Building My Most Thclacky Handwired Mechanical Keyboard Yet…

- This is my most recent build, the ScottoLong. It uses Akko Lavender Purple switches lubed with Krytox 205G0. As for the spacebar, I used a lubed Holy Panda. The keycaps are Drop MT3 Captain America that I managed to snag for $25 on a sale.
This is my first build to use a Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040) which has a lot more flash than my normally used Arduino Pro Micro. I plan on using this board going forward.

Hope you all enjoy this one, I put quite a bit of work into it and feel it's one of my better videos. Let me know what you think!
Great work, good looking keyboard, and you can tell some work has gone in to making this video.
Quality of the video is definitely high, I'm impressed with how many things you do well!
Why havent you blown up yet, your videos are absolute top tier..
Can you do a walk through of your keymap? Would love to see how you made use of such minimalist keys :)
Great build video!!
Glad you liked it 🙂
I really hope a big brand makes something like this, would make it way more accessible. unfortunately where i live 3d printers are hard to find for non-business use. anyway a super nice build!
One day that is my goal.
When opening kaihl style switches, i really reccomend using tweezers and slowly lifting up a side and then the other, while pointing down the stem (or the spring will just jump out, probably)
Thclacky longboii, banger video.
Very cool 😱
Glad you like it :)
How does this only have 70 likes?
very thclacky board indeed.
Hey, what did you use as firmware for the raspbi? Does QMK also work with it?
Just QMK. They added support somewhat recently
@@joe_scotto Awesome, I'll eventually have to try it myself then. Thanks for the quick answer!
The only thing to be aware of is that I think OLEDs have limited support but I’m not certain. Everything else seems fine so far though.
@@joe_scotto Good to know! I'm not currently using my OLEDs that much though, so it might not be a big deal.
HI !
Excuse me. When I QMK Flash RP 2040, I receive report :
"Copying handwired_jscotto_scottolong_default.uf2 to qmk_firmware folder [OK]
(Firmware size check does not yet support RP2040; skipping)"
I don't know where I went wrong. thanks !
Hi, I just logged in to reply. That just means that usually for say a pro micro with limited storage for the compiled firmware it confirms if the firmware size is under that limit. In case of kb2040 that constraint varies a lot depending on your exact mcu so it doesn't perform that check. If it compiles fine, this is nothing to worry about. Cheers and happy keyboarding!
How tedious would it be to make this bluetooth with a Nice!Nano?
You would have to code the firmware with ZMK but other than that… probably not too difficult. The nano should fit for the most part in the cutout on the case since it’s just glued in. The battery could mount somewhere else inside because they’re normally really thin.
How did you get the stabilizer wire installed?
After I put the housings on I mounted it from the underside
@@joe_scottoThanks man. I was having trouble getting my 3d printed plate to be sturdy with those gaping gaps from a 7u spacebar. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks again!
Why didn't you stagger the rows ? Just wondering out loud?
Wanted it to be like a little brick
What gauge wire were you using?
16g
You use an ethernet cable for the wires? So technically you can use literally any wire for handwiring a keyboard?
Yeah, you can use any wire but I find Ethernet cable is the most cost effective and it is more flexible.
