Jonas nailed it. I bought my prostaff 14 and it for sure needed the tiniest of lead tape at 10 and 2 o'clock...like 0.6g in total made all the difference! bolted the racket like a lightning rod and groundstrokes became rock solid. Super easy to play at the net too.
Today I finally saw it in the store and I have to say it looks amazing! I have original black RF and v13 (made for Roger himself :) ) and this is right up there look-wise. Bronze colour suits it perfectly! 😍
I think the V14 is the best PS since the ncode 6.1. I strung it with full gut at 58# and with Technifibre Black code at 50# and it both played beautifully. Great power on demand, good control, smallish sweet spot but big enough if you have good footwork. Decent but not great spin and I love it up at the net. The best all court frame I have tried in years.
As a player who is usually more of an aggressive baseliner, I was shocked how much I loved this frame. I demoed it next to the ezone 98 tour and was surprised to find that though on paper the Yonex would suit my game more I much preferred the Pro Staff 97. I found I could swing without fear of sending it long even when I flattened out my shots which I could not say for the ezone for instance. But as you said, what made me love this racquet is that it is so tidy at the net and so controlled that it begs for you to come to the net and close out points. I found it made me play more all-court and honestly that made me a more effective player.
I picked up a shift 99 315 and First Impressions it’s a good racquet. However, with that said it takes a long time to get used to, I have made so much progress in my game a with my current 16x19 frame at moment not ready for a switcheroo but if you like to take modern swings with a lot of hip action, it can be a special frame. To me it’s like a super charged blade with that clash like softness (but not too noodly). I actually played my last league season using a Clash Pro because my arm pain was so bad. That racquet was surprisingly good for hitting big spin, but you could not be off with your technique or swing speed because it was too powerful at times. i play a lot more loopier balls nowdays, so my Prince ATS Tour 98 is better for that, but if I could get used to the launch angle in more time, I like the free controlled power off the shift 315 better.
See whether you can comparing the Pro Staff X with the new v14 Six One 100 in the future. I have a feeling the Six One may respond better than the PS X.
Hi Jonas, how does the PS 97 V14 plays compare to PS 97 V11 (w/o CV). I am thinking to switch here. I think you have play tested both. Thanks. Very much appreciated. Greetings from Germany
I don't understand why they put the 16x19 in a 100 sq. head. Ofc it sprays more unpredictable. Would've been way more interesting to see an 18x20 or at least 16x20 in there... ;) Otherwise it seems the racquet has some qc issues, some ppl say it's very direct and has better feel, while u say the other way around... and who pays 300 $/EUR for this thing, like for real?
Based on your comments, it seems that the X 100 is a bit like my Babolat Pure Strike 100. I had to add quite a bit of weight but I got a pretty good pop and control for a 100. Will want to try that new Pro Staff for sure but I think the Blade is Wilson’s best stick for advanced players.
The new Yonex Percept is almost identical in terms of specs, the only noticeable spec being different is the flexibility. Given that, I wonder if they play almost identical?? I’ve always wondered this with different brands but similar specs. Any thoughts?
@@Tennisnerd For sure and that probably helps to make the Gravity better. Just saying that it's a heavy 100...not many of those around...300g is kind of the range for 100" head
I do like the design of the Pro Staff V13 more but brown is at least something that you don't see often. 👍 Please compare the new Pro Staff V14 with other rackets from other brands (Head Prestige, Yonex VCore Pro and Pro Kennex Black Ace). 🙏
Hey Jonas, Do you know if the new Pro Staff V14 actually has a swingweight of 332, which is what the specs at Tennis Warehouse say? because in all the reviews on You Tube testing the racket they talk about that swingweight, but about a 322, more similar to the V13. It's really disappointing because in my opinion a SW of 332 would make this a great racquet for very aggressive players, especially since it seems Wilson is no longer selling the RF 97 Autograph. greetings.
Clearly wilson still has quality control issues, so if you buy one it might have either swing weight (or somewhere in between of course). If you want a heavier spec, use the racket matching service at TW
Hmmm I wish they could make a 98 or 99 version. Jonas your one handed back hand has been better in the past, in this video you can see your left hand is finishing by your left side which you did not use to do, it should be flaring out stretching your chest to help keep you sideways.
I'm really enjoying the X version, even more than my Radical MP, the extra weight makes for more effortless power and their is more touch and feel than the Radical or my former Pure Aero
This is Exactly what happen to all new modern Racquets companies. They make them more Comfortable, too SOFT, Muted, NO FEEL and NO POP. I hate it, I am NOT a fan of that crappy strategy to sell more. I always prefer older racquets around 2009 to 2016 years, they made BEST racquets Ever.
Interesting specs you have for the X. I bought 3 direct from Wilson Europe and all were within 1g and 0.1cm balance and 1SW pt (320, 320, 319 SW). Totally agree with the review of the X though. It feels like a racket that is much lighter despite the weight (340g strung with a leather base) and the response is tough to predict. Looking forward to the full review after you give it some @tennisnerd tweaks to see if you can make it a beast. I think it has potential… Any tips from other users appreciated
Amazing review as always. How do you compare the pro staff X to the Vcore Pro 100? (My current racquet). I love my racquet but I am looking for something that gives me a little bit more plow through without losing the comfort and control level. Is the PS X what I am looking for?
is this racket stiff? do you feel vibration when hitting the ball so much? i have wilson blx prostaff 6.1 95, it vibrate so much when i hit the ball. how is the vibration in this racket compare to blx prostaff 6.1 95?
Im glad that Tennisnerd was able to confirm this confusing feeling I had on how these racquets were to be played. Cosmetics 10/10 but enjoyment of playability is a 6/10
Hi Jonas. I use the 97 v13, both my frames are around 295 SW and 316g unstrung. I string them with Wilson natural gut in the mains and ALU power rough in the crosses, and use an aftermarket leather grip - I’m around a 4.5 level (8 UTR). I am demoing the v14 right now, but without any knowledge of the spec I received it’s hard to decide whether to switch. Additionally, I am having trouble attributing differences to the strings, because the v14 demo came with a (family loose) full bed of poly. As an avid play tester, do you have any suggestions?
Hi Jason: I worked with you to get a Prince Tour 100. (textreme, pre-ATS) I took these 2 out and demoed them. My impression was that Pro Staff 97 v14 was fantastic for flat shots (absolute gun) and my hitting partner said the same. But trying to hit more spinny shots, or being more careful during points was harder. But it had a hell of a slice. Same with 1 handed backhand; you can crush it but during the game, will you want to hit it that flat is the question. The X like you said was great at servers (spin and flat) but I agree that sometimes it took off a little. It returns amazing, but sometimes during doubles rallies it was hard to knife the ball and be precise. Bit more powerful, but not as fast for ground strokes (I found myself being late); luckily the power makes up for it. Like you, I would have to string it up quite tighter to dial the X in. Easy to use, but it was hard to unload and be precise. X did leave me wanting a bit more precision at times.
I playtested the 97 last week (ruclips.net/video/hHWomK8jfWI/видео.html) and I have to say I enjoyed the new flexing. I tested it directly against the RF97 v13, which I played a lot, and the new flexing and general feel of the PS97 v14 is attractive to me. It's supposed to be like the early Pro Staffs. So I actually like v14 more than v13, or maybe I like them the same, because v13 was actually pretty sick as well.
So Wilson has given us two 100sqi Pro Staffs, but no mid sized Pro Staff. Where's the logic in that? The Pro Staff line is all about feel and control. A large 100 sqi frame works against that as this video has shown.
Makes you wonder who would buy a Pro Staff? - expensive, but nothing new and facing a great number of better rackets which a lot of people would choose.
Well...I will tell u who would buy a pro-staff! Me! I have 4 of them now and I be darn if I am gonna change sticks the way I change my drawers! I am over 60 and I can hang with u young whippersnappers who love to take the cover off the ball for no other reason than you can! But you send it near me and it is coming back at you! Again...and again...and again! Point.. Game...set...match! And I hardly broke a sweat! Just like my boy Fed! I'm ideally suited for that stick! And, it is ideally suited for me. Yep! Stop wondering! I'm the one who has bought and will keep my pro staffs hot and poppin!
Wilson's latest paint jobs are honestly horrendous. The shift looks really clean, but the blade, pro staff, and the triad. Clash still looks good, but the rest of them just hurt to look at.
I guess whoever buys the 97 sq inch will have it painted all-black! Noone seems to like the new cosmetics that seems to be a result of someone's lost bet...
Black paint with copper detail hits would be sick
Been playing with the pro staff x for a month . Feel like it's really jumped my level up a notch.. a must try if you enjoy first strike tennis ..
I dont care what anyone says i love the cosmetic. and im excited for mine to arrive so i can finally play with it for myself.

The comp for the ProStaff X is the Gravity Pro. Not many 100" heads at 315g. Gravity Pro is better.
The Gravity Pro has an 18x20, which makes a significant difference in control here

Will you review the Wilson 6.1 95 v14? Believe you have to buy it directly from Wilson.
I also think I’d prefer the v13s that I have based on what you said here. Great review ! Any plans to do the new burn ?
Yeah, I can do the new Burn at some point!
It's an Ultra 100 with a different paint job... lol
how the x version differs from the team version (v13)? thanks

Hmmm I wish they could make a 98 or 99 version. Jonas your one handed back hand has been better in the past, in this video you can see your left hand is finishing by your left side which you did not use to do, it should be flaring out stretching your chest to help keep you sideways.

How does this racket feel with ground strokes?
@@_KirbE A nice feel to groundstrokes, softer feel but still good depth. For me I can really hit out with a surprising amount of spin for a Pro Staff.
I will not replace my Wilson Pro Staff RF97 Autograph v13.0 for this The RF 97 is best racket for control and feel In fact I am also teaching tennis
Did you try ProStaff 97 V14 just for comparision?
Hey Jonas, would these be comparable to the Head Prestige line (can't find the gravity tour in my region)? If so any preference, pros/cons?

I love the color, has to be the sexiest looking racquets along with the Blade and Ultra.
How is the stiffness compared between the V13 and V14 PS97?
v14 is a little more comfortable and muted but still a stiff racket
is this racket stiff? do you feel vibration when hitting the ball so much? i have wilson blx prostaff 6.1 95, it vibrate so much when i hit the ball. how is the vibration in this racket compare to blx prostaff 6.1 95?
