The old Helms bakery industrial building is now HD Buttercup, a huge furniture store to the rich and famous right in the heart of Culver City today I have seen things I’ve never seen in my life absolutely incredible furniture for your apartment or house. Most of the stuff was too pricey for me , but it’s always free to window shop. If you’re ever in the Los Angeles area, you should definitely visit HD Buttercup on Venice Boulevard in Culver City.

Helms bakery trucks use to travel all over Los Angeles county back in the day. I remember the truck coming with fresh donuts & all us kids from the neighborhood would be outside telling our moms which donuts we wanted. Now those were the days. 😁👍🏽

Growing up, we had a Helms truck and a regular driver delivering Helms’ baked goods. I think it was a couple times a week. My mom bought breads, rolls, sweets from the driver, who ‘sang’ what items were for sale as he opened the drawers to show her the goods that were available. His singing drove my mom nuts! Those were the days. My elementary school also took field trips to the Helms Bakery. We would tour the massive bakery and at the end of our visit received little paper Helms Trucks, filled with miniature baked items. One of our favorite field trips!

I grew up in Huntington Park in the 50's and would get so excited when I would hear the Helms whistle and see the beautiful panel truck in front of our house. Just like in the picture on the wall there, they had big beautiful wooden drawers that would pull out the back of the truck to show all the goodies. I always would get a delicious creme puff. Miss those days, Melaney from SoCal

Helms Bakery bread trucks were awesome! I grew up in Ventura County. If I remember correctly, they would blow this steam type whistle as they came down the street. Of course the bread was good, but the huge long trays filled with various fresh donuts were the 💣! After the demise of Helms Bakery, this store was turned intoThe Antique Guild. They had tons of antiques, collectibles and retro items at reasonable prices. I was so sad to see it fold. This Buttercup store looks cool, but unrealistically priced for the average person. Still great though for inspiring furniture and design. Thank you for sharing! 👍😊

From 1974 - '77 I lived on Canfield Ave, just off Venice a little west of the Helms building. I vaguely recall that building being abandoned, but then gutted and only slightly remodeled so individual vendors could have booths inside. There was so much to see, and most of it affordable. Now, it all looks upscale, but still fascinating. Thanks for the tour. It brings back many memories of how that area used to be. I lived there when Culver City was still affordable, too.
