Enjoyed watching the video. I stripped mine down as I had an identical leak from under the chrome cylinder cover but wasn’t sure if it was the part you replaced as I couldn’t see any hair-line cracks. I decided to take the gamble for £29 also bought from spares2 you. 2 of us put it back together (you did very well lining everything up ready for the bolts to go back in all on your own)👍 I did the test without putting the cover back on and hay presto everything worked. After. 10 minutes of using the machine the plastic elbow which fits on top of the cylinder and joins on to the cast iron elbow which fits onto the water pipe also developed a hair-line crack. I am now in the process of ordering that part and fingers crossed that should be it.

I had a rusted broken spring on internal switch in that white housing, karcher wants £50 for the whole switch assembly including mains wire and plug as they don't sell spring separately👎🤬, got some springs from a manufacturer, fitted it and it now switches on and off as it should ! 👍😃

Good amusing video. Not a problem with my K.5700. My machine simply stopped working in the middle of a project. Stripping it down - the bolt holding the ‘wobble plate’ had fractured. A £350 machine and a bolt inside breaks - that’s simply a bad component during manufacture - and just out of warranty with no redress back to Karcher. But I agree with you, why do Karcher use a hard plastic for components under stress, apart from built in obsolescence ( and a waste of resources ).

    Nice video. Thanks!
The main cause of cracks like that is the ice. Most people dont pay attention during winter, and left their Karcher filled with water. That water turns into ice, and since the ice take more space than same amount of liquid water, it ends with exactly same cracks like that in the video.
So, people, empty your machine during the freezing days!

Thank you for the video. I had the same symptoms and found out I had the same crack at the exact same place. I first replaced the triangle ring without sucess, only after that I noticed the crack. I just ordered the part. Let's hope I get as successfull as you. Like many, I left my pressure washer during winter in the garden shed without draining it first. Mr. Freeze had no mercy. Lesson learned.

Thanks - was really helpful in trying to troubleshoot my dad's K4, which he claims was 'meant' to leak and always be on (He's often stubborn about these things!).
Little plastic pump head had indeed split and spraying a jet of high pressure water around inside the unit. Seems strange they wouldn't have used a metal piece given the right angle and the high pressure directed straight into it, but the machine has had 6 years of use and Karcher parts are pretty plentiful/compatible so can't be too aggrieved.

Well done for mending your pressure washer, mines got the same problem it’s just over a year old but only used twice. I resent having to buy the parts for what is obviously a common problem. My last karcher washer had the same problem but I just chucked it out as I left it out one night when we had a slight frost, thinking it was beyond repair. I will buy the part and repair mine but never again will I buy anything from karcher.

Hello, just thought I'd left you know I watched your video on Saturday evening as I have a karcher k4 and it had started surging when in standby.
(It had been to karcher and they had said it was due to me using an extension lead....and not enough volts to the pump. To be fair to them they didn't charge me and it was ok for an hour or so)
Anyway, I took it apart and I found the big triangular O ring on the junction between the pump and the plastic cylinder head wasn't seated correctly, nipped by the lid.
I re-sat it and after reassembly, back to full pressure.
    Thank you, Laurie

Useful warning to hopefully stop someone else doing this! I did this repair successfully and left the machine standing without the front cover on. WARNING - the unit it is front heavy!! The whole unit tipped over and the thin grey T shaped spindle (see it in the video sticking out) that is connected to the mains switch unit and fits into the front On/Off switch hit the floor and snapped off. You can't seem to get these as spares so I had to buy a complete mains switch / cable assembly for £38. I considered trying to repair but it is so thin and it snapped just at the point it enters the housing. (An expensive faux pas).Quite a few bad things about the design of this unit - the least of which is the plastic PRESSURE head. (On the other hand if this wasn't plastic then the the metal housing might crack instead which would be much more expensive to replace)

    • @johnr3435
      @johnr3435 5 месяцев назад +1

@@phoenixrisinguk The one in this video had a 'massive hairline crack'. In my case it was invisible to the naked eye. Once the pump tries to build up pressure it forces water out of the crack - in my case a fine spray but enough to cause the 'hunting' and failure to build to full pressure. Pretty sure my issue was caused by not draining after use by running on with no water connected and it being stored in an unheated garage over winter. The freezing of the water then did the damage.

ive done one of these before and i can see you are struggling by putting pressure onto the top end . you dont need to put any force on it as the bolts are long enough to screw in and all you need to do is make sure the switch box as you screw the pump bolts down goes straight into the side of the motor. also the other places the k4 leaks is the elbow on the backfoot and the high pressure pipe which fastens to the top of the pump but you can buy both these pipes in alloy and they never leak again

Hi. This was the problem on my husbands pressure washer - ive replaced the part and no more leak 👍 However, im now having a problem with it maintaining maximum pressure - when operating if the hose is put to maximum pressure it works until the gun trigger is released, sounds like it's sucking air back. When the trigger is pulled again there is no pressure unless you turn the lance down to low output and then back up to maximum ( if that makes sense!). Any ideas why?

    • @randomtherapy

All sorted 👍 The problem was where the detergent end slots into the white electric box. The new part came with a rubber washer and a white stopper which the instructions indicated needed to be put on. I think the "old" white stopper was still in the hole ( i couldn't get it out and didn't want to yank it out!) so i just removed the new stopper, left the rubber washer on, put it back together and it works 😊
