I needed a remote controller because my Hass box is hidden away in the basement mechanical room, so I found a circa 2015 raspberry pi in a box of parts and used it for a wired Zigbee2MQTT installation on the main floor. The adapter is a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus Gateway (not sure if this was available when you made this video last year). Installation was simple, and the pairing works well too. Next, I need to add a repeater or two to beef up signal strength for the outlying devices. Thanks for the great tutorial!
I have the ConBee II Zigbee controller (just got on Saturday 23-Apr-22 // I have plugged into my HA - and installed the deCONZ add-on and Integration (it appears that the firmware was updated too via the Phoscan-GW option available after I installed the add-on). Does this matter? I do not currently have a large number of Zigbee devices (just some temp/humidity sensors - BATTERY) - which do you think would be the best way to get them into HA ??
Do I still need to flash the firmware for the sonoff dongle? I see a bunch of video doing that, but I got it working with zigbee2mqtt out of the box, no flashing needed.
great video, I learned a lot! i started my zigbee journey adding a conbeeII stick and deconz about a month ago, all to see if i could use this blueprint... deconz ikea five button remote for lights with color temp to dim and change color temp on my color led bulbs throughout my house with these switches... tradfri remote control 00443130 and I'm happy to say, it all just works! now if only I could get some help from one of the best HA coders I have seen on youtube ;-), or anyone else, to help me figure out how to make that blueprint do one more thing.... it should fade in when I turn the light on and off. there were a bunch of transition variables in the blueprint which I have used with my lights in node red automations, but the transition for event 1002, which I am pretty sure is the toggle light service doesn't work, (nor do any of the other 10 transition variables) so I was lost pretty quick, since I am not a programmer. I also have a separate HA instance running for another project with some aqara water leak and temp / humidity sensors, aquara little square button and a sonoff s31 smart plug all using the sonoff bridge flashed with tazmota on ZHA, and so far that is working great too, although updates seem slower for sure. subbed!
Hi, I am currently using Raspberry Pi 4 to run Home Assistant in my house, I have integrated several Tuya WiFi-based devices with Home Assistant. I have a question about Zigbee, do I need to have Zigbee Hub to connect Tuya Zigbee-based devices to Home Assistant (Zigbee Home Assistant-ZHA)? Thanks, looking forward to your reply.
@@SlackerLabsso by using Zigbee Hub (Tuya), I can connect the hub to Home Assistant then connect my Zigbee-based tuya devices without adding the hub and tuya devices to TuyaSmart application?
@@muhammadrizalrizkynaufal4559 I dont think you can. But honestly, I am just now starting to play with Tuya devices. So far I have the Wifi ones. But I do not think the Tuya hub can connect to Home Assistant. You may be able to connect it to the Tuya cloud, and then get them into HA via the Tuya integration. But I would be surprised if you could connect the Tuya hub directly to Home Assistant. At least not without Flashing it. And even then I am not sure. I am just trying to get my first Tuya smart life device integrated as I type this.
I'm currently using a ZHA solution for about 15 devices. However after having to run around re=syncing devices 2 days in a row, I'm beginning to like the idea of the Zig2MQTT setup that leaves the network intact even if the HA platform goes away. I already have enough other plans for MQTT that I'm seriously considering setting up a stand alone server to act as the broker for more than just HA. (Server management comes t mind.
Aqara devices have been unstable on my setup. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with another manufacturer. If I install any more Zigbee devices, they won't be from Aqara.

@@SlackerLabs Yes with deconz you can only use their coordicators, but its a rock solid platform and comparable to z2m and zha. so should have been included. I’m running zigbee2mqtt these days. That was my solution up until a couple months ago where I tried to switch to ZHA with the sonoff bridge. Had issues moved back and that started down a period of switch back and forth between the two trying to get ZHA to work for me. Now. Just sticking with zogbee2mqtt
@@SlackerLabs So you are using your Sonoff Tasmota Zigbee bridge with Zigbee2mqtt? I know that is possible but it requires some change to the setup right? Any chance you would do a video on this? Again thanks for your great videos!
Even 3 years later, this video came in great handy. Thanks for posting!

I think I grabbed that sonoff one after the video to try out. Now I’m not sure I actually did. Haha
Thanks so much for filling in the details exactingly while keeping it basic enough for us noobs! TI 2531 now working well - nice 1 :)
Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Keep up great work.

Yes. You will need a zigbee hub. Either a standalone or a usb stick that runs off your Pi.

How nice would it be if you could use the samsung smartthings hub local direct from HA like broadlink rm pro !

I have had issues with some of them as well. Although after adding a dedicated zigbee router things appear to be more stable.

Yep. I didn’t mention deconz. I think you are limited on which coordinator you can used. But honestly I don’t have any experience with deconz.

Right on. I have pretty much gone to music for titles.
turn the fecking music off might be able to follow then
