- One of the greatest sitarists of our time, Ustad Shahid Parvez, plays Raga Charukeshi. Tabla accompaniment provided by Shri Gourishankar Karmakar. From a concert in March 2012.

Pure bliss, Ustaad. Shahid sahab is phenominal, clarify of notes.... the chikari sounds.... his methodology and intricacy just stands out.
No comparisons but he just stands out form the rest.

This is a Very new composition Played By Ustad Shahid Parvez in Raga Charukeshi.It is a Very Soothing and Musical Gat.It Has always been a Learning experience whenever I hear him.My Regards to the Great Maestro and Living Legend Padmasree Ustad Shahid Parvez.
The sound quality is amazing. Charukeshi has now become synonymous with Shahid ji. Fabulous accompaniement by Gourishankar ji.
Amazing tabla accompaniment!! One of the best I have seen/heard.
He did a very interesting adjustment in the tihaee that starts at 8:19. The line of the tihaee was: "re ga ma". He realized that the gat is starting on "Ga" and the tihaee is ending right on the gat. So in the last line, he made a quick adjustment and played "re ma ga" instead of "re ga ma"
It's very hard to keep track of all the things, realize that something won't be right and then correct it! Hats off to the master! 🙏🏼

Gourishankar ji, you have accompanied Ustad Shahid Parvez with incredible grace and tastefulness. I love how you always bring your compositions right into the mukhra! And the clarity of your tone is beautifully captured in this recording.

Eventhough this Raag is of South, but it's very much soothing and drags a person in trans.I am a fan of Ustadji.Vah vah.We are proud of having such an artist among our Classical players..GOD BLESS HIM....

I would like to say that I fully agree with you. I am a tabla player too, and am studying the art of accompaniment, mainly by observing other tabla players. This is a wonderful example. The tabla player is fully 'involved' in the performance, his body and facial expressions are indicating this, and he is yet providing just enough tabla to suit the mood of the performance, never once detracting from Shahidji's playing. He pretty much plays only theka for a large portion of it, yet it never seems mechanical or repetitive as he constantly varies volume and dynamics. I love it. Big respect to Gourishankarji.

One of the greatest sitarist of our time? He is THE greatest sitarist that India has produced thus far and this is no disrespect to late Ustad Valyat Khan Sahib at all.

That's the depth of accompaniment from Farrukhabad Gharana, it's known for its accompaniment besides many other attributes. Shahidji is beyond words its ethereal.

Listen to the two other famous Gats from Ustad ji. One in Rupaak taal and the other one in teen taal. They are widely available (even Shakir plays them often). You will change your opinion.

Dude Charu Keshi has been played as a "raga" in so many recordings and live performances (including my own) - how can you say its not a Raga? Wow bias - I have found more bias in the Etwah Gharana when it comes to "their" players than any other (not from the Maestros, they are humble, but from the fans)
just wondering... do you have videos or know where to see some of Ustad Vilayat Khan in his prime?? I would love to see some. I´ve heard recordings, but don´t know if in his prime... I agree with you though. Ustad Shahid Parvez is the best SITARIST (at least from all of the great ones I´ve seen/heard), but I think many would agree that there are and have been better musicians...
He plays like Ustad Vilayat Khan in 60's, 70's & into 80's. Vilayat Khan changed his baaj three times. I loved the first two.
