to be honest, being a JW taught me loads of critical thinking skills that I’ve leveraged in my career. I’ve done quite well through a master’s level of financial analysis and mathematics with the training I received. How much of that was accomplished through genetic potential, sheer will and/or training as a JW isn’t clear, but regular mental stimulation beyond traditional schooling, as well as the trained ability to sit for hours, actually helped me surpass my “worldly” peers. With that said, I didn’t use my critical thinking skills in relation to the religion until my early 30s. As soon as I did, the skills they indoctrinated me with did much to undo the indoctrination. Oh the irony!
As a former unbaptized publisher, I'm so glad that I stopped my studying with the Witnesses. I only studied with the witnesses just to make my mum happy. My mum is still fully indoctrination sadly. I stopped my study because of my sexuality towards other men, I just knew that I couldn't continue not with how the organisation treats LGBT members. Since stopping my studying, I'm more awake to the damaging affects of the organisation, it was the child sexual abuse cover ups that really made me realise that I was being taught by such a corrupt and evil organisation. I'm so glad that you found the strength to get away and now you have your own thoughts and opinions back, that must be a great feeling. Nowadays I'm living a happy life being a proud gay man! When I was a JW, we would criticize the TV evangelists because they used emotional manipulative tools like over-the-top testimonials and songs during their preaching. The song right after the apostate talk is just scary.
Whole my life i have been told the same about other religions ,they use emotions to manipulate people and to see how the JW work ,specially today with all these videos they do, makes you realize religions are all very similar not in the good way.

The most bizarre part is when I was a JW we accepted the broadcasts with no questions. Sure, the songs were cringe, but I never thought we were doing anything similar to the TV evangelist types. From over 60 years in the “truth” and having served in every position, I suggest that you do your own research like this gentleman who made the video. The governing body likes to keep its publishers dumb, stupid, and too embarrassed to ask serious questions. I assumed that everything they told me was truth, that is until I began to ask serious questions that they kept ignoring. I remember making a shepherding call on a missing ministerial servant. He related his doubts about the JW’s when the question of dinosaurs was answered in a most ridiculous manner, both in Awake and the Watchtower. Geez..... These were the identical questions that I have had since becoming a JW. Told to “don’t think about it, it will be revealed in the right time, its all hogwash from Satan, and if I did any research it would be considered to be apostasy!” Is that what the “elders from old” told the Beroeans? The faithful Beroeans researched the truth to find out whether or not things were really so. At what point in time did we start receiving answers from the governing body, but couldn’t scrutinize it using God’s word? Does 1875, 1900, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1936, 1975, ring a bell? All false promises with no biblical fulfillment. The remnant of the 144,000 teachings has changed in an instant to suit their false statements. 1975 devastated my family, and my parents in particular. I can’t tell you how many JW’s were devastated financially with this corrupt teaching. Obviously 1975 came and went without so much as a glitch. Now to compensate for that false prophecy, they have come up with another false idea of the “overlapping generation.” I figure that it will probably buy them another 80 years, so as to keep a stranglehold on its publishers. I can’t tell you to run away as fast as you can, but I admonish you to dive deeper than the misleading info the JW’s reveal. 🙏

I was born into the organization and it never sat well with me even as a child. I'm only months from leaving for university and freedom. I've spent years trying to explain my criticism of the organization to my family, trying to tell them I've always meant well by it, but I'm done with the harassment and constant punishments for feeling this way. Honestly the "drowning puppies in the bathtub" analogy blew my mind. I've never once thought of it that way and I've been a religious skeptic for more than 20 years now. Excellent work.
I often thought of it like that because loads of newborn human babies would have been killed. Innocents who did nothing wrong except be born to people God thought didn't worship his weak ego enough.
The fact the rainbow is a promise to never murder everyone in that specific way always made me feel like God failed to learn a lesson. Surely the lesson should have been, 'I won't commit genocide again'. In which case, armageddon wouldn't be needed. We could skip straight to 1k years of getting to know him in a manner where he can talk to us and make it clear he exists. No one needs to suffer, everyone gets to know about him, and JWs don't spend their life preaching to shut doors.
The whole thing felt like pointless torture after torture, and I tried to ignore it, but both situations felt very wrong to me.
I know how hard it is to be “turned into the elders” by a family member. My daughter turned me in because I bought the book “Crisis of Conscience”, she never even asked me why I bought it. Now she’s afraid of me. 💔

It lead me to do research and to waking up from the indoctrination. I have another son who’s active but says he will never shun me, and my 33 year old marriage is in shambles because my husband loves his JW life and will most likely never leave. But, I have hope that maybe someday we will all make our way out and embrace our freedom together as a family, I hope you are free and happy!

I lost my wife to these people. Before we split, they invited me to study with them and debate with them. I prepared myself very well. At the time I was still a Christian. After the first session the would not allow her to attend because they couldnt answer my challenges to their beliefs. I hate that we have to lose our friends and family because of these irrational beliefs. I am thankful that there are others out there taking this fight out into the real world and exposing them. I never comment on videos but I have to make an exception. You have my deep appreciation for creating this talk which was enlightening for me. I have relatives who are and were JWs. I was raised in another cult known as WCG. My Dad is the only one who remains in one of it's offshoots. I got out 30 years ago but the effects still remain. Through therapy I continually realize how deeply I am influenced by their indoctrination. Something you said helped me understand what may explain why I struggle to feel optimism and other positive emotions like love, happiness and satisfaction, though I work at it all the time. ""... they realize that every facet of their members lives are tied up with the organization, including their hopes and their dreams for the future. They want them to focus on what they currently have and then contemplate their empty, purposeless lives if they leave.". I just realized that this is what played out for me. Some part of me hasn't seemed to have gotten over the loss of what I was taught to believe. It's like a part of me still expects the happiness and satisfaction to be fulfilled now that I am in the promised future. It's hard not to feel resentment towards these con-men.

I say this from a perspective of a person who had parents who never spent any time with me, were always working, pretended to be working for my sake so that I wouldn't complain about being permanently alone and were spending money not on me, but on their personal pleasures and to heighten their social status.
You seem like you're bragging about how hardworking you are and passing it off as a favour to your child when it most likely isn't. Having no breaks is likely to burn you out over time at which point you're not going to be particularly good to your child regardless of any other intentions you might have.
Just be careful and know your limits before you find out the hard way that you have any.

If the old stories of the Bible were even true, which I'm highly skeptical, then that means that God is not benevolent at all. As you said, he drowned 99.99% of the world when he, an all powerful being, could certainly come up with a better plan than that. He allowed children to get mauled by a bear. And he to this day allows suffering to continue. I was pretty amazed to learn that many early Christians called Gnostics believed that the God of the old testament was actually a wicked God and Jesus represented true God. That group was pretty much stamped out by the dominant church but it is interesting to know that now.
That last part about God being a wicked God and Jesus being the true God has honestly crossed my mind.
And he didn't stop King David from handing over the sons and grandsons of King Saul to the Gibeonites to pay for wickedness on Saul's part. So yes the Bible doesn't condemn the merciless and obviously painful public crucifixion if young men maybe even boys in their teens.

I was born and raised as a JW but was never baptized. Started to question things when I was around 12 years old as I start to see the full view of how the world go round. And when I was in my high school days I tend to skip the weekly meetings by saying that we have a school project to do or something like that. and when I finished my college and started to work and live by my own that's the time I totally leave the organization. I felt so free, and light.

@@TheTruthHurts I misunderstood. I thought you had email contact. I am sorry to hear that. I faded 3 years ago because my parents were in there late 80s and I could not see them struggle if they shunned me, so disassociating was not a good option for me. I have siblings that are still JWs but I was the only one that took care of my parents. It must be very hard to lose that contact and you have been very bold in making a stand. I feel a bit of a fraud because fading meat I can come and go as I please. Having one foot in and one out means that you can see how the organisation is changing and becoming more introspective and cult like. I believe there are many, many witnesses who have lost their belief and just go through the motions. I really hope you regain contact with your dad. You both miss out on that relationship, it would kill me to lose contact with my children. Good luck in your activism.
@@reggiekray723 Thanks Reggie. There is a saying 'Don't judge a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes.' Everyone's situations different so you definitely shouldn't feel like a fraud at all. My dad is in his 50s and so I still hold out very minimal hope that one day he might wake up. I tried to help him before I disassociated. But I had no intention of trying to wake up my grandparents as it's all they have at their age. If they were to realise that they wasted their entire life and indoctrinated their kids it might kill them.

When you have been out for a few years and you hear these talks you do feel like you are being spoken to like a 5 year old by an overbearing aunt.
But, it wasn't when we were a member of the cult. We noded our heads in agreement. When he finished we clapped. I clapped because everyone else was. When I began to realize what I was doing, I stopped clapping. I started to listen more to what they were really saying. They wanted us to only look at JW. The more former members speak out about the Cult, the more they try to demonize them. Opposers, Suppressives, Apostates. The cults all have their special names for them. Any way that they can make the Us verses Them way of thinking. And the cult members follow along like sheep to the slaughter. They hand over their critical thinking ability. Their mind submission will make them shun members of their own families because they question the organization or speak out about the organization. It's an amazing thing to observe. How can seemingly intelligent people, be so controlled? To hand over their mind to this or any cult? And what does it take to make them open their eyes?

He was familiar with your channel and agreed that it was a "great channel" (my words) and that he was going to contact you about perhaps being on his channel. Two points: First, why do the JW faith leaders or JW members go to health professionals who went to university to learn their scientific skills and medical advancements? Why not go and see a Pioneer who has read some books about it. So for instance, with a raging toothache, go to a Pioneer who has read books about taking out teeth and let them do it. Or if you have an irregular heartbeat, pop in to see an Elder who has read books about it on the side, rather than corrupt yourself with a scientific solution. Oh, you mean when it suits, you don't mind taking advantage of folks who put all that effort into their lives to help others. If no one went to University to study these skills, what would JWs do? Point Two: the Elder giving the talk compares believing criticism of JWs belief system to believing that Elvis is still alive. This argument tactic is known as "the straw man" argument. Introduce a weak simile and knock it down which makes it look like you have destroyed the arguement. Whereas the Watchtower organisation have said in print that they are not perfect, they make mistakes, the Governing Body has made mistakes, and the Bible itself says to "carefully check these things, to see if they are so." If you find one or more of these 'mistakes', what should you do? Follow the mistake even though you know it is wrong?

I remember questioning the beloved Watchtower in a study session with an elder once. I can’t exactly remember what I was questioning but it didn’t sit well with him. All he said to me was, “Be careful what you say.” It was then that I realised that free speech is not even a thing in the organisation. It scared the hell out of me to be honest.

Your quality and sober rationality put to shame a lot of others in the field. Keep in mind that I love these channels, but the likes of viced rhino and aran Ra seem to lack something that you so naturally don't. You deserve so much more love than you have. I’m going to be honest, being a JW taught me loads of critical thinking skills that I’ve leveraged in my career. I’ve done quite well through a master’s level of financial analysis and mathematics with the training I received. How much of that was accomplished through genetic potential, sheer will and/or training as a JW isn’t clear, but regular mental stimulation beyond traditional schooling, as well as the trained ability to sit for hours, actually helped me surpass my “worldly” peers.
With that said, I didn’t use my critical thinking skills in relation to the religion until my early 30s. As soon as I did, the skills they indoctrinated me with did much to undo the indoctrination. Oh the irony!
As a former unbaptized publisher, I'm so glad that I stopped my studying with the Witnesses.
I only studied with the witnesses just to make my mum happy. My mum is still fully indoctrination sadly.
I stopped my study because of my sexuality towards other men, I just knew that I couldn't continue not with how the organisation treats LGBT members.
Since stopping my studying, I'm more awake to the damaging affects of the organisation, it was the child sexual abuse cover ups that really made me realise that I was being taught by such a corrupt and evil organisation.
I'm so glad that you found the strength to get away and now you have your own thoughts and opinions back, that must be a great feeling.
