  • Today I talk about my experience collecting props and costumes and being in the cosplay community for the last 5 years. These are song things I've come to learn, that perhaps I wish I had known earlier. Enjoy!

I often collect things that as a kid I would have loved to have but couldn't because it didn't exist or I didn't have the money, being a kid.
Now I'm an adult, I can afford these things. I look at something, and think "10 year old me would have loved that".
Like you though, I just try to collect what I love. Somethings are connected to events or experiences in my life. Many years ago I used to watch the Clint Eastwood "dollars" trilogy with my dad. He loved those movies and it was a nice father/son experience watching them with him, therefore, I'll collect things from those movies.
I grew up with the OT rather than the PT so that's where my Star Wars passion is.

Yeah they all mean something to us for different reasons, and that's cool!

Fore it's not just does it look good, its does it function as well? Like for my clone armor which I'm still building, the back plate has those 2 vent details. I wanted them to actually work, so I bought and extra set of helmet fans and rigged them up to vent cool air to my back which gets sweaty. Same for the 2 little notches on the chest. Those are for my mic speaker. The mic tips on the helmet are my air intakes for my helmet fans, and the vent on the back of the helmet is also for venting cold air up to my visor so it doesnt fog up. I'm looking for ways to make the wrist communicator actually light up and have pushable buttons as well!

I’m the same with my collection. I go for quality over quantity, as close to the real prop that I can get. My collection focus is original trilogy and revenge of the sith. I’ve got a few Marvel Dardevil props from the shows but I’m moving out of marvel. Btw nice Obi wan, I have the Roman MK1 with the same crystal reveal chamber. Love seeing other people’s collections!

Great choice! yeah Roman's MK1s are just the best, definitely the most accurate. I have all 3 of Obi's now, may try and go for his arena saber too, just to be extra xD

To be honest, I don't get Funko either... I guess the collecting and wide variety of figures makes it appealing, but I just never got into it. :)
Great points altogether and a really solid video. These are all really important questions to ask yourself and answer. I have to confess that I relate to the impulse buying quite a bit. My attention span is overall pretty short and I need to make sure I can control myself from buying too much. Like you said, waiting at least three months is a really good idea as then you will more accurately know if you're really into something.
    Thanks for the video man!

Yeah I'm more and more thinking about what shape I want my collection to take, as well as how it displays. The attention span is a thing! It's amazing how interest can ebb and flow

@@BucketheadStudios yes, how your collection is displayed is pretty important! You seem to have a very clear vision of what you want your collection to look like. Mine is on the smaller side (which isn't bad like you said), but it's a mixture that sometimes doesn't go well together. Hoping to get a few more pieces so each shelf can be a little more focused on one type of genre.

Thnaks for this experience sharing! I love Avatar too! What I love in props is when they are wearable ! I should be able to use them as they were first intended too (I prefer to wait and buy cosplay rather than props!) Waiting is hard but it's valuable!!

I spent 100 bucks on a poorly made Anakin costume and it sucked. I didn't look the part anyway.
I could probably pull off a Fett or Clone Trooper look, or Superman. I do want a 3D print of a Clone Stormtrooper from the PS2 Triton Squad from The Force Unleashed.
