My BEST Capture of the Soul Nebula

  • I stayed on target with the Soul Nebula for 26 hours across many nights to capture this. It's captured in narrowband and processed in the Hubble Palette.
    Below is the equipment I used:

    Chuck you are the maestro of astrophotography. Instead of looking flat it appears 3d with the depth of the stars in the background. Brilliant! Fingers crossed

    At the last, during showtime, I saw many "Filaters": Ha, SII and OIII! You never let us go away without making us laugh, whether knowingly or unknowingly! Very nice pic Chuck! Your "Filaters" are great too! 🤣

    you make it look easy! I have been wanting to get into amateur astronomy since I was a kid (ever since I first saw the rings of Saturn through a Coulter Odyssy 1 reflecting telescope back in the 70s)... thanks for what you do!

    Another worthwhile session that produced a NASA APOD-worthy image to add to your collection! Outstanding job, Chuck. I am curious how the data would look in true color. I assume it would look pretty reddish due to the amount of Ha data. Would also be nice to show yours next to Travis’ (Astrobackyard), just to compare data (not skills).

      Thanks. I think we could all be on an equal level skill wise, but the Hubble Palette comes down to a matter of taste since it's false color.

    Hmmm, I kinda did like that 'flatter' color view versus the more brilliant color view ... but, they both look great. Also, congratulations on getting that Lobster Claw image in the November issue of Astronomy Magazine.

    That’s a great image of the Soul Nebula Chuck. Thanks for doing the step-by-step walk through all the image processing. Although I don’t have the gear or the software to do all this, it’s nice to see how things are done. Good luck with the APOD!! The Cat seems to really like the “Cat” telescope 😂

    Hey Chuck! - A beauty of a capture, well done!! - I notice at 6:35 you're inverting the image, running scnr then reinverting to get rid of magenta from the stars - you may consider trying out the 'correct magenta stars' script, one click and done, a very fast process to run! works awesome for me :-)

    Talking about thumbs and sewers, I don't know what's going on, lol 😉😉😉.
    This is beautiful. I can't wait till I get a telescope. I get so excited to see Venus, Jupiter and Mars with the naked eye. I've seen all the planets excluding Mercury and Pluto through a backyard telescope. What's the current vote on Pluto? Is it or isn't it?

    I've been capturing ha data for 3 nights straight now and am glad with the results, your final image looks phenomenal! Ive just got a skyguider tracking mount is all, framing is a challenge and i dont even bother with Mer flips because its such a pain to frame as is

    Personally, I'm not a big hubble palette guy (just hate the color green in space I guess), but you got tons of sharp detail in all those pillars and billows of gas and such... the palette does help those pop out.

    After you've renamed to Chuck's Wildlife & Astrophotography, you need to rename it again to Chuck's Wildlife, Fun-Facts & Astrophotography.     Great image, Chuck. I really like that one. I hate to say I haven't taken advantage of Starnet much. I like your method of processing the starless image. What process do you use to add the stars back in? It might make a nice 'Short' video. Thanks for sharing.

      In all seriousness.. green use to be in all Hubble palette images. Then somewhere along the way it became popular to remove 100% of green. I personally prefer to have a little green in there and have been leaving some in my SHO images.

    What do I think?, you know what I think boss, another great lesson for me!, hey so I'm getting great results with my asi2600mc pro and the rasa 8".. I'm thinking on start doing monochrome, what camera you think it would be a good choice, should I get the asi2600mm pro or smaller sensor would work ok with the rasa 8? I also have the Orion Eon 115 triplet. Any tips are welcome. Thanks Chuck.

      Thanks! I can't compare my EQ6R-Pro to the iOptron since I've never own an iOptron. But I'm very happy with the EQ6R-Pro
