    Thank you for this. I had a guy ask me to make him a guitar with like a framed body? Out of Purple Heart wood. Soooooo that’s going to be fun. A lot like that bass you made actually. That wood is absolutely gorgeous and I’ll be a bit more prepared to work with it now. Thanks again! 😁

    Great video. You mentioned you used 4" ABS. That looks larger than 4" more like 6" id. I am finding solid wall ABS larger than 4" is hard to find locally in lengths larger than 2' but since it does have a higher heat rating than PVC I will keep looking. Can you mention if the ABS has held up well to multiple uses? I know folks that have built out of PVC mention theirs sags.

    This is awesome, I hope we get more of these toolmaking/meta building videos from you! Question: does anyone know when/why steaming wood is better than just soaking wood?

    • @xylafoxlinoffcuts
      @xylafoxlinoffcuts  2 года назад +6

      Steam is hotter!

    • @jimurrata6785
      @jimurrata6785 2 года назад +2

      The heat loosens the lignin holding the wood fibers together.
      For REALLY flexible wood you can try anhydrous ammonia under pressure.

      It doesn’t loosen it.
      It softens and becomes flexible and the moisture makes the fibers more plastic.
      Soaking wood just swells up the fibers.

    One thing I have learned about applying epoxy in small places or more accurately is to use soft squeeze bottles. I am using the 1 ounce bottles that come in a pool chemistry kit. The nice thing is the top pops off so super easy to fill it, cap and use. Plus the soft plastic can be flexed after the epoxy has cured and picked out of the bottle so you can use it again!
