  • The resort of Taos Ski Valley is better known for it's world class skiing, but beneath the snow lies many surprises. Full of great dirt and unique terrain, find out why this place could be some of the best mountain bike riding in the entire state of New Mexico.

Okay so I think it is unfair to say that the trails are lacking maintenance because when I rode them a few months ago I saw active raking of loose material - on the BLUE TRAILS. this is important. the character of the soil on those exposed trails is such that they are always going to be gravelly and loose. however, the VERY few advanced trails are cut in amongst the trees and are delightful. If Taos Ski Valley corporation wants to get MTB money, they would do well to cater to the technical steep terrain and provide something like BC slabs and interesting forest features, like what is shown in this video. There is potential there for sure. Also I have to comment: If Taos priced themselves at a quarter of what Angel Fire lift tickets go for, it would be worth a day's visit. As of now it's a complete ripoff compared to their competition

I couldn’t have said it better myself. The tech and the slabs are the the best thing here and definitely could draw in wayy more advanced riders. The 50$ lift ticket for 8 trails vs 70$ for over 30 trails at AF does make it a tough visit to Taos. 3 more tech trails, tickets at like 40-45$ would draw in a lot more people than what currently visits. Also not to mention the complete shut down of the mountain the moment the leaves start to pop and people show up wanting to ride the lifts but there is 0 things open to do. Has potential, needs work. Appreciate your comment on the post!

Worst bike park I've been to. I agree with everything you said. The potential is there. But it needs more time, (years) more intention and more rider input.

Yes, yes, yes. More intention and rider input would transform this mountain. Hopefully they’ll start making some efforts for that soon.
