I just built a GMK67 from Aliexpress - with Leobog Greywood V4 linear switches and a set of double shot PBT clone keycaps, and after all taxes and customs, it came in at exactly $72.05. It's true about the stabilizers, they could use some work, but I haven't done any mods to it and it sounds better than in the video. Zuoya have started adding a layer of plastic film behind the PCB, and if you leave it there and just punch the switches into it (or pre-punch some holes like I did), it's basically a built in tape mod. I honestly don't see how modding would improve this sound (except the loudness, the Greywoods are loud). Also - what is the issue with the software? I have compared it to VIA and the others and if you have just one keyboard, like most people, and don't need to record dozens of layouts and setupos on a single machine, it does pretty much everything they do, with a good UI and layout.

This was the first "barebones" I bought (after tearing apart several cheap mechs). I've since bought several barebone kids (both expensive and cheap, like this) and I keep coming back to how much value you get for the price. Is it lightweight and cheap? Does it feel cheaper than it looks? Does the software suck? Yes...across the board...but, as you showed, a little bit of modding and you have a surprisingly good plastic mech. I have 3 with various degrees of modding and they're often the ones I show to people to give them an idea of how cheap you can get into the hobby. Thanks for sharing this...as much as it surely pained you to do so!

You can usually only get the Black or white for $22 on the SuperDeals, I've never seen the other colors below around $35. I've built 4 of these so far and all had some plastic between the PCB and foam which I left after poking hole through. I did have to lube the stabs and one I did the tempest mod but didn't need to as it sounded great without it. With Morandi or Milky Yellows it's quite and deep but with say Cream Blue Pros it's very poppy. Super fun builds for cheap, glad you finally built one out as well.

@@someonewrites9657 Hipyo could probably shed more light than I can but I wouldn't think the thin layer of plastic would effect the stabs because it would be below where they are mounted. I guess technically it could but I would guess the rattle is coming from them not fitting tightly. While I haven't had that issue on this board I have had a few others were they just didn't fit snugly and that caused a rattle even if lubed properly. I believe you can get film that will fit in between and help that but I haven't used it. I just bought some better stabilizers I found on sale somewhere.
I built a gmk67 not too long ago and it’s become one of my go to boards. I went way of durok t1 switches and polycap code Keycaps(wonder where I heard about those, thank you Hipyo) for a full black/green keyboard to match my desk which bumped the price up a little bit but I Couldn’t be happier with the result
I was inspired by this build and built my first keyboard with gmk87 barebone, akko rosewood switch and womier keycaps… so thocky. I only used like 70$ using Vouchers and im so proud of it
Did my first (and only) keyboard build with the GMK67, with Gateron Milky Yellow Pros and some nice pbt xda keycaps. Did a three layer tape mod, and honestly, really happy with, even did a sound test on my RUclips 💪🏼
I've build 2 budget keyboard from AliExpress, one using a Tester68, which wireless-only, uses AAA batteries and doesn't have LED, and one with a Tester84, which is only wired, but has RGB and comes with greased stabilizers, foam and is made partly in aluminium. Once you mod them, they're both great choice, especially the TES84, and I don't see much point in spending hundreds more when I feel like each improvements is so small. (Shame on me, my main keyboard is still a RK84 Limited Edition with Yellow switches, it feels so smooth and I think it sounds amazing for the price)
just started getting into mechanical keyboards and decided to bought this one as my first one just to test out the waters and see if i'll be patient enough to lube all the switches to make it decent. Ordered myself KTT Kang White V3 and Gateron Milky Yellow Pro, 2 different keycaps, one xda and one cherry profile, everything should be here within a week so we'll see how it works. I might ship it to my buddy and order myself some alu kit even tho i prefer creamy/thocky sound and don't plan on going super expensive for my main keyboard next time. Glad this one is turning out to be a good choice for 1st custom board
After seeing this video, I decided to get myself a GMK67 to replace my "old" crappy RK61 (non-swappable brown). Then I saw the MonsGeek MG108W and I decided to build one for my SO. Then I saw the CIY TESTER84 and I thougth... This could replace my main keyboard! So I got myself one. Then I saw the super cheap CIY TESTER68 and I didn't need it AT ALL so I ordered one without hesitation. Then I realised: I need switch, keycaps and modding material! I don't know anything about switch so I ordered way to much of everything, 4 sets of keycaps, some lube, foam and kneaded erasers because why not. Then I realised I was going bankrupt but at least I'd bankrupt in a thock.
This review and the comments are so lukewarm about this board but I've had it for months now and I absolutely love it. I didn't mod it, didn't feel a need to (I have Bobagums in it for those curious) and its pretty damn quiet (which is also exactly what I wanted). I cannot FATHOM what a keyboard would have to be or do to justify $100+ when this keyboard exists. I mean, I get that the form factor might not be to some people's preference but if you're looking for a 65%, by comparison to the GMK67, any other keyboard is just a rip off.
I wholeheartedly agree with you! I lubed the stabs and did the tempest tape mod and I can't justify buying anything more expensive with how great this is! I think I will buy a second (black, my first is white) where I will put some nice linear switches (I have baby kangaroos in the first one and love them!) if I want to get a different feel for typing every once in a while.
This keyboard used to be the budget meta in Vietnam because how cheap and good it is. That being said I think you should try the Monka 3067 and/or 3075 next. They are cheap~ish and some 3075 model have a screen. Their switches is actually pretty decent from what I tried.
@@metameow1 I ended up using KTT White V3s instead of the Reddragon Blacks. Those were a little more expensive but definately worth the price! The Keycaps were Pudding clones by mageek for around 6-7$
I'll give you one reason why these low budget keyboards are so popular. In countries like Brazil (where i live), a standart custom keyboard can cost up to "R$ 900" (Brazil's currency "reais") because of taxes and because our currency is devalued (which would be like paying US$ 900 for that same keyboard). Imagine that everything you wanna buy from outside the country costs 5x more, plus all the abusive taxes we have to deal with (which can go up to 92% of the product's price), thats why a US$ 30 custom keyboard is so appealing to us.
I got this for $35, Akko V3 Fairy Silent for $22 for 90 switches and the Akko BOW PBT doubleshot for $14. Really decent choice for anyone to dip into the hobby.
i got a GMK67 as my first custom and i freaking love it, i recomend the Princess MMD Tactile Switches for anyone who realy likes the tactility, like me, they feel and sound great
The GMK67 is a sleeper of a keyboard. I def recommed it. the only mods i did was the tape mod and replaced the stabs for screw in ones from kbdfans. Slapped in some gateron quins and threw in a Dyesub PBT keycap set and the keyboard is so good for the price.
Made a purple multi color pastel PBT caps version with lubed screw stabs, tape mod and Akko yellow cream pros and ya. I have to admit it's pretty nice so I gave it to my daughter.
Definitely want to see videos on the aliexpress keyboards. I imagine there'll be crap, but the question is if you can find any gold among the dirt, and any good mods for them too.
I've used temu, and upgraded a 3 pin hotswap keyboard with ONLY using switches, keycaps, and lube from temu. Apparently, it sounded amazing, and I plan to try to get more of the free stuff.
I have been in the keyboard scene for about a yearbor so, built like 5 custom keyboards, but I still don't understand why british people shouldn't look when there is a knob in a video
My build was the white gmk67 for $43, 90 CIY Asura switches for $24, and some Cotton Candy Theme Pbt key caps i see pop up on the SuperBuy section that I got for $12. Total came to $79 CAD or 57 USD. The CIY Asura are kind of loud but they have such a heavy satisfying bump.
New Editor is fine: There is a slight difference in the comedic timing of the cuts, but the only reason I noticed that is because you said it was a new editor and I was paying attention ... I wouldn't say this was better than your self-editing, but it also wasn't worse (which I guess is exactly what you want, if you are looking for someone to help you edit, without changing the tone of your content).
I believe this is the cheapest keyboard on Aliexpress (nothing cheaper is worth it). I'm using it with Akko Air, and I don't feel the need to lubricate the switches. My keyboard is stock and I believe it is only necessary to modify the stabilizers.
old video, but anyone complaining about the title. if you GENUINELY THINK someone could build an ENTIRE COMPLETED KEYBOARD FOR $30. you deserve to be upset about the title. he built (keycaps and switches) ONTO a $30 keyboard. i see genuinely nothing wrong with the title
@hipyotech I have the best idea for new content. Use thing you already have at home like a mousepad or a blanket as a modding foam, etc. separate them to section (modding, switch sound, keycap modding, lubing replacements) and rate all of them from 1/10 and then put the best one together and see if everything together will sound like HEAVEN. (Don’t mess everything up please)
I've never seen it as cheap as 22$ but I have built 3 of these now and tbh it's my favorite budget board atm. Nylon jwk switches and some thick keycaps makes this thing about as low pitched and creamy sounding as you can get.
If you want basically the same board here already built the Epomaker EK68 is a good choice. I have it with the Gateron Yellows and it sounds almost exactly like the build in this video.
I bought this keyboard but from Amazon cause I couldn't wait. I really like it the sound and feel of it, but it turns out I really need the F row. Also with south facing led's don't light up my key caps!
As someone who has learned the hard way why you don’t tape mod a wireless keyboard, especially with masking tape. I was yelling the second I saw the blue tape.
I have a challenge for you: try to build a custom iso de layout keyboard, but it can`t just be an all white or all black keyboard, it should be something a bit different
, I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I ordered the barebone kit because I already have lots of switches and keycaps. Euro 29,00 with free delivery. I wish there were such options when I started this hobby 😥

I got this keyboard like 3 months ago and didn’t think it was possible to open it up. Thanks for showing us how lol
This is a hit here in Brazil. Looks like a great value. Bought mine yesterday.
Tô ansioso pro meu chegar!
300% taxes so not so there goes the value
I built a gmk67 not too long ago and it’s become one of my go to boards. I went way of durok t1 switches and polycap code Keycaps(wonder where I heard about those, thank you Hipyo) for a full black/green keyboard to match my desk which bumped the price up a little bit but I Couldn’t be happier with the result
I was inspired by this build and built my first keyboard with gmk87 barebone, akko rosewood switch and womier keycaps… so thocky. I only used like 70$ using Vouchers and im so proud of it
7:05 Can't believe we got a Tom Scott cameo in a Hipyo video
Did my first (and only) keyboard build with the GMK67, with Gateron Milky Yellow Pros and some nice pbt xda keycaps. Did a three layer tape mod, and honestly, really happy with, even did a sound test on my RUclips 💪🏼
You made me start playing runescape
Wow, love this keeb. The fact that its only from aliexpress is wild, buying rn
Did you buy it
just started getting into mechanical keyboards and decided to bought this one as my first one just to test out the waters and see if i'll be patient enough to lube all the switches to make it decent.
The Milky Yellow Pro are factory lubed you can save yourself some patience for the KTT Kang ;)
eh, lubing them makes a massive difference tbh, already have them and did it@@TheRealFlott
You’ve hit thock bottom, my fren
Oh, a bad case of impulse buying.
Split it and the price will skyrocket because most people don't have control of their both limbs at the same time
This keyboard used to be the budget meta in Vietnam because how cheap and good it is. That being said I think you should try the Monka 3067 and/or 3075 next. They are cheap~ish and some 3075 model have a screen. Their switches is actually pretty decent from what I tried.
I bought 2 of these barebones from their 11:11 sale hoping all the layers would actually be there and of decent quality
Same
Nice knob, Hipyo
So fancy!
You finally did it 🎉🎉🎉 thank you for this, this is an ode for the budget gang 🤙
How can you afford a computer
Just got it for 30€ plus another 10 for Keycaps and Switches. I'm excited! My first build.
10€ for keycaps and switches? how? considering to buy one too
@@metameow1 I ended up using KTT White V3s instead of the Reddragon Blacks.
I found pressing upwards on the top part of the case from the inside out to pop the top half off has been the easiet method of opening it up.
I bought the gmk67 and it’s a great budget baller
Got this for $19.55 and got and 90 Red Dragon black linear switches for $4.50 for my son and he absolutely loves it!
I got this for $35, Akko V3 Fairy Silent for $22 for 90 switches and the Akko BOW PBT doubleshot for $14.
Really decent choice for anyone to dip into the hobby.
Try the sugar65 next. It's basically an Aluminium version of the GMK67 as far as I can see.
i got a GMK67 as my first custom and i freaking love it, i recomend the Princess MMD Tactile Switches for anyone who realy likes the tactility, like me, they feel and sound great
I bought a whole GMK67 keyboard set up off AliExpress. Its currently my main driver
Hipyo's next video: Getting a piano into a keyboard to see if it thocks!
Going from a k530 pro to this was a night and day difference, this is so good for the price.
Made a purple multi color pastel PBT caps version with lubed screw stabs, tape mod and Akko yellow cream pros and ya. I have to admit it's pretty nice so I gave it to my daughter.
I just found your channel completely by accident and now for some inexplicable reason I want to build my own keyboard
HELP
Definitely want to see videos on the aliexpress keyboards. I imagine there'll be crap, but the question is if you can find any gold among the dirt, and any good mods for them too.
Many words but no thought, why did you even bother to write that
@@GreySectoid So do you just say stuff that contributes nothing to conversation to hear your voice or are you always this much of an asshole?
Been waiting for this video for a while now. Love the budget content!
Polycarb for the People!
In all my life I have never seen a video sponsored by aliexpress
As a guy who lives in Russia I was surprised it was a "challenge" for you to build a keyboard with AliExpress. Cuz thtas the only option we have here
I've used temu, and upgraded a 3 pin hotswap keyboard with ONLY using switches, keycaps, and lube from temu. Apparently, it sounded amazing, and I plan to try to get more of the free stuff.
Also apparently on amazon the gmk67 costs like $70 LMAO
I have been in the keyboard scene for about a yearbor so, built like 5 custom keyboards, but I still don't understand why british people shouldn't look when there is a knob in a video
the “like a texan at a furry convention” caught me so off guard
There are furry conversions in Texas.
This gentleman creates some pretty insane music, keep it on Hipyo :D
I have the GMK67 with gateron milky pro Yellows and it is a really good bang for your buck, great kit.
Does it have the y to thock sound?
My build was the white gmk67 for $43, 90 CIY Asura switches for $24, and some Cotton Candy Theme Pbt key caps i see pop up on the SuperBuy section that I got for $12. Total came to $79 CAD or 57 USD. The CIY Asura are kind of loud but they have such a heavy satisfying bump.
Really wanna see your "Try $10 keyboards" video 🤩
Very cool video i was waiting for hipyo to review this keyboard
that Home Improvement 'Huh' sound made my day.
This is the first board I built from scratch and apart from the iffy wireless connection, I really love it.
I just wish it came in UK flavours. 😭
Love the slow style of vid keep it up
literally just got this kit in the mail. ty hipyo!!!!
Literally have my stuff out right now to build it been waiting on this vid! Amazing!
Even though Bluetooth is kinda annoying when it comes to connecting, but it's actually pretty secure and fast.
That's the exact same case as the EK68. But nice find, and thanks for the budget keyboard vids!
Ayy new budget keyboard list.
I just made a build with the GMK87 using the tape and E1 mods, and WS Morandi switches. I’m in love. It THOCCS! Thanks dude
Yes please do reviews on the $10 keyboards!
Hey Hipyo! How do you do your magic? Please tell me please, thank you, Hipyo, thanks. Magic.
Show us the 75% and full sized keyboard.
SHOW US THE 75% AND FULL SIZED KEYBOARD HIPYO
I believe this is the cheapest keyboard on Aliexpress (nothing cheaper is worth it). I'm using it with Akko Air, and I don't feel the need to lubricate the switches. My keyboard is stock and I believe it is only necessary to modify the stabilizers.
Saw this on amazon for 80 cad and thought "hmm not bad". So glad i found a barebones keychron q2 on black friday for 130 cad.
old video, but anyone complaining about the title. if you GENUINELY THINK someone could build an ENTIRE COMPLETED KEYBOARD FOR $30. you deserve to be upset about the title. he built (keycaps and switches) ONTO a $30 keyboard. i see genuinely nothing wrong with the title
All these weird mods with tape and moldable eraser is too wild and bizarre. Most keyboards to me sound really decent out of the box already.
Okay, now this is definitely one I could go for. Can do both wired and wireless, still has the function keys and arrow keys. Nice.
Thanks for this video wanted to make a budget keyboard.
Chinese companies be like : Here, in china, we tell people what to say. So you will say what we tell you to say.
Hipyo : No.
As someone who has learned the hard way why you don’t tape mod a wireless keyboard, especially with masking tape. I was yelling the second I saw the blue tape.
I have a challenge for you:
try to build a custom iso de layout keyboard, but it can`t just be an all white or all black keyboard, it should be something a bit different
I have this keyboard and I modded it and it’s great. sounds better than some 300 dollar keyboards
i recently bought a bm80 iso board and some ktt rose switches, can't wait for them to arrive
i have this one with akko cream yellows and it's pretty great! totally recommend it as a mac user
i love my morandi switches, thank you for that
this guy sounds like oversimplified
So do you
Real
, I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I ordered the barebone kit because I already have lots of switches and keycaps. Euro 29,00 with free delivery. I wish there were such options when I started this hobby 😥
