I have 2 Shindaiwa trimmers a c27 and a s270 (both nearly identical) with U handles that are each over 30yrs old. They have ran flawlessly the entire time. Last yr I rebuilt and ordered extra parts while I could. They build stuff to break down nowdays trying to keep you buying new equipment rather than parts.
Just got one of these bad piston 20 bucks for it getting it fully rebuilt for my lawn care biz I heard ppl love these 85 trimmers about to find out no handle bars I don’t like that for just mowing
I found a FS85 today that’s missing the hand control it has a big bar on it to hold . It looks like it was used for industrial use definitely it doesn’t have gas but it sure turns over it’s missing the half of the hand control on the handle bars and also it’s missing the filter and plastic cover on the outside of the carb .I asked if I could have it they said it was to be thrown away or recycled for parts but I found a the parts for around $40 on eBay ! Any thing I need to watch for …. Looks like it was heavily used and looks like someone dropped it and didn’t want to bother fixing it but I found it brand new inline for $899 so it maybe worth fixing it also still have cutting plastic inside of it to cut so it was definitely working recently …… they said thanks for asking if I could have it …. I always find such amazing stuff by the dumpster no joke like amazing people moving seem to toss everything where I live ….. grills Lovesac’s electronics tools furniture plants it’s unbelievable but this looks like I can fix her up … any thoughts …… I can definitely buy a new one no problem but free is free .
That is awesome!! It is amazing what people will throw away. I have saved a lot of stuff from the dumpster and scrap yard. It sounds like that FS85 is a commercial one with what I’d call the “bull horns” handle bars. You’ll really enjoy using that beast! Thank you for watching and commenting!
So after doing research and taking apart literally the whole thing I found out mine has the handle bars it says 1995-1999 on it I put a new carb on it with bulb new gas lines and new fuel filter it’s still an FS85 just the old one I literally took every spec of oil grease off it including the cover and the blade shield the rotation shaft from the stock up and down if you know about these machines pretty well maybe I could send you a picture I use to do land scraping and I use to use a newer Fs 115 or something like that I forget the name but it was in the 100s worked well . But this one I have is very old and you can tell it was used for commercial use recently like I said I havnt started her up yet I’m literally about to put her back together right now . One problem the green ground wire broke off from what ever it was connected to it’s still connected to the important crimp. Lmk if you have an email or Instagram or fb
@@cannonballrepair7940 I literally just read this it wasn’t loading before my comment for some odd reason but you got it right on the button !!!!!! I’ve read and watch videos and these things are amazing from what I hear !!!!
Been using a husq 329 and a stihl fs70 rc ... this makes me want to pull on the fs85 and see if it still works. I grew up using the 85, and an older one my dad had i cant remember what it was. But boy that 85 sounds exactly like mine and i miss using it
I was actually able to get the 85 to fire up yesterday, but it desperately needs some sort of tuning. If I didn't see thus video. That thing would still be hanging in the garage today
I have a KM130R and, in all honesty, I don’t think I’ll own another 2 stroke trimmer. They have way more bottom end torque than 2 strokes. I do valve changes and repairs myself, so I don’t consider the “hassles” of 4 strokes to be a problem. Plus, the sound is easier on my ears than a 2 stroke trimmer.
A couple of days ago, I bought a Durocut 20-2 head and I’m running 0.155 line in it. You can really tell how much bottom end grunt it has now. In my original post, I said “valve changes”…I meant adjustments. It’s been running great for 13 years.
I wonder if some of these new models suffer from a non adjustable carb. My brother hates his 131 wants my fs85. I recently got another fs85 and it's carb was non adjustable aka no low hi screws. I have had other stihl equipment hit or miss on what carb. Just wondering if the 131 was the same or if something else is wrong with his almost new 131?? Hard to beat a good 2 cycle don't think I will buy a 4 mix while 2 strokes are still available. I do like my M18 fuel trimmer for small jobs but it's no fs85. Then again my fs85 us no B450 Shindaiwa lol.
the fs85 is definitely a cutting machine. Not sure if the clutch sound is normal, or if it’s from wear because my fs85 has barely been used from my grandfather, but the clutch sounds just like yours. so not sure if it’s normal or not.
Ok. Mine is still going strong. I know that some Stihl weed eaters have clutch problems but as long as it’s still pulling and not slipping I’ll just send it! lol Thank you for watching and commenting.
It appears that the fs85 whupped the fs 90. I would appreciate it if I could hear your instructions throughout your video. Appreciate you Bro.i own an fs 85 also. Thanks!

My Stihl dealer told me (after a few minutes) - “ buy the older 2 stroke while you can - less maintenance long term and cheaper to fix”
I agree. My local dealer has told me the same.
Aside from some work needed to get mine up and running the fs 85 is my pick
The fs 85 is a work horse!,light,a good string trimmer,no value adjustment
GREAT COMPARISON.WERE YOU MOWING LYING DOWN BEHIND THAT MOUNTAIN?HA,HA,INCREDIBLE!!!

Partial to the 2 stroke. Liked your side by side comparison. That's how I look sometimes but it's one Wacker, a beer ,and them red tailed wasps 😂.
Wilkerson's mower shop yeah I really like my FS85. Haha 😂 thanks!

Bush blade on the FS90R would be one cutting mama-jama!

I have an FS90 and the carburetor is adjustable. You will need to buy the right adjustment tool, as it is splined.
I loved the video you're really funny brudda I like them both.
Haha Thank you! It’s hard to beat a Stihl!

The clutches always do that.

I really can’t stand 4mix engines. It combines the worst of both engine types.
I agree. After using one for a while I’d much rather have the straight 2stroke. Thanks for watching.
I have a stihl 85. It is awesome but drinks fuel so fast
Lol! Great video!
What's the weight different ?
The FS90R is a little bit heavier than the FS85 but not by much.
Fs 90 got a little more torque for taller stuff
Wait i got a fs100rx in its 2 cycle
I bet that thing is a beast!
Yeah i bought it for 150 use
@@efrenvenegas3346 that’s a deal!! Had any trouble with it?
