  • Fernley, Nevada is much more than a supply haven off I-80 for weary truckers and travelers, but as small town culture in America becomes background noise to urbanization this community feels forgotten. Audiogran essay by Zoe Cruz..

This is a perspective of a liberal, but many struggling with Amazon moving to Reno because of liberal tax policies, and Tesla refused to pay liberal taxes as well became the downfall of a town I use to love make a living in. Remember how you vote not only effects your paycheck but your lively hood as well. Don't care about how you feel about it but how you and your family can grow where you live.

Those small towns have never had much money. You can tell by your words and tone that you are a blue no matter who voter. People in small towns do not vote liberal because today liberals are more obsessed with identity politics than issues most people care about. Such as the cost of eggs vs gender neutral bathrooms. A lot of minorities live in small towns. Some small towns are mostly minorities. I grew up in a small town 90 percent African American. Read a book once in a while and travel.

The poster had obviously read many books, or at least enough excerpts and cliffs notes to get through a fairly undemanding undergrad program.

Started high school in Fernley, back in 1978. Think it is small now? Lot smaller back then. That eastern exit off I-80 did not have any hotels there. There was not much in that area. It has grown a lot since then, so has Fallon just 30 miles away.

My grandmother lived in Fernley when I was a young kid. Everyone complained then that there was nothing to do and no jobs.

You had me at 'racism'... Current description of the word: People in Fernley don't agree with me... I mean 'racist' is used to describe people who you don't like... right? I have lived here for several years and I see PATRIOTISM (which might mean 'racism' to you). I have not seen true racism here. The pandemic deeply affected every small town, but like everyone else... we will survive. Now go find a small town in Montana you can attack. :) Blessings

I have never run across rasists in fernley. Or anywhere else in Navada. Im part native and latino..and alot of folks living there and close by just dont care who you are or what color your skin is, they just want to be left alone.

Please have this removed as I never signed a consent form for social media. You stated this was a school project.

You come across as really judgemental like alot of the far left. I live in Los Angeles now and that is a city decaying worse then those small towns.
