8:13 I love that BMW seatbelt hug. It's like your car saying "I got you buddy" when you take off. No other car gives you a hug quite like that. And I've never felt as confident on the road as I do in an X3.
Actually, the Mercedes S-Class does!
Great review, i loved that you covered literally everything. Thank you
You are so welcome!
Just got a 2021 X3 M40i and it’s the best car I have ever had-even more fun than my 2004 M3 convertible. The brakes are fantastic as is the handling and the exhaust sounds are thrilling! I love it❤️❤️❤️
Congrats! I will need to review a M40i then in the future and see for myself :).
If all goes according to plan I’ll be getting one in a few weeks. I’ve never seen a bad review about this SUV! 👍🏾!
What about steering? I heard it's no good in 340i because there's no space for the new steering rack used in 330. I bet X3 engine bay is plenty big

I’m in the market of getting CPO of that same car. Can you please express how you’re feeling about the car 3 years later? Any major repairs, issues, likes, dislikes? Thanks!
Great video! Super comprehensive.
Great review!
Thank you buddy for your simple and honest review and attention to details!
Thanks for the kind words Arthur, appreciate it!
I appreciated it too!
Very comprehensive review. thanks
BTW Consumers Reports ranks this as one of the best vehicles that they tested with very high marks all around.
But real world owners give it 1 star do more research
Utter bullshit. They get great reviews, including from me.
Sounds like you want one but can’t afford it,
@markanderson3618 I love people like you that make irrational assumptions and feel the need to insult people in order to try to make their point relevant. The X1 is one if 3 vehicles we own. I was in the market for an X3 M4.0 but they didn't have the color I wanted. I'm glad I didn't get that gas guzzler now. It's my wife's daily driver and is fully optioned. Plus, we added a few aftermarket parts to make it more comfortable, mostly for me. We also removed those terrible run flats and purchased 19" wider aftermarket wheels and bigger performance summer tires. Nothing cheap about that. We kept the original wheels for our winter tires.
Wow very nice car. I was just checking out the X3 online. It gets a lot of things right! Thanks for the review!
Your welcome!
Excellent review, thanks! The is the first review that I have seen that comments about too many buttons..most reviewers complain about not enough. 😁 With regard to the row of presets, these can be radio stations but can also be set to shortcuts for commonly used and preferred functions. Once you are used to the buttons, and the iDrive controller, I can't think of what should be removed? Your review details drive, visibility and seating which is really thorough and welcome! Good job!
I just bought a 2017 X5 does this come with auto start??
The X3 M40i is fabulous - I have had mine 4 weeks now and I love it!
Congrats Jackie, thanks for sharing!
what color is this alphine or mineral?
Can someone tell me please how to open the CD/DVD? 😥
Keep the BMW review coming
How would compare the ride and noise quality to Volvo XC60?
Thank you this helps
Loveeeeeeeee this video! I’m in between x1 & x3. We are definitely neighbors, only 10 mins from this location...thank you so much for such informative review ☺️
Your welcome :) Mention you saw my videos to the managers when you stop by.
X1 is Does Not Worth. buy x3
Picking mine up in a few weeks. I got the M40i trim. Drives like a dream.
Congrats!
I noticed in the video you have a hitch receiver installed. I just got my new 2021 x3 and I need to install a hitch receiver just for bike rack, how can I do that? Thanks.
You actually complaining about having buttons for, a hazzard button, climate controls, radio, heated seats etc? How else.woukd you control it? BMW offers you the option if the console dial control or conventional buttons. I own a 2015nm sport x3 and drove the 2020 x3 for a few days as a loaner. The interior layout has improved, but not much else other than a bump from the 2.8 to 3.0l and smoother less aggressive bodyline. I prefer the more muscular look of the 2015-2016 style better.
I must say you are incorrect when you said that Android auto is standard on the 2021 year. It is not on my 2021 x3 xdrive. Only Apple play
I love the fall-flat backseats.
Sorry for asking,is this car have handbrake?
This was a great review of the 2021 BMW X3. I'm about to pull the pin on my purchase but I'm going for the 2021 X3 30e hybrid. I agree with the assessment of Vernasca leather being an option at $1450.00 being pricey but the 30e has a little bit more umphh from the engine at 288hp and I like the 60mpg overall fuel efficiency. Thanks again!
Thank you! I would like to drive and review the 30e in the future, yes the additional power and better fuel economy does make a lot of sense.
As a 2020 30e owner, I can tell you that you're going to love it. I've got a little over 2,000 miles on my car, and the overall fuel economy is more than 50 mpg. Yep, you only get 20-22 miles of all electric, but once that's gone, if you're in stop and go traffic and in Eco Pro mode, you'll be generating electric power every time you use the brakes. Plus the transition from electric to gas or gas to electric is super smooth.

good review sir
The brakes smooth out after a few hundred miles break in period and are not a problem. If you are big in stature make sure the seat bolsters are comfortable for you. They stick up more than other cars i have owned.
Excellent review of both X3 and X5. No need for me to have an in person salesperson!
Best explanation about x3. Thank you
Very comprehensive and great detail in your reviews. You put a lot of homework into your reviews to get all that detail into your review.
Thanks, appreciate your support.
Nice video! Does this come with ability to lock/unlock remotely through a mobile app
yes with the BMW app and many more features. With the 3D parking mode, you can remotely view your car while parked and the surroundings, using the BMW app
The Sports plus does shift quicker, but you do need to know how to step on the throttle. If you step on it all the way, it activates the throttle click (not sure about the name on bmw). thats more for accelerating from a stop. If you are trying to overtake a car, step on fully but not all the way and you get the acceleration difference. But I agree, it can get annoying when it keeps the gear lower, its just trying to access stronger gears quicker.
Love your comprehensive review. I've been an avid fan of bmw since 2016. My first car was a 3series and almost at the same time got 2017 x3 xdrive. I traded in both vehicles for a 2019 x3 xdrive and I love it. 2021 x3 is very tempting as I like additional features as you describe.
New subscriber here from Vegas.
Welcome Willie! The X3 is a very nice choice for a luxury compact SUV.
Just got one
The X3 M4.0 is the go to vehicle...It has everything and power too.
Do you mean 40i
I don't think you actually mentioned what the changes are from 2020 to 2021...
Is this a 3.0 or 2.0
Use paddle shifters in Sport +
Been doing lots of research. I am leaning X3 for following perhaps may be helpful. 1. The X3 in base form with standard 18 inch wheels looks sporty and conservative at same time, that appeals to me. 2. I do like the look of XC-60 but every version has a panoramic roof. Do not like this for Sun issues in S Florida and long term reliability as a purchase. Matter of fact I do not want a sunroof at all and I can get that on X3!. 3. You can still get the synthetic leather in base model again for durability and easy to clean long term ( just use water) 4. This is the only Lux Cuv that handles well, and engine and transmission sound well together with a nice ride on top. With the only option I want ( I wish I could get topview camera system as stand alone) I want the large nav screen package price around 47k. 2021 now has Android Auto as well! Will probably have to order one to get the stand alone tech package or skip it to get a better price on dealer standing inventory. Reliability is not terrible on the new X3 it has been around a while now, it is not a Range Rover. Should do as well as everything else short of a Lexus... Also it is made in America!
Yeah the base model X3 is pretty compelling. The quiet ride, big windows, non-perforated SensaTec (vinyl) upholstery is easy to clean, no sunroof, 18" rims, and not-terrible reliability are all compelling reasons to chose it. Also I don't like the Lexus steering wheels and upholstery. The Lexus steering wheels are either perforated leather or combo with wood, and seats are all perforated. Not easy to maintain.
Have you looked at the upcoming Genesis? I'm torn between these 2.
Buttons are good. Try driving and Living with a new Golf. Very minimalist and a pain to access everything when you need it
I currently own the 2021 X3 XDrive (this is my 12th BMW since 1970's) and find this report accurate except for a few points, The reviewer should have used in Sport mode the paddle shifters to achieve optimal power/acceleration or configured the Sport Individual mode. Quite a difference from using Comfort mode, actually quite fast and can configure the dash to display power/torque gauges. The BMW power, handling, acceleration feel is there, but a little investigation is necessary to customize and calibrate these options. In sport mode the engine is quiet and performs well. A difference I noted from earlier models is that optimal power is achieved at lower RPMs, keeping the engine quiet and powerful.
Excellent review just having driven the same car Thursday night. My wife hit a deer and totaled her 17 Q5 so we thought we'd drive the BMW and Mercedes before we bought a new vehicle. Sticker on the BMW we drove was 49,165.00 with the real leather. Loved it and it was more of a drivers car. My review was similar to yours and enjoyed the car to our previous gen Audi...and so did she. Last night we then drove the 21 Audi q5....49,775.00 plus and minus across the board in comparison but felt the car was smoother, soaked up the bumps more and felt slightly more powerful....and we liked the fact that all wheel drive was standard. Today will be the Benz.... Of the 3 which do you feel is the over all better vehicle
.
Hi Jeff, I haven't driven the glc yet but between the x3 and q5, its a tough choice. Both have their advantages but I think the q5 drove slightly better.
@@DriversOnly Thanks for the quick feed back. We just drove the GLC...best looking exterior and inside of the 3. It did feel slightly smaller, could be me...I really liked it especially with the AMG handling package. The Audi still drives the best and isolates you better. Tough choice.. we will buy Monday between these two. Both are 2021 AWD and the Merc. is about 3k more.
@@Jassman3536 Consumer Reports places the X3 at a much higher rating than the Audi Q5. You could probably get the SQ5 for the same price if you ask for a demo. Maybe a 2020 SQ5 still on the lot.
@@xorbitman We bought the Audi Q5. It drove the best out of the 3 in my opinion, felt quicker and the tech was better with a wireless charging pad. All 3 were close splitting hairs and I would not have had a problem with either other than I want awd and the BMW had none in their allocation. It also came down to the dealership and I felt the most comfortable with them on the non aggressive approach and showing the differences between the cars.
How would you rank this against the Merc GLC?
I'm glad I went with GLC. I was torn between X3 vs GLC but overall the GLC drives much smoother since it doesn't have that ultra tight sport BMW suspension and steering. The MBUX infotainment system is much smoother, easier, and more advanced than even the latest idrive. And if you can find the autopilot/driver assistance package in your GLC, you get better autopilot w/ automatic lane change and auto resume from stop assuming it's been less than ~1 min. If you want something that is a little more sporty, you might like X3 more, but overall they're very close competitors.
@@Bayside628 I like the X3 more just for overall build. And personally I like I drive a bit more but that GLC is very compelling.
With all due respect, I disagree with the critic's view of "busy buttons." I love the interior design of the 2021 X3. Buttons may seem numerous at the beginning, but after a week of driving it, I appreciate the one-touch convenience these buttons offer. This is one of the reasons I chose X3 over Lexus 2021 ES 350, which has a minimalist interior. BTW I like the 2021 X3 interior design much more than the 2021 X5 (the next gen). The newer console (also found in 2021 330i) looks cheap and plain ugly to me
Buttons any day over display icons. I get it, it looks spacy but it's very inconvenient and dangerous because you get distracted when trying to use them on displays. Plus the fingerprints which means you have to wipe them down often or the interior will look rancid in no time.
Also wish the piano finish fad will die soon.
I think you should try the paddle shifters for some kick
Just ordered mine yesterday! Switching over from a Mercedes GLC 300. There are pros and cons to both but the X3 had a lot more features than my GLC, and that’s why I chose to go with BMW.
Congrats!
How much??
Haven't really explored glc. But surprised to hear that. Cos some reviews say glc has more luxurious feeling, more number of features etc. Not really?
Ps: collecting my X3 30i in a couple of days
just one question: why did you take your hands off the steering wheel so often when you were talking?
You really did not have to.
@@mangolighters coz safety comes first
Do you need to shift manually in sport plus mode?
The sunshade might be optional.
what is Exactly the name of this x3? X30i m sport or xline? pls tell me
there aren't 'M' signs everywhere, no M Sport steering wheel and "X3" plate is visible near to wireless charging => it's not M version
I notice it doesn't have a voice activation system.
It does. At least in Australia.
Thanks for the great review and honest comments. But, the only difference from 2020 seems to be the android play as far as I understand.
Android auto, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
@@DriversOnly are these all standard features? or part of an added package?
@@hungryguyza8664 New for 2021
Android Auto newly optional
Blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning now standard
No acoustic window glass which will attribute to the noise of hearing cars drive by…. Same issue with the X5’s.
Is there also a 12" media screen too?
Not for the x3, that's in the x5.
@@DriversOnly So the same as the 2021 X1. That X1 is looking more and more like a class leading bargain. The MB has more advanced features specifically the infotainment system and digital dash. But the X1 is better looking especially the M version with M brakes as an option.
For 2022, yes!
My only 2 fave cars are XC40 and this one
This is a beautiful car, however we owned a 2015 X3 with the six cylinder engine and it had weird electrical issues. The only time the car was fine was when the temperature was below 40 degrees. Go figure. Lol - we traded it in when the temperature was 0 degrees. We took it to BMW many times to get the issue resolved, they couldn't fix it.
Bmw suuuuuck
@@JoeTricep why you watching bmw review then if you're not planning on buying one? Seems weird
Nick C4 because im curious to see why other people like them
You bought a German car and didn’t expect electrical issues?
Is there a spare/spacesaver wheel in X3?
No you can buy space saver tyres for them but be careful as they dont make them to fit all different wheel diameters.
@@petercreagh8797 If you opt for the space saver spare, the cargo floor is raised and becomes higher than the folded seatbacks, , and you loose the storage area underneath.
Extra cost option. Run flats are standard - I think in all BMWs now.
new x3 is size of an old x5
as is the 2021 3 series the same size as a 2013 f10; consumers want more room less weight
My issue with BMW is reliability. That’s what stop me from pulling the tigger I will move forward with the Acura RDX.
The X3 is a better car than the RDX. You might be surprised to know that the Acura RDX has much worse reliability than the X3 according to Consumer Report's survey data. First year 2018 for the X3 was troublesome but they improved quality for 2019 and the X3 now has average reliability according to CR's survey which, along with very high marks on their road test, makes the X3 good enough to earn their recommendation. Honestly, the X3 is the only BMW SUV I'd even consider. The other ones are more problematic.
@@toronado455 It's still not going to reliable long term, but I do agree with the RDX. Putting in the turbo in the RDX means similar long term problems.
I got an rdx and experienced limp mode which was really scary... Google the issue before you make your decision regarding reliability. Also very different cars in terms of luxury. For example, the RDX does not have power folding mirrors (at least in the US), which is strange for a luxury suv. No touchscreen for rdx either, infotainment system is glitchy.
I’m getting this car in 3 months
Same as the 2020
X3 ♥️
I think the "twitchy" brakes is a BMW/Audi thing, and it'll get better as you get used to the brake feel and the pads wear in. It did with me.
Noticed the same thing with the x5 as well, strange. Almost feels like the transmission downshifting.
100% correct. I have had tons of cars including BMW, Porsche, Saab, VW, Alpha and BMW are set up with grabby breaks. It’s just a matter of driving the car and getting accustomed to the feel.
@@DD-sr9xm When I demoed one the brakes came on very sudden which is exactly the same feel as the brakes on my BMW motor bike so the transition was easy. Hopefully by just applying light pressure in non emergency situations the pads will last a long time.
I don't think people are really looking for mushy brakes but people find anything to complain about
When it comes Turkey?
When the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Leatherette. You mean, vinyl aka pleather
This is my next car
Does the 2020 or 2021 X3 have remote/auto start? I've seen some videos where in the menu it can be set up
I asked the dealer this question and was told the remote start is only available in x5 and higher trims. That is disappointing as even many standard brands now come with remote starts.
I believe it will be available for 2022!
This is how to review a car!
I am George, we are all George.
IFKYK
Good video but I disagree that x3 is bigger than the old one (not that it matters). I've had both and the old one was definitely bigger.
Hearing the noise from the cars passing by is not a flaw
My $15-20k repair bill lesson tells me, BMW could design a nice seat belt tensioning, but eventually, some sensor will fail on it, it will annoy u to fix it, $1000, and a month down, you can be pretty sure it will come back in about 12 months.
If you can't afford it don't buy it, also they do have warranty and lease options you bmw bashers should probably not be watching bmw reviews if you have such a dislike for them
Nick C4 one BWM and last BMW. U go ahead. Not interested to talk about my financial with u.
@@UYT7715Flower you kinda stated your financial situation above my dude, but for real tho I'm just curious to why your here watching a car review you have 0 interest in buying? It just seems weird to me is all.
@@nickc4853 I was told BMW made a very nice seatbelt tensioner.
For $20 grand I would drive without the seat belt tensioner! 😳😅
These rims. Cannot stand them. Wish they’d go back to the older style
I agree. I prefer the rims on the 18”s
They are only including options when people complain that there not standard. For what they are charging, you can do better elsewhere. But of course if you are buying status, this is for you.
Have you price checked these??? Brand new explorer cost more lol with cheap ugly interior. I'm shopping for a suv for my wife and 2021 explorer is 54,000 and I can get an x3 for 48,00
@@nickc4853 fords are outrageous in price.
1 thing BMW X3 doesn’t have it a starter remote..
also night vision view and soft close doors :(
Hi George :)
Hi George
The X2 Kind of looks like a Honda pilot on the sides of the car.
For a luxury vehicle with a high price why weren't the seats made from REAL LEATHER?
To lower costs so more people can buy the vehicle. It’s actually smart to do.
These days a lot of car review videos involve too much self-preference of the reviewers. Just let's us know what the cars offer and do and whether the interior panels look busy or too simple is up to the people who watch the videos.
It could be butter
Ground clearance in rain season is risky to ride Bmw, actually panorama syrup is not real use and security Safty purpose not required my view
Someone is spoiled by the Model Y
If there a spare tyre, this car is perfect to me
Sam A spare is an option now (at least in the US where I live). Glad it is at least available, where it has not been on many recent BMWs. Agree with you on the spare.
@@dennisvautrot189 lots of cars offer run flats from the factory such as bmw so a spare is pretty useless
Nick C4 Hi Nick C4, I was responding to Sam’s implication that that was no spare “tyre”. Really was not trying to debate the effectiveness of run flats. I was only confirming to him that a spare is available (since it’s clearly important to him).
rdx is better i think for the value, but lexus has better reliability even though it lacks performance
X3 drives better and the infotainment screen controls is so much better. RDX is definitely priced better. Haven't reviewed a NX yet but yes since its a Lexus reliability will be good.
I think that the X1 is a better value and looks very much the same. Actually the front end of the X1 and it's front headlights are nicer looking and it has all the same options and accessories. Plus you can add the BMS intake and you can hire programmers that can modify the software and HP too. it's also lighter than the X3 and you can tweak it to much more pep than the larger X3.
I got an X3 over and X1 because the X1 feels like I’m cramming into a 2 series. Way too small
@phantumgrey Sorry, you're wrong, the new X1 is almost the same dimensions as the X3 and gets much better gas mileage. You shouldn't be able to notice a difference unless you're way overweight.
@@xorbitman I'm 5' 9" 175lbs, thin muscular build and noticed a lot of room difference between the x1 and x3 during test drives. Only on paper are they close. Also if you own a BMW gas mileage is the least of your worries.
I guess you should test drive a BMW in a 'well-to-do' neighborhood ?? ;-)
Opt for the ///M next time so not every car/truck is passing you.

You look exactly like RUclips - George CryptosRUs, haha
I’m only here bc of the crypto channel. Also gotta figure out what I’m gonna buy when I’m rich.
Thats one of my biggest complaints about BMWs, they dont have the best brake feel.
This is a great car, as is the glc. Lease it dont own it ; ) and no worries
dont want to hate but the toyota corolla has adaptive cruise control, this car twice as expensive can't offer that standard. kinda lame.

wait arent we all george?
I'm sorry... but BMW's with 2.0 engines... this is not real BMW.... next time you try X3 M40, this is perfection...
From what I have read there is not a lot of difference in fuel economy between the 2 and 3 litre plus your buying an experience when you get the 3L. The 3L may last longer too as its not revving so hard.
