Maywood was a Dutch pop duo, consisting of the sisters Alice May and Caren Wood (pseudonyms of Alie (Aaltje) and Doetie (Doetje) de Vries respectively) from Uitwellingerga.
'Late At Night' was their biggest hit, reaching #1 in the Dutch Top 40 on 12 July 1980, where it stayed on that position for 3 weeks.
This performance was recorded by the TROS TV program TROS Top 50 Rock Planet on 17 July 1980

Sisters Alice (blonde) and Caren . The sisters were very successful,sadly the relationship between the sisters was very bad. The problems exploded when Caren fell in love. Caren married and the sisters broke up. They hadn’t seen eachother for many years when a reunion was arranged. The sisters agreed to see eachother and sing together,but the reunion was short-lived and fights started from the beginning. Caren is still happily married and works in a care-center as a nurse. Alice,now a widow,is still involved in music.There’s no contact between the sisters for many years.

Wat een herinneringen. Blijkbaar was ik pas 4 jaar oud toen dit liedje in de toplijsten verscheen en ondanks dat ik ondertussen reeds decennia een kaalkoppige, baardige Death Metal fan/muziekant ben heeft dit nummer een onuitwisbare indruk achter gelaten.
Wat een heerlijke melodie en ritme!
Ik stel me ook reeds lang de vraag hoe het mogelijk is dat uit zulk 'fréle' vrouwen, zúlk een krachtige stem (letterlijk) komt; ik denk dat veel zangeressen het onderste uit de kan zouden moeten halen om zó 'vol' te kunnen klinken. Hoewel ze heel beheerst zingen hebben ze een soort van 'schreeuwerig effect' in hun stem dat bijdraagt tot de uitbundigheid van het geheel. Érg straf en een talent om over naar huis te schrijven -of dit nummer nogmaals met familie en vrienden te delen.
