I love seeing those old shaky cam audience recordings of punk shows from that era. Just some fans casually immortalizing history, unaware that the dudes in some of those bands would become mainstream generation-defining megastars.
Thanks for covering all this with such care. This is the most detailed and accurate telling of this era I have seen anywhere. (Mani aka the singer of Racetraitor).
Fall Out Boy is one of my favorite bands too! As a black girl who was into the scene it was hard like almost all crowds are intensely racist. The amount of times I’ve been called brownie around other crunkcore/pop punk rock fans is insane! And they do it as if you’re supposed to be ok with it ugh… When I was a kid Pete Wentz was the only popular black artist within this scene so naturally Fall Out Boy always meant a lot to me.
I'm sorry girl I am like the biggest ball boy fan and like after seeing cardi B being freaking Fall Out Boy like I think there is a million of Us Fall Out Boy lovers I was actually introduced to Fall Out Boy by another black girl. My uncle used to play and punk bands so he was very against me ever going to a concert or a Warped Tour so he literally would fight my mother so I would not go he said I was too dangerous for me being a girl
That's is such bullshit that that ever happened considering the punk scene is all abt accepting people of all backgrounds 🫂 nowadays I think that stuff is way less likely to fly but still bull fuckin shit that it ever was "more ok"....
@@BloatedDoofushe's half Jamaican on his mom's side :) not so fun fact, but one day a guy that was in their band in the early days asked patrick "what he was" and was promptly dropped from the band.
You're so good at researching all this stuff and putting it together in such a clear and understandable way. Must be a lot of work with random pieces of the timeline so hard to find etc. Loved this video, looking forward to the next!
Patrick would have probably stayed drummer of Fall Out Boy rather than vocalist and things would have been so, so much different. Unraveling is an amazing album that I still play all the way through to this day, and I don't think I can imagine Pete Wentz bringing that kind of energy or those themes when making a Rise Against debut.
A couple of fun facts, the Arma Angelus lineup also at one point included Joe Trohman on guitar and Patrick Stump on drums. Also one of Andy’s recent bands Focused Minds was an extremely cool straight edge hardcore band.
THIS is why i agree when people say fall out boy is punk. yeah their sound has changed but i never really liked the idea of punk being a genre as much as it is a feeling or just art. these guys have their feet planted firmly in 90's sXe hardcore and will always love them for that.

Fall out boy is such a good band, man. I feel the exact same way as you when you talk about it feeling like they’re a band made just for you, and your whole life trajectory being changed because of them. Their witty lyrics, insane musicianship, and general earnestness really endeared them to me. Please do more vids on them, I’d love to see you cover the whole “fresh only bakery” mixtape thing they did around the FAD era. Great work as always homie, just subbed.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs during the mid 2000s, we were spoiled by the amount of bands from the scene. East and West Coast bands rocked, but it was great seeing bands before they all blew up. Glad to see so many get mentioned and discussed here, keep it up my man.

Yo you just earned a subscriber that fall out boy story is me but with infinity on high 😂 I saved birthday money just for the deluxe edition that came with the DVD music videos I was so pumped for it that album changed me as a person and im thankful for that change 🙌
There was a band called Hinckley that was related to Racetraitor but not Fall Out Boy. Kinda chaotic like Reversal of Man. Single 7inch in the 1990s was pretty badass. This video reminded me of it. Thanks!
It’s funny when you tell us when you got into these bands. It’s around the same time I did. You got into them as a lil teen. I got into them as an adult coming back from iraq/military 😂
Forever an Arma Angelus and Racetraitor fan. I made a fan page for AA on myspace when i was a teen. It got some traction, but it was super cringe. It included a wall of thumbnails/pictures of fans holding signs that expressed their love for the band. I could be remembering incorrectly, but i believe it was HeyChris (may have been someone else directly involved) who made fun of the page on his livejournal. Looking back now, whoever went off was right to do so. It was a very cringe-y MySpace page for a band that didn't really jive with MySpace culture hahah. Oh man, being a teenager is so weird. Thank you for this walk down memory lane
@@kage6613 ehh kinda since tkt were tims side project with members of holy roman empire when tim was between rise against and tkt and just went with rise against which is a shame because tkt were fucking incredible. so thats more of a rise against thing rather then a product of arma angelus breaking up.

Im a little bit older than most of you guys 😅my thing was and is grunge but wao you are the best i love music and how you break things down and explain this style of music is amazing , i love all of your videos ,thank you
The goat is back
The best stache and hair on RUclips love ur vids man 👏
Surprised you didn’t mention Patrick’s feature on Jock Powerviolence. Good video!
this video is so awesome! you should make a video about frank ieros side projects, he had a hardcore band called leathermouth. He's also been in a bunch of other bands (including a cure cover band for whatever reason lol) and has released some incredible solo songs as well :)
Love the Fall Out Boy vids :)
Yo you just earned a subscriber that fall out boy story is me but with infinity on high 😂 I saved birthday money just for the deluxe edition that came with the DVD music videos I was so pumped for it that album changed me as a person and im thankful for that change 🙌
Andy toured with Earth Crisis to fill in for Dennis one year. I’m surprised that didn’t make the video
Pretty in punk was one of my favs growing up
Loved your fav band intro haha. coheed was the band that i felt was made for me haha.
There was a band called Hinckley that was related to Racetraitor but not Fall Out Boy. Kinda chaotic like Reversal of Man.
Single 7inch in the 1990s was pretty badass. This video reminded me of it.
Thanks!
woooo happy Friday indeed! Between this and grabbing a pair of tickets to see My Chemical Romance, I am one happy camper :D
Dude I saw that same video and it changed my life too ... Butterfly effect for real..
we have the same favourite band
Wow. Had no idea they started like that and now sound like they do.
It’s funny when you tell us when you got into these bands. It’s around the same time I did. You got into them as a lil teen. I got into them as an adult coming back from iraq/military 😂
Broken Veeg? yikes. Andy Hurley also played drums on tour on Earth Crisis a few times.
Soooooo, u said Pete's outfit was weird but didn't mention dude dressed as Doug funny lol
I’ll never forget I was 12 and stole my bothers burned copy of from under the cork tree in 2005 and I’ve never looked back.
Thank you for this walk down memory lane
if it werent for arma angelus breaking up we never wouldve gotten fall out boy, rise against, and harms way. thats always been nuts to me.
Or The Killing Tree! Everyone always forgets them lol.
@@kage6613 ehh kinda since tkt were tims side project with members of holy roman empire when tim was between rise against and tkt and just went with rise against which is a shame because tkt were fucking incredible. so thats more of a rise against thing rather then a product of arma angelus breaking up.
@@nobetter7747 true true I just wish they had more recognition, great band and more of what I kind of wished Rise Against would've sounded like
@@kage6613 same here their sound was so distinct and raw and rise against is dad rock. why i call it dad rock? my 55 year old dad loves them and even taken me to see em live ( im 30 now)
