Yeah, but it doesnt work anymore on the new Mac OS!
Sadly, according to the developer's last update from December 28, 2020, it doesn't seem like there are any plans to add support for Big Sur, including the Apple Silicon chips. It's possible that it may not work on systems updated after that date, especially those with the latest Apple Silicon technology.
Quote from log:

@@JoeLamOfficial you mean it doesn't work anymore? I can't use the control on my mac?
After two weeks I solved it for the case of Mac with M1 chip. I'm sharing this with you in case it helps anyone: I bought a PS4 controller and a PS5 controller. The PS4 controller works quite well for most emulators (it works on OpenEmu and Ryujinx but on Dolphin it doesn’t work at all) but it’s not very accurate, for example on OpenEmu it stopped recognizing the forward stick. I tried the PS5 controller and it works perfectly, I connected it with a USB C wire to make it more stable, directly to the Mac and now it works with every emulator and the accuracy is just perfect. I hope my experience helps you.
Not only M1 chip. Modern macOS and iOS or iPadOS etc all support bluetooth controllers natively without the need for these drivers. Shame we can't use the 360 but it's easier and works straight out the box now days.
Hello Joe, thank you very much for your video and your good intention to help. I am using a MacBook Pro with M1 Chip, with macOS Ventura and I just can't connect my xbox 360 controller in any way, I've spent 2 weeks trying to fix it and I can't think of what else to do. Do you know if there is any solution?
Unfortunately, the Xbox 360 controller is not compatible with macOS Ventura on the M1 Chip. The only real option going forward is to use a Bluetooth-compatible controller. Those work straight out the box with most modern Apple devices from phones, iPads to Mac.

Just to chip in. This is what the dev says “As of December 28, 2020, there are not plans to add Big Sur support, including Apple Silicon support. It will most likely not work on Big Sur.”
As somebody who tried the very recent alpha packages and has a wired Xbox One controller that runs into the "Power Required" issues and the device, despite being recognised by the system via USB connection, was not recognised by the packages I had, this fix definitely works. As mentioned, rumble, buttons, they all work. This video is a life saver.

Usually newer drivers works better. It does seem counterintuitive and I didn't expect it to work either. Glad I could help though. :) Thanks for watching my video.
Dude... 2 things...
1) there is an app out there called UninstallPkg which would cure one of your problems....
2) I strongly recommend backing up using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper... Once you have ag image and back up once or twice a week you can restore your sytem in minutes,,, NEVER had an issue with this in 11 years.... whereas there have been issues a plenty with Time Machine
Hi John, thanks for the advice. Luckily my problem was fixed using the older driver and it's been working since, but hopefully your tip will help others. I've been using Time Machine ever since and it's been working fine, I do use CCC for other backup tasks/external drives though. :)

@@JoeLamOfficial Hi Joe. Thank YOU!
I have a question. Hope you can help me. The rumble on any of my 360 controller isn't working. Do you know why this could be?
Hi, does it work in the driver setting menu in system preference? If you pull the triggers it should rumble? If it does and not in the games, I think it’s just because it’s not been coded to recognise the 360 controller via the driver. Could blame the game, the driver. Not entirely sure which one is causing it to be honest. Mine works in the preference menu when I test it but not in emulator apps like open emu or Redream. I don’t play any native Mac compatible games, so I’m not sure if it will work there with less layers in between the game and the controller.

Does it work with Guitar hero xbox 360 controller?
Hi there, not sure - I don’t have a Guitar to test. In theory it should though? Does it have a USB connection or is it wireless? If it’s wireless, then no.
Great video! Any advice on what version of the driver should I use for my wireless Xbox 360 controller? My OSX is High Sierra 10.13.6 Thanks!
Hi 👋🏼 the answer is unfortunately you can’t use a wireless controller. Not even if you get the charge USB cable. Which only delivers power and no data.
This is what the developer has to say:”As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. This issue cannot be resolved with minor changes to the driver, and requires that the driver be re-written from scratch to resolve the issue. Due to an excess of caution, we have disabled Wireless Xbox 360 controller support as of 0.16.6. If you want to use a wireless controller, download 0.16.5 or earlier and disable the driver before the computer enters a "sleep" state in order to prevent kernel panics. Alternatively, you can revert to a macOS version before 10.11 to avoid this issue.”

Hi, I'd like to know if this driver would support a GH Xplorer, would it work on my MacBook?
The new ones don't work with the Play & Charge Kit, I will actually try alpha 2 and see how it goes!
Hi - the play & charge kit only provides power via USB as far as I understand. It still communicates wirelessly for the controls itself. Therefore it wouldn’t work unless you use a physically connected USB Xbox 360 controller. (Side note, it also doesn’t work with newer M1 Macs or newer macOS versions - since it hasn’t been updated for a while.)
Any solution to uses the guitar live hero controller with 360 dongle?
Hello, I wanted to know does this still apply if I have to plug in a USB adaptor first and then the Xbox USB controller? Because I cannot directly connect the Xbox 360 Controller into the computer.
Hi there. The wireless 360 Xbox controller doesn’t work with this driver even with the adapter. You need the fully wired version. Or Xbox ONE / PS4 controller which uses Bluetooth (no driver needed). Even with the adapter for your controller. It only supplies power but no data.
Here’s what the developer says. As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. This issue cannot be resolved with minor changes to the driver, and requires that the driver be re-written from scratch to resolve the issue. Due to an excess of caution, we have disabled Wireless Xbox 360 controller support
Okay Thank you!
No problem. Hope this helped.
I want to ask if you conent your controler with cable or wireles and with what cable, thank you ❤
It has to be the version with the wired cable. With the wireless version, it doesn't transmit any data even when connected. It's used for charging only.

Did you get a wired one?
Can we connect 2 xbox 360 controllers with this method?

How can i do with Mac OS big sur?? Please someone helps me😩😩😭
I'm still on mojave. It is very likely they won't develop for newer macOS. Best bet is to use a newer Xbox One or PS4/5 controller with native bluetooth support. This quote is direct from the developer "As of December 28, 2020, there are not plans to add Big Sur support, including Apple Silicon support. It will most likely not work on Big Sur."
Hey are you able to use the wired 360 controller on your regular xbox 360
Yes of course. Why wouldn't it work? :)
do you know what version i need for high sierra? ive tried versions 1 2 5 and 6 and none work :(
nvm after restarting computer and more drivers i found one! v 0.16.6 Works for high sierrra. so maybe you can add that on bio for other hisierra users
Hey thanks for sharing this tip. You went all the way back to 0.16.6???
I'm using 10.15.3, the latest version right now. I tried v2 like you, and nothing. I tried the newest version, and nothing. I have a macbook pro 2019, so I need to use the dongle to connect my wired xbox 360 controller. What in the world is going on wrong???
I'm on Mojave 10.14.6 and Alpha 3 driver. Since making this video they have released up to alpha 5 driver and claims to be compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15 although it doesn't specify explicitly mention your 10.15.3. My guess is that your OS isn't compatible at this stage. I highly doubt it's got anything to do with your MBP 2019 or the dongle.
That's why I'm hesitant to run the latest macOS or iOS. There are usually some compatibility issues and takes times for developers to write the softwares and this is just an open source free project.
Your only option is to wait for new driver version or run a older macOS (my guess).
Rainbow ho-oh same stuff

hey bro! i love this vid thanks for it, but i have an issue, it says the xbox controller and it FINALLY recognized the controller, but when i move the controller on the test, it doesnt show that the controller is moving, im using an xbox wireless controller, the newest one, but with a cable, any fix?
Xbox 360 or Xbox ONE? I suspect the latter since the 360 cable only provides power and no data. If you’re using Xbox one. Then it can be flaky as it’s not optimised for it. I’m amazed that you managed to get it to recognise.
From dev “As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. This issue cannot be resolved with minor changes to the driver, and requires that the driver be re-written from scratch to resolve the issue. “ and regarding Xbox one via usb cable “If your controller is recognized by the preference pane, but you aren't getting any response from button presses, this is likely due to an issue with macOS 10.11 and later. Apple changed some of the underlying USB code with this release and broke compatibility with some controllers. “
This driver is optimised for the wired Xbox 360 controller only and even then it’s hit or miss at times
Im using the wired 360 version and I've tried almost all version but it still doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi there, it's unlikely to work with your version of macOS as the driver hasn't been updated by the dev for a very long time and there doesn't appear to be any likelihood of any updates going forward sadly. Hi William, this driver hasn’t been updated by the dev for long time. It doesn’t support the M1 chip and the newer macOS versions unfortunately. Only way is to use Bluetooth controllers like the Xbox ONE, PS4/5, Switch etc. Anything with Bluetooth support - should be compatible natively with the newer M1 machines.

Hi what’s about with m1? Should i try? Have any solutions instead?
Unlikely to work with newer macs with M1 or latest macOS. They've stopped developing the driver quite some time. You're better off using newer Xbox One or PS4+ controllers (with bluetooth). They tend to work without any drivers which makes it easier or the only option going forward.
so is there a way to delete it? Is it safe for it just to be lying there?? Please reply if seen!
You can delete the driver by going to System preference, Xbox 360 Controller, go to Advanced tab, bottom right, there's the option to uninstall.

I did the exact same thing before even coming here (installed 3.0 and then went down to 2.0) but it still doesn't show up for me.

What macOS are you on? It is possible that even though in essence is the same but the actual controller ID info is different so it could be down things like that too. Since it specifically written for the original official wired 360 controller only. And going through different USB controller adapters likely complicates things further; given with my direct connection with original controller gave me enough hurdles to get through.
Hi
Thanks for the video
I tried it and im still getting issues
But i think it could be the Hardware not the software/ driver issue...
Basically i am using a Plug and Play Charger cable with a Xbox 360 wireless controller
Do i have to get a Microsoft reciever even tho its plugged in with USB charge and play cable and drivers installed?
I noticed a Message saying "Xbox 360 controller with Charge and Play is plugged in" but then it mentions having the Receiver to use it.
I don't want to connect 360 controller to play games but rather to Test buttons of Faulty Controllers.
If you have any advice I'd appreciate it!
I kinda don't want to have to Buy the Receiver as i Just bought the Plug and Play USB charge cable and thought that would allow me to test the buttons...
Clearly not.
Unless im doing something wrong?
Thanks for the Help and Video Tho anyways.
Hi. To start with. The Plug and Play Charger cable only charges the Xbox 360 wireless controller and does not carry data. Therefore the controller is in wireless mode only. Using the receiver will not work either as the driver isn't compatible with the receiver and strictly only with the wired 360 controller. Not the wireless (or with the receiver).
And finally, depending how new your macOS and Mac is. It's likely not going to work either. The driver hasn't been updated to support new macOS or Apple Silicon based machines. Only with Intel and older macOS versions sadly.
@@JoeLamOfficial Thanks bro
Any time. Sorry couldn't help any further.
@@JoeLamOfficial Haha No worries bro its all good! Shame the Cables themselves dont carry data - But it is what it is!

Hi! I have a xbox 360 controller (wireless at first but i bought a wire just to play on my mac) and i have difficulties with the "device not found". I'm on Catalina (10.15.4), and i tried alpha 2, 4, 5, 6 i think... i allowed the access but it still doesn't work and i'm going crazy because i can't understand why it can't see my (now)WIRED controller (the wire seems to work cause it lights up for some seconds when i connect it to the controller, but else, it doesn't do shit. in the "tutorials" i found, it should flash green at some point but mine doesn't). It's been some days i try to find answers to this problem and i'm going crazy cause... i can't. So now i ask directly to know if there is some other possibilities.
Oh, i saw some questions in the comments like "Can I ask, is it a genuine wired Xbox 360 controller and not the wireless version with the plug & charge USB cable?"
So, i got this, i think. Not wired at first. Is there something more to do when it's that case?
Hi you correct about using a wired controller instead of the wireless one since it's not supported.
To answer your problem, I think it's just the problem with the driver and Catalina.
Using my example, even though alpha 4-5 was suppose to work Mojave OS as claimed by the developer (but bless them since they are doing it for free). But it didn't work until I tried out the older version. I have read many other comments saying that its not working with Catalina no matter which driver version they tried, like yourself.
My speculation is that its simply buggy and needs further development for it to work.
I might be wrong but that's my guess at this stage based. on other reports and my experience (eg. this video).
That's another reason why I'm reluctant to upgrading my OS as it's likely to break stuff until it has had time for developers to release new drivers/fixes/support for Catalina.
U aint no Lam.. u da GOAT!!!
Not heard that one before! Thanks Dro!
It doesn't work for me. I am using a Xbox 360 Controller and Monterey 12.3.1 on a MacBook Pro 2015. I tried all versions from Alpha 2 to Alpha 6. Any suggestion?

Hey ummm, well the green light did appear on the receiver. but... the controller's keep searching for the receiver to connect. Any tips?
Hi. It sounds to me you’re trying to connect a wireless controller via the USB receiver. I don’t think it will work. This is from the developer:
“As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. Alternatively, you can revert to a macOS version before 10.11 to avoid this issue.”
which driver version should i use for macbook m2 air . I tried some of them and none of them worked and i am unable to uninstall the 360
Hey there. Unfortunately the driver isn’t compatible with the new macOS and Apple Silicon. 😔
You should be able to see the uninstall option if you click on the settings tab. Second or so page?
@@JoeLamOfficial ok thx for the reply
No worries, sorry I couldn't help any further at this stage.
I'm on 10.15.7 mac catalina and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I tried the 3 most recent ones and the 2 most recent ones it still said no devices available and the 3rd one didn't even install
Hi. There have been several reports that it doesn't quite work with Catalina. Have you tried 1.0.0-alpha.4 ? And also, what controller are you using?
Hi joe, I'm trying to connect a xbox360 usb port controller on my macbookpro (13 inch late 2015), the version is 10.14.6 (18G4032). I tried to use both the alpha 5 and alpha 2 but nothing is working :( :( any tips? or idea to try?
Hi Andrea. I'm running the exact same macOS as yours and using alpha 2 on my late 2013 MacBookPro. All I can say is that the driver is somewhat flaky since it's still under (constant) development. Can I ask, is it a genuine wired Xbox 360 controller and not the wireless version with the plug & charge USB cable?
Will the xbox 360 wireless racing wheel work on imac m1?
1. Haven't tried with the racing myself, but unlikely as I believe the racing wheel still uses the wireless connection? And 2. This driver definitely won't work with the M1 Apple Silicone chips for sure.
My mac says i don't need to update any software, but i tried reinstalling the old version, and both the new versions, but nothing worked
What version of macOS are you using?
Hey I have Mac 10.13.6 can I use a Xbox 360 wired controller with this ?
Hi in theory it should work. The github page mentions "This release requires macOS 10.11 or later." - github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases
Excuse me, how to solve the problem that the 12.6.2 of mac cannot run this driver normally? thanks
Hi Jack. Unfortunately the dev hasn't updated the driver for newer macOS for a while now and it's unlikely that they will update again based on their dev log. Only option for our newer Macs/macOS is to use a bluetooth controller it would seem.
Please what's the best version for catalina OS and xbox 360 controller wired usb
Hi,
sadly - it's unlikely to work with Catalina since the dev has stopped updating the driver - quote "As of December 28, 2020, there are not plans to add Big Sur support, including Apple Silicon support. It will most likely not work on Big Sur. (or later)"
github.com/360Controller/360Controller#installation
How would this work if I’ve bootcamped my Mac? Can I then just use windows drivers?
Yes just use Windows drivers. Probably will detect it just fine since it’s a Microsoft product. Assuming you’re using the wired USB version.
Hi,
I know this video is little bit old, but I have a question...
At 1:11, your system has locked "Drew Mills" from loading and he asked you if you want to allow... But my system don't show me this message... I just don't have a message :/
I'm in MacOS BigSur (11.1) and I have a Xbox 360 controller.
Hi there. Depending on the driver version you downloaded it might have changed and you’re using a different macOS to mine so that’s different also.
Are you using a wired 360 controller?
@@JoeLamOfficial Yes, I use a wired 360 controller
@@sylvain7550 fully wired or with the USB adapter, which is charging only and doesn’t carry data?
@@JoeLamOfficial Um that's a good question, I don't know if the wired is only charging or does carry data... But I think that can, because i saw another guys use this
Can you disconnect the cable from the controller?
I’ve tried like all of them, the joypad shows the light when connected, then it remains dead and unrecognized by the drivers software…
What macOS version are you running with?
@@JoeLamOfficial it’s 12.6 and I’ve tried like 80% of the drivers
I think your macOS is too for the driver. Unfortunately the dev hasn’t updated the driver for a while.
@@JoeLamOfficial that makes sadly sense…
I am looking into it lately to see if anyone or if it's possible to code something for the new Apple Silicon and macOS.
does the wireless work for a guitar I can't figure it out
Unfortunately no, it doesn't work. That's because the wireless module doesn't work with this driver. It's only meant for the USB wired version of the controller.
Does it work with the generic controller? (USB)
Hi Mel, I haven’t tried but I’m guessing not as this driver is specifically made for this controller only.
will this work with a wire xbox one controller in a mackbook pro 2020
No only Xbox 360 wired controller. If you want to use new Xbox one then you need to use Bluetooth version.
i update my m1 2020 to 13.2.1 and the alpha 5,6 doesnt work and the 4,3,2 cant find my wired xbox controller, how can i fix this. thank you so much
Hi. I think the issue is with a) macOS version and b) the Apple Silicone. Both of these isn't supported by this driver since the dev hasn't updated it for a long time unfortunately. =/
does this work with any controllers? I dont have a 360 xbox controller, i have a pdp xbox controller.
It does work apparently with any devices, i have an xbox one. My problem right now is that it says "No devices found". I am using a wired controller with an adapter to connect.
I haven't tried it with 3rd party controllers. When you say with an adapter. What adapter is that? And what macOS are you using?
im using an adapter so the shape can fit into my mac, and im currently using a 2022 macbook @@JoeLamOfficial
@@JoeLamOfficial i really wanna play in my laptop since my parents won't let me have a pc set up...
Can Xbox 360 controller connect to Macbook m2 in 2023?
I hate to bring bad news. It looks like the driver for the device may not be compatible with your macOS. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated by the developer in a while. 😔
This worked on the testing thingy. But, I can’t seem to connect it to the game I downloaded on steam. How do i do this? Huhu
Checked the settings in steam and in game?
Would this work on an M1 MacBook Pro?
Thanks.
Hi James. Sadly no. The dev hasn’t updated the Driver for quite some time. I have the same machine as yours. It doesn’t work. 😞
do u have to connect it with bluetooth first
No. It’s only works with USB wired version. Also even the wireless Xbox 360 controller doesn’t work with Bluetooth. It’s a different tech.
You can try with PS4 or Xbox One controller if you’re planning to use Bluetooth.
