Let's find out if he gets it back. 😅
@@Godovgrind let's find out 🫵
I think that he wants his beard back also
Haha
It’s going to take more then those chicken kicks to get it back haha
Jdawg lookin like a 1980s pro wrestling action figure 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

yeah one of the bootleg Dollar Tree ones

This is actually actor Owen Wilson playing Paul Ledney to prepare for the upcoming Profanatica biopic.
w000w
These two together is priceless. I could watch this for 10 hours. Paul is so genuine and funny without trying. I like that dude.
Reppin' the Thulean Perspective cap
Damn snow niggaz
No flat brims here
He is repping it Bobby style. Clear the corner!
Saw Profanatica on this tour. Been a fan for years and this was the first time I got to see the band live. Paul and Co. delivered the goods. Paul was also a very down-to-earth, approachable guy, which isn't necessarily what you'd think from all the Profanatica and Havohej releases over the years. I got a picture with him, which I was quite stoked about.
This interview is a lot of fun. Both interviewer and interviewee seem to be at ease and enjoying the conversation, which makes for good interviews. No guarded musicians talking to random guys who don't understand anything about the music here.
Keep these interviews up, J-Dawg. They are my favorite part of your channel.
Definitely one of my favorite interviews from the channel, like top 3. Interesting takes from Paul and great personality as usual from J-Dawg.
Cool interview. Definitely a band I was curious on getting into. I listened to them a little but now I’ll go all in
My favorite interview so far can’t wait for part 2! Drop them names lmao!
Great interview. Stoked to see them tonight, great live band.
Good interview, very informative
Such an awesome interview!
Awesome interview
A criminal neglect of South American death metal. Like bands like sarcófago and sepultura’s bestial devastation in 1985. I love profanatica but South America set the path for black metal especially Black Death.
Lie
Couldn't have said it better myself, vulcano had huge influence aswell 🤟
Chile n Ecuador are killing it right now
@@bloodgoat hahahaha
great fuckin' interview. love Paul's honesty. I'm Paul's exact age - was there at G. Willikers for their show when I was in Hazarax. Also, him giving props to Poison Idea and liking all their albums had me grinning from ear to ear, as I do as well. great job. HAILS!!!
PAUL LEDNEY = MASTER
Elated to see you got an interview with Varg!
coming soon or just trollin' lol ?
Great interview 🤘
Great conversation really enjoyed it. Love Profantica
J Dawg really busting some balls in this one 😂
Can’t wait for part 2!
Pissed I’m gonna miss Profanatica coming through my city tomorrow
Yeah, I did not expect this to become a thing where they'd do a part 2 in the future lmao.
Sick profile picture John Mcentee is the man
Paul dressed up like Varg ironically, or is the other way around?... Lets find out!
Honestly I dig the fit.

Fire ass interview keep ‘em coming dawg town
It’s not my favorite of their albums. But it still kicks the shit out of damn near any so called rock album of that era
Damn this was great 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
He's definitely right on about USBM being its own style - Profanatica, Havohej, I Shalt Become, Demoncy, Averse Sefira, Krieg, Black Funeral.
my favorite part is where he skips right over VON and credits Profanatica for helping define the early US style
I was expecting him to throw Judas Iscariot under the bus since they were more Norse sounding haha
Krieg and Black Funeral are more in the vein of Norwegian/French style Black Metal. More "Euro" sounding as Paul would say. I would replace those two with Masochist and Manticore.
@@BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty in a interview I think he said black funeral was true usbm too
Grimmoon
Good damn interview J
Paul Ledney is absolutely hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed this interview.
Nice! Saw Profanatica when they did the Curling Flame Over Europe tour in 2018. Probably the best SOUNDING live band I've seen. Exactly like on record with that gnarly bass!
saw then too at this tour. really really my sound. Necrovore, Sarcofago, Abhorer direct in the face style. love it
"The early Black/Death Metal was rooted in Punk. And the Punk was already built into it, you can't take it out". Words of wisdom to live by.
Thank you for this

Based fucking list
Great conversation !!!!
Thanks, J Dawg. This was a great interview. I just saw Profanatica live, and they were awesome. Paul is quite a character.
They’re still around??
I interviewed them for my Zine back in ‘93.
Another good one!
Ledney interviews are always interesting.
Re: genre origins, the first proper death metal album is Abominations of Desolation (1986.) Seven Churches is a highly-evolved speed metal album but it doesn't have the song construction/phrasing of real death metal. Anyway this style of music already started in 1983 with Slayer, Bathory, Hellhammer
Paul Speckman, Paul Ledney, Chris Reifert and Dixie Dave should start a band. Melt some faces. Cheers devils!
J dawg fresh off a tren shake this interview is great thank you
The way he speaks reminds me of Keith Morris for some reason.
I was thinking that too! That hat vibe gives that off too haha
Can’t wait for Heavy Hell!
His beard slowly splits like the wounds of Christ as the interview progresses.
Another cool guy on the channel, awesome. Glad to hear him bring up Absu, they're as far as the "sick shit" goes in that style on top of their game, at least for "Tara" Pillars of Mercy is an absolute slasher of a song.
This was the best one so far
Very cool dude and i oove the music he has created. I dig the way he thinks about metal..
Absolutely nailed it, glad he mentioned the essential punk influence in black/death
Punk 😡
black metal was born out of metalpunk and it's funny that people don't know this
Awesome comment. I remember reading a Profanatica/Paul Ledney interview in an issue of Metal Maniacs in '07 and mentioned amongst the band's influences was Discharge
@@kaiserwave5977 Metal does not exist without Discharge, GBH, and GISM, so continue making yourself look like the fool.
@@patrickbertlein4626exactly
Long time Profanatica fan here since 1991!!! Paul is the man. Hails from Tampa!
Damn your a true og man salute
If I had to pick just ONE death/black metal vokillist to be #1, it would have to be Paul Ledney. It was awesome seeing Profanatica live in 2015 and it's great to see they're still around today!
Not mikael alkerfeldt then...
For me it would absolutely be NSK from Teitanblood / early Proclamation
That was pretty interesting throughout
16:06 new J-Dawg soundbite just dropped
Fingers crossed to see it pop up in an upcoming RFI vid
On a different note, quite surprised with the lack of love for Demoncy, Von & Averse Sefira.
I had a dream last night that Pharmacist played their first live show ever at the next Hells Headbash and I made a a bootleg vinyl of it
And I had a dream that you gave me a free copy of it 👍
Saw them in Raleigh, great show.
Meet Paul in a show here in Brasil. He signed my Havohej Dethrone cd.
This came sooner than I thought
Just like Paul on that bible 😂
Funny timing with that cuz recently I was reading some Paul interviews thinking "despite the pictures of them not having pants, surely they aren't THAT crazy"
houstons gonna be great ! Also a Profanatica split with Nun slaughter would be a total wet dream
One of my fav interviews.
Yooooo Deteriorot rules dude, y'all need to tour the US for the new album
@@NebulaMortis99 Thank You! I hope we get to plan a few dates after we get back from our European Tour
Great interview. Would love to see Profanatica play in Singapore and yeah, "Skullfucking..." is Impiety best album. Blood Storm is great too. One of their album remind me of Profanatica.
Paul, Profanatica needs to comeback to Latin America last time the gig was a kick ass one Hail authentic Black Metal!!
Great Interview! Paul and Profanatica rule

Awesome!!! 😎 👍
Time for a buzzcut. Sick gains Justin. Keep it up.
Legend!
Amazing interview.paul ledney is a god of metal
Paul is one of the coolest guys ever
They were all imitating South American Bands from the 80's
This guy seems to not know Sarcófago, Vulcano, Parabellum, Necrbutcher and so many others talking about "their own style" even early Beherit was pure Brasilian worship or Mayhem Pure Fcking Armageddon
He didn’t mention them, so that doesn’t really mean anything at all
Probably my favorite interview. Profanatica is one of my favorite bands for sure. Love me some Poison Idea as well. Feel the Darkness was a perfect album.
Feel The Darkness is one of my all time favorite albums
Such a great album! The Pick your king E.P is still the best Poison Idea release IMO though!
Last album I picked up from pi was war all the time! Great stuff!
I didn't expect the gent to be such fun.
Saw these dudes last night. Super sick.
Good interview. Paul seems like a cool dude.
"What do they worship over there (in Japan), Buddha or something? Probably something stupid like that."
Breathtaking.
😅
Damn, this dude is as strict with his tunes as Don of the Dead! Strictly 6 releases/bands on his ipod! 😆
All the more reasons why these 2 should make that split already. Profinaslaughter
Bobby-clear the corner
Legend!!
17:35 Trying desperately not to say GBK to avoid controversy
After already talking about a release called broken Jew?
Maybe he just doesn’t dig them
@@jbjackson8889 Profanatica is anti-christian and Paul has no love left for any other of the Abramahic religions but GBK is a different kettle of fish as they openly associate themselves with NSBM. I don't think Paul would ever walk up to the Mystifier guys and call them monkeys. We all remember the feud that Grishnackh had with Impiety in the early 90s and how they would in turn openly insult all Norwegian bands for a while.
@@cehaem2 what happened with impiety ?
And who said that to Mystifier ?
@@jbjackson8889 No one said anything to Mystifier but I just wanted to point out the difference between GBK and Profanatica. As for Impiety - Vikernes sent a letter full of threats to them in the early days saying, that Black Metal was for white people only to which they responded by insulting the Norwegian scene in interviews and I mean there's also like a fuck off to Norway on the first album but I could be wrong.
@@cehaem2 Mortiis, not Count.
He makes complete since on those picking styles completely separating it not being hard hitting, Emperor goes much more into a music theory space with all that melodic drive vs just tremoloing power chords to hell!
After seeing them live I agree
I got that Putrification demo on a boot vinyl. Its a awesome demo. [I got it on HHR year's ago on vinyl, the perfect demo boot]
What about Demoncy? I dont think he wanted to go there. Robert played with them back in the day.
I wonder why?🤔

I hope the D-beat influence from the Pale Fuck 7" makes it onto the new full-length. Such a good addition to their sound.
Got a pretty good bass player on the current tour.Bought a profanatica vinyl from Malcolm in SC.
Hails Profanatica!!!
Profanatica in concert rule. As long as they tour in my country, I will be in the front row \m/
I guess that dudes been working out
Fucking great interview man.
13:10 agreed, another perfect day is #1
Great interview. Completely agree with Paul Ledney and his definition of what is U.S. Black Metal. Also agree with him about how the 2nd Wave of Black Metal sounded very different before the Norwegian scene started to become more popular. Bands like Rotting Christ, Samael, Necromantia, Archgoat, Blasphemy, Beherit, Mystifier, and Impaled Nazarene predate most of the Norwegian bands with the only exception being Mayhem and they sounded nothing like the Norwegian scene yet all of them played Black Metal in their own unique way and sounded very original. I generally preferred these type of Black Metal bands over their Norwegian counterparts although I still like the Norwegian bands quite a bit. Now there are countless bands that want to sound nothing else but Darkthrone, Burzum, Gorgoroth, and Emperor. There are still newer bands that play in the fashion of the early 2nd wave Non-Norwegian style of Black Metal but it's not as common as the Scandinavian style.
I listened to warfare noise off cogumelo last night and the release date was 86. Heil Brazil! 🤘
Mystifier, Blasphemy, Archgoat and Beherit literally sound almost the same.Especially Blasphemy and Archgoat
@@user-mz9ig5id3o they don't at all but I'm sure this just your version of a hot take on the pillars of the whole genre! Good for you.
@user-mz9ig5id3o You either haven't listened to any of them or you're tone deaf. Either way you've proven your opinion on the subject to be irrelevant and I therefore see no need to waste anymore time in engaging with you.
@@vesuviacorpseflower4828 I did too before I heard the early stuff coming out of Brazil.
ProfanatêanPerspective
It’s amazing to hear how soft-spoken Paul Ledney actually vs his stage voice. Cool guy and definitely an iconic in underground metal.
Been digging Negative Approach alot lately. I appreciate the filthy punk influence Paul has. Need to check out more Poison Idea. Another perfect day was the first new Motorhead album I bought back in the early 80s. We named our band The Religious Fucks because of the door knockers. Great interview
From Poison Idea just listen to Pick your king E.P from '83, raw as hell, no wonder he likes them!
Kings of punk is my favorite
CAN'T TELL NO ONE!
Both Negative Approach and Poison Idea are GODZ
I’m not crazy about Punk, but I can always listen to Negative Approach
Paul always looks so uncomfortable and on edge lol
Probs cuz homie could squash him like a watermelon with those arms haha
Yeah! Paul “The First Death Metal is Black Metal” Ledney.
I mean even on Altars it's pretty hard to not hear Black Metal in the melodic riff in Visions from the Dark Side. It's literally what 90's Black Metal riffs sound like.
@@SuicidalGrind If you’ll be reading his interviews, he says that a lot, and I find it quite funny that he really started this interview with that. True to the bone! Got nothing on him.
@@minuspallid I'm surprised J-dawg didn't bring up the question he asks everyone of "What's the best Death Metal album of all time" though. Maybe that's for the part 2 when they supposedly are gonna throw bands under the bus.
Hilarious he said he tried to get into mayhem haha that makes two of us
@@SuicidalGrind I think the atmosphere of this interview is kinda awkward lol. Theyre like walking on thin ice talking to Ledney. But it was funny when jdawg slides for a bit to break his balls haha.
