Til The Right One Comes is probably my favorite Sob Rock track. It had been suspected that it was inspired by Paul Simon and I'd say this totally confirms that.
So glad I caught Paul Simon live at Outside Lands in 2019. Gotta catch these legends while we still have them. Wish I could have seen these two together . . . there is an old hour-long video of them, part of the Bailey's In Tune series. P.S. The scrod-run anecdote, nothing but New England love 🥰
Lmao, I'm sure she was having fun and that's all good. But if I did that, I prob would've purchased a plane ticket to rural Ecuador on the spot and never been seen or heard from again.
Well, the lucky in love call themselves winners And losers are sinners who have gone astray As if I woke up lonely one morning Looked around and decided I would stay that way, oh You knock me down and you call me crazy You say I'm never gonna love someone Give it time now and you might find maybe, I Prove you wrong when the right one comes Won't be long 'til the right one comes And I know people Broke down and defeated Lost what they needed in some miserable war So forgive me if I might look around for a minute Before jumping right in it, I just want to be sure Some people 'round here been calling me crazy Some people say I'll never love someone That's alright, give it time and maybe, I Prove you wrong when the right one comes Won't be long 'til the right one comes 'til the right one comes Now I'm lying in my bed End of a long day Headed the wrong way down that highway of dreams When you're a little unsure of what you're headed for The end of the road ain't as close as it seems Some people 'round here been calling me crazy Must be something he's been running from Stick around now and you might find maybe, I Prove you wrong when the right one comes Won't be long 'til the right one comes 'Til the right one comes 'Til the right one comes Who's that knocking at my door? Fellow guitar players help me out. What are those chords he’s playing?! I wanna play it like this so badly I can’t figure this one out. I got some of it but not all.
Sounds like key of E, sticking with the typical I-V-VI-IV chords. You Call Me Al is in F but he’s dropped it down a half step to fit it in. Hope this helps!
He's tuned down a 1/2 step. The chord progression for the intro and the chorus is E (C#m), B, A, E* (based on position on the neck, don't forget to tune down 1/2 step!). If you're playing alone I'd use C#m. In the video he's playing the first version I've typed out below, but he obviously has accompaniment. (C#m is the relative minor of E). E (X 11 9 9 9 X) or C#m (9 X 11 9 9 X) B (7 X 9 8 7 X) A (5 X 7 6 5 X) E* (0 X 6 4 5 X) His thumb is playing the low E string. You can play this as bar and open chords as well, but it won't sound as good. The chord progression for the verse is: E, A, E, A, E, B E, A, E, A, E, B, E* A in the verse (X X 11 9 10 X) He adds variations, especially on the first E chord. For example, he will add his thumb on 9th fret during the chorus. You'll also see him use his little finger to play the 12th fret on the B string at times during the verse (X 11 9 9 12 X). Hope that helps!
Went to see John last week and it was great except that I expect to hear his music and not cover songs, especially from an album I never liked (Graceland), influence or not… when he has so many great songs I love, #sorrynotsorry
@@PaxsonRussell don't be a denialist of truth just because you like an artist. His record of failed personal relationships and the many, many people on record (including him) saying he's a douche suggest he might well be one, albeit he seems to have become a better character in recent years. A great artist, many great artists are flawed people. It is what it is.

I don't get as much of a "douche" vibe from him as the same vibe I get from Bill Maher, that marriage and relationships are traps, i.w. "fear of commitment". He's got a great life; maybe he figures "why mess it up with relationship drama?"
I picked the right morning to randomly search for "You Can Call Me Al" covers.
Same
John Mayer has in my opinion gone from genius song writer ang guitarplayer, into the land of spiritanimals.
That keyboard player, Greg, was a keyboardist for Paul Simon. Pretty sick.
John's stealing all the 80's session/touring musicians lol. Love this song.
Greg Philinganes list of credits are in fact, ridiculous.
He also played keyboards for Michael Jackson on nearly of all his albums.
If there's a good record from the 80s, Greg is on it.
pretty dang dope my dudeee! some super sick vibes bro

Same!!
Its a great song.. with great lyrics
and Tom Petty!!
I can also hear Graceland and Diamond on the Soles of Her Shoes too
Yeah it's definitely one of John's Paul Simon inspired songs... Reminds me a bit of Late in the Evening too
wow, bob saget silhuet at the backgroung 3:04. Beautiful john
I don't know what is this, but it could describe a lot of my loving cartoon's. Its always been my best.
@@bojangledead4690 you can see there is a House shaped forehead on the face. Full House.
The crowd sings so beautifully with him every song every show. I love the humanity and atmosphere.
This song will mark 2021 for me on a very specific level concerning a road trip to see my daughter 700 miles away.
Til The Right One Comes is objectively a perfect song. You can dance to it, you can party to it, you can relax to it and you can make love to it.
the four criteria of music
Unfortunate turn of phrase with the last example
*John releases Til The Right One Comes*
Everyone: That's very obviously a Paul Simon tribute.
John: Yes. And?
I just realized he put Bob Saget in the neon lights in the back to pay homage, he’s so nice man
The transition was really smooth
I'm so pleased you uploaded a video that includes the subtle tribute to Bob Saget!!
I always thought it was a matter of time before Mayer covered this. Simons right in his vocal range and genre.
I’d pay good money to see a John Mayer concert where he covers the entire Graceland album.
Me tooooo, Graceland is the single greatest album of all time
I love when the crowd is the background choir
Thank you for posting this! Great quality!
John Mayer is so good at guitar
love the quality dude
Thank you for recording dude♡
so goooood!
I love this song!
Love John

John made the best choice to have Greg in the band
Well, the lucky in love call themselves winners
And losers are sinners who have gone astray
As if I woke up lonely one morning
Looked around and decided I would stay that way, oh
You knock me down and you call me crazy
You say I'm never gonna love someone
Give it time now and you might find maybe, I
Prove you wrong when the right one comes
Won't be long 'til the right one comes
And I know people
Broke down and defeated
Lost what they needed in some miserable war
So forgive me if I might look around for a minute
Before jumping right in it, I just want to be sure
Some people 'round here been calling me crazy
Some people say I'll never love someone
That's alright, give it time and maybe, I
Prove you wrong when the right one comes
Won't be long 'til the right one comes
'til the right one comes
Now I'm lying in my bed
End of a long day
Headed the wrong way down that highway of dreams
When you're a little unsure of what you're headed for
The end of the road ain't as close as it seems
Some people 'round here been calling me crazy
Must be something he's been running from
Stick around now and you might find maybe, I
Prove you wrong when the right one comes
Won't be long 'til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
Who's that knocking at my door? (Right one comes)
Is it someone I've been looking for? (Right one comes)
And who's that throwing arms around me? (Right one comes)
And telling me she finally found me (right one comes)
'Til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
'Til the right one comes
A man walks down the street
He says, "Why am I soft in the middle, now?
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard"

Dogs in the moonlight
Far away in my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly

You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
Is that a light up of Bob Saget? 😢
