  • In our last study, Jesus summons “those whom He Himself wanted” up to a mountain where He appointed the twelve Apostles. We should note the makeup of the group He chose; first and most obviously, they were twelve men whose job was to be in authority over the followers of Christ. Christ does not depart from God in any way; this has been God’s divine order from the start and will always be what He orders. Secondly, the Apostles were regular men, not part of the religious or political “elite,” except Paul. I don’t make this statement to shun Biblical education; I make it to point out that that does not qualify a person to be an Apostle nor to take up any office available to them in the church. Those who were called needed first to “be with Him” in preparation to be sent. Today, those called need to learn from Him in preparation for being sent. We learn by studying the Word.
Today, we will pick up in verse 20.
