Thanks for your explanation.
I am very thankful for this video! Thankyou so much I didn't know what I was going to do due to money issue thanks so much God Bless You and yours.
thank you for that......any size containers will work for that....wonderful illustration, thank you
Thanks, nicely made video, concise, detailed and well edited.
VERY NICE!!! I will make one and add it to my emergency kit!!! Thanks!!!
You could do soemthing like that, but the slow speed of filtration would hender your actual usage... Thats if you just let it fill at its base drainage rate. If you hooked up your 20lb psi line to it, you would push the water through it, and it wouldnt work correctly. It would filter the water, a little, but not in the same manor. If you want to do that, replace the sand and rocks with charcoal "Activated Carbon" and use a hypo mesh for the in and out so the dust/particles doesnt get out.
I was curious what would be better, the bio filter or the rock, pebble, sand, charcoal filter? Or a combo of the two? If a combo would the bio filter be used first and then pass it through to the rock/sand/charcoal filter or would the rock and sand kinda contaminate the water again before it gets to the charcoal ?
thanks great video
did you download the PDF from CAWST as they have removed the file? if yes can/will you post a link here?
Would you possibly be able to email the pdf? Of course now the page is taken down....they don't want us to be self-sufficient!!!
CAWST PDF link is dead but can be found here after you register resources.cawst.org/construction-manual/a90b9f50/biosand-filter-construction-manual?resLang=en
I noticed right around 8 40 minute Mark that the T peace had holes drilled through the bottom that you did not mention I did not notice how many holes were drilled I only noticed one or two so I ask you please tell me how many holes did you drill on that bottom piece and what is their purpose? Thank you and advance
thanks for sharing your info.
Thanks for the links, the cawst link is bad, but a quick google search for the file name found it quick.
Great video Good info ! Thanks for Sharing !
thanks, good job man !
How do 'good bacteria' get introduced to the system? Do you need to add probiotics on top?
You must have the filter 2 weeks with the initial water for make the biological layer.
At the end you said you said it shows concept, however does something this small still clean the water sufficiently? Or are one of the larger 55 gallon filtration systems required?
I hope the author of this project made this project only as a small scale model because in this size it cannot work properly! That crap at the end about the chlorine, ozon etc. is complete nonsense and redundant. The filter when properly made is filtering 99% of all pathogens.
For people who will try to reproduce this wrong model will ultimately fail.
The problem with this model is mainly in not stressing the FUNDAMENTAL principle of this system, the bio live layer below the diffuser. I suggest for everyone interested in this system to look at how it is done in tropics by responsible people understanding that this is not a sand filter but live biological filtration. Actually contrary what this wished to be expert claims; the dirtier the water pouring in better.
Can i use Bio Sand Filter for laundry water?
the pdf link gives a 404 error for me.
(resources.cawst.org/system/files/BSF%20PI_Construction%20Manual_2012-08_en.pdf) this one works
could this system be attached to the main water line to the house for a compleate house filtration system?
This is a sand filter commonly used in pools and spas
The only difference is this is cultivating a bio organisms at the top much like nature to help filter out bad organisms.
this set up is for hardship conditions and third world applications.
If you want a sand filter for your house? Include all features, the back wash too and include carbon in line filter
That CAWST file is no longer available. Do you still have a copy you could send me?

Does the sand add salt to the water?
no
where did you get your supplies
Lowes building supply
Thank you :o)
Yes, you can. Be sure to drink it all, waste nothing.
must bookmark
Screen your layers.
I dont know why they dont use carbon on this design as well, except possibly because the charcoal would need to be changed out way more frequently than the sand and you would want the sand above the carbon. So blah.
