In Soviet commie block of Jelgava we meet Gatis and we talk about the hard life in Latvia and in living in Scotland. Just like in my native country Portugal young Latvians leave the country to venture off into western Europe trying to earn more money while life in the homeland only gets more expensive by the day. An ex Soviet country in the European Union. We ride the Honda motorcycle only on off-road routes to Iecava where we'll spend most of the week. The smallest house we stayed in but 'the Shire' becomes our favorite place. Peter and Tatjana are straight up characters pulled from the lust for life book. Tatjana Palčuka-Rikāne is a renowned painter in Latvia and we were lucky enough to have been showcased some of here beautiful work.

Forgive me for the shaky camera work on the dslr. Been using a different lens but the built in stabilization isn't as good which took some time to finally notice.

How do you like the 'Shire'? Ended up being our favorite place and a perfect spot to edit videos.
As a Latvian , This man can talk english for good, many places in Latvia to see as tourist !!! Best of luck in Latvia
What a great video Pedro! Thanks from Brazil!!
What a nice departure and kind scottish talk and then such a nice Welcome from pedro.
Nice adventure and really great summer time .
Even a solar power roof on the garage - what a difference.
I am impressed with your travel partner- you are a lucky guy!
Omg this randomly showed up on my recommended. And I’m from Iecava as well . This is crazy. But yeah loved the video:)
Very nice video. Such friendly people. And she's very talented artist and how nice that he is so proud of her talent.
Off-roading 2 up Def a challenge bro but looks like Atlas held up nicely..
That couple was hilarious man, their friendliness and hospitality never ceases to amaze. 👍🏻 old man is a bad ass... Painter, Airborne, collector, and hotelier
haha Peter is a class guy ,ahah, amazing painting, Hello from Estonia
True, won't be the last time we end up at his place. Tere!
You visited more homes in Latvia than I did in my entire life as a native person of Latvia. I should stay in AirBnbs just to meet people.
Nice vid Pedro. I would like to own a property like the one where you are now staying. That gentleman must have a lot of stories to tell I bet, it's more interesting to hear the local's point of view of things. I can't wait to move back to Europe and explore. Stay well man.
Yeah they've built up to be their own little paradise over the many years, the kind of people that have life figured out. You too mate, hope that the sting of your motorized loss has resided a bit.
@@iPedroMota Thanks man, I'm still pissed, but that's life. My wife now watches the vids too. Cheers!
Hello and good luck from Poland
I am glad you cleaned up your language Pedro, its much better!
I'm flying to Riga from Houston Texas tomorrow. The length of days shortens quickly in Sept. and Oct in Latvia. When I leave on Oct 19 the days will be almost 3 hours shorter. Don't drink and drive at all in Latvia. The penalties are very severe and obey speed limits.
*obey speed limits when police or radar is around😅
One word I constantly hear incorrectly and for some weird reason it grates on me. I am so happy you have not fallen in to the PronOUnciation trap. You actually said "pronunciation." It's such a common mistake for ESL speakers. Good on ya!
(Taking boots off) "Who do you rekon is going to stink the place up more?" "Ah these don't stink." ha ha love it!
Great video, it's amazing what great people you meet on your travels. say hello and make friends it's great!. BTW what app are you using for finding the off road routes?.
Cheers, true. OsmAnd is the app, finding all the functions can take some time getting used to but once it works it works.
@@iPedroMota Thanks Pedro!
By the way i dont know if you missed it but near Zālītes is old soviet base which is now used as airsoft and paintball base
We just so happen to have checked it out, stay tuned
Afternoon mate
Mariska sounds like she has a Kiwi accent? love your stuff Pedro cheers from NZ
Almost a decade she's lived there so spot on. Cheers!
I was in Latvia last month, beautiful city, mostly near the center but stuff is kinda cheap and everything else seems slightly rural.
Legendary hosts in lecava
Hey Pedro. Can you do a list of the gear both of you are using? I like the casual look
👍👍👍super godt
Zālīte is not a farm it's an ex soviet military base. Also zālīte is slang for weed.
That's because it actually means grass in Latvian!
Soviets disappeared ages ago. No reason to associate Baltics or any other place on earth as ex-soviet. It was useless disgraceful regime. I suppose you don't refer to Austria as ex-nazi country. Please change the title if its possible to show some respect. Thank you.
Agree. It's unrespectful and Pedro lost some credit in my mind. From another ex-soviet country.
What if I told you that when referring to architecture "Nazi" and "fascist" are used in Austria and Italy as well?
Honestly, as a latvian, i have never heard about this painter.
Peteris back in the days looked like a EMINEM.
Hi Pedro, why do you change the titles of your videos so often, bit confusing!?If you should go to Estonia, please visit the place where women on soviet sidecars rule their island👍
Just yt things as a creator. Estonia is absolutely coming up, cheers!
Aussie language is straight to the point when a point of view is needed hahaha
Great place to practice one's conversational English..
Can't wait for next video ❤️
Watching this together with my wife and we both love your channel !!! We're fellow travelers and we make our own content, but always happy to learn something new ☺️
If you're ever interested, check me out ✌️
PS
We're Latvians and we're so thrilled to see you describing Latvia since it's from an eyes of westerner. Sometimes we're laughing, sometimes crying 😅
If you wanna ask anything regarding Latvia, shoot ahead !!
Cheers guys, travel on!
The guy makes a few truths to say the least 🙈💙👀👀🌍🙏🏍🏍🤔
Ok 👍👌 super bien Pedro saludos 😃
Listo
Pedro, it is kind of unpolite to call us ex-soviet country. Before soviets occupied us we were independent country. We can call Netherlands ex Roman empire provice.
🤣🤣🤣 truth hurts. All the eastern part of Europe are ex-soviet countries. In the west , we call yall like that. Its just the truth. Dont be so sensitive. Accept your history .
They saved your ass if it wasn't for the soviet yall would have been speaking German by now
Plus, yall benefited from the soviet era which is not a lie as well.
@@Tate.TopG. I remember Soviet times very well. It was build on tears and blood. Thousands of people were tortured, sent to Siberia or killed. Including people from my family. German occupation was changed to Soviet occupation. And, yes, that hurts.
Your comment, Johnny, is not just stupid, but also evil. And I highly doubt that you live in the West. Most probably you are paid kremlin troll from somewhere around.
You are portuguese? Es português? 😅
Am I the only one who thinks Peter looks like Eminem in his old Army photograph?
I can't unsee it now
Those lady's on the stoop wanna tag team ya bro.
Hey Pedro 😉
Bamboo socks!!
then your feet don't stink anymore
and that is a promise
Noted, cheers. I've also been told that fake leather shoes smell more.
@@iPedroMota
Maybe, but not in bamboo 😎😎
This is the way
Nothing are f..ed up here.. There are almost the same as in others EU states...
If you talk to people who are lazy, not working or not studying than many times you hear opinion that everything is bad an everyone else are responsible for that.....
Cope. Nordic countries don't assume people who aren't well off are lazy.
@@fungo6631 it's not completely untrue what the guy said. In ex soviet countries there is a mentality 'everything is bad' and because of this people don't see perspective and don't chase their dreams. Of course living standards and opportunities in Latvia are worse then in Finland or the Netherlands, but there are enough opportunities to make life better than it is now.
👍👍🇦🇷🇦🇷

WTF, I should ask a raise from my boss :O
I'm sorry to say that your channel has degraded to a tourist/girlfriend experience rather than a motorcycle travel/adventure channel as it used to be. I used to look forward to and enjoy your travels but this format is not for me.
Best regards from Sweden
Life evolves eh, thanks for watching and take it easy. Cheers
