- "Tyler Perry's Mea Culpa" is not good, but we had a good time watching it and an even better time reviewing it. We actually wish Perry -- as writer, director and producer -- had leaned harder into the innate cheesiness of this homage to steamy erotic thrillers of the late '80s and early '90s. Kelly Rowland stars as a defense attorney named ... Mea. When she agrees to represent a bad-boy artist (Trevante Rhodes) who's been accused of murder, she finds herself trapped in a dangerous web of seduction. Co-starring Kerry O'Malley, Sean Sagar, Nick Sagar and Angela Robinson. Streaming now on Netflix.

I need the backstory behind how and why there was a fully functional sex dungeon under his apartment? How did it get planning permission, pass building regulations? It appears that you could just walk into it too. Is it staffed? Are there emergency exists? 😂😂

In addition to improving the notoriously terrible wigs, I wish Tyler Perry would just solely be a Producer & invest actual money in good writers & directors for his studio! This is no doubt going to be yet another classic Tyler Perry 'Bad Movie Roast' from the Double Toasted guys :)
This! Which is why I'm not watching this movie. He needs to start putting his money where his mouth is and give more talented creatives the chance to flourish in an industry starved of great black talent.
@@reallycaughtnow It's frustrating when you think about all the valuable experience talented up-and-coming writers & directors could've gained but haven't cos he stubbornly insists on writing & directing everything :( I remember a video he put out a few yrs ago of the dozens & dozens of scripts he'd written that year crediting his 'work ethic' - never has the response 'quality over quantity' been more appropriate!

@@BreakfastAllDay His ego is larger than his talent and he doesn't care. There's also an element of this junk is "good enough" for my Black audience, that as a Black person, makes me livid. There are so many great stories to tell about not only the Black experience but the human experience but you'll never see one from Perry the hack.
How does he make good actors look so terrible!? Like actors that we know can do quality work are hilariously bad.

There are three types of people who watch Tyler Perry films at this point -
1) people who actually enjoy Tubi so, they think a Tyler Perry film is Oscar winning directing, producing and acting in comparison
2) People who, despite knowing that it’s going to be horrible, support Tyler as a black man who did it all on his own and is successful AF as a result and will always support the man (but not necessarily the man’s WORK) so, they tune in hoping that he’s finally going to get this one right and surprise the hell out of them)

I agree, I thought the way she was presented in the beginning as a tough as nails lawyer failed throughout the story. The way he was easily controlling her made her look dumb as hell. The Chicago reference wasn't necessary because there was nothing about this film that felt like Chicago. I think Tyler Perry was on to something until he put his thoughts to script. Excellent casting though, I will give credit to that, but the film was flat, drawn out, slow, boring, and made no sense.

This movie was ridiculous! I respect Tyler Perry, but he definitely needs to consider other writers beside only himself. I also like Kelly Rowland, but she should have had some say so during cuts due to her being the Producer. This movie was so crazy and unbelievable as it could be.

The neighbor coming in naked an Kelly running out then coming back was just unbelievable to me, an he pushes the neighbor off and she just gone, an the sex club under his loft. This movie was so weird but the twist at the end was really cool.

I am glad you two had fun watching, sadly I will not join in. I do think there is a method to Perry's madness though, especially at this point in his writing.
This was the most moronic movie I’ve ever seen. First of all there were about 10 red flags to begin with regarding her husband and his mother. The mother was freakish almost like a horror character. The interaction between Mea and the artist {can’t remember his name} was strange and he came off as a cocky sex fiend. I would have told the whole family off at the birthday dinner and ran in the opposite direction. For such a supposedly smart character, she just took it. I love Tyler Perry movies but this one was just ignorant and predictable. Bring Madea back

That movie deserves a 2/10 boring and unrealistic
well i liked, "liked" the last 20 minutes when it goes batshit crazy, the rest of it was boring where nothing happens but there is this tension the whole film and you are just waiting for it to drop. this would have been better if it was an hour - an hour and 20. TOO LONG!
Overall score 6.4, so Tyler Perry can’t even live up to his own height lol. Also, your two reviews of his films are indeed funny as hell.

The movie is bad! Kelly’s character is that of a strong intelligent black female attorney who makes rookie dumb blond impulsive moves. Besides her dope wardrobe, her character has no attorney qualities instincts or insight.

This review is hilarious and I completely agree. I think Tyler needs to hang it up or get some actual riders and that no-helmet Motorcycle scene drove me nuts 🥴🤣 all I could think about was, what if they get into an accident???

It was not good at all, but Kelly Rowland was beautiful. In the sex scene was ridiculous and demonic, she walks in and see him with another woman, and then she jump on a bite come back and do the same thing. He should’ve changed that.. and it made you look at her in a different way, even though that’s a movie. I’m just saying

It was as unrealistic and nonsensical as Fall from Grace
When it finally gets to the insane ending, it's very fun. The biggest issue for me is that the film is so bloated at almost 2 hours. It's shocking that Tyler Perry, as someone who has been making movies for almost two decades, hasn't figured out pacing this far into his career. If this were 95 minutes, it could have been great.
He hasn't figured out a lot of things after all these years, from a technical perspective, which is baffling.

But I'll try to be objective and not be overly emotional. I think I made that mistake at millers girl because I'm drawn to that sort of thing.
