As a kid who wanted a Dreamcast but never got one, I must have recorded and watched this ep. 100 times imagining what it would have been like to escape into the world of Phantasy Star Online and play Sonic Adventure 2.
I was 17 and would watch this every week at my friend's house since I didn't have cable. This later became Extended Play and then X-Play. If any of you that are the age range I was or younger, please cherish it because time goes fast.
Nostalgia overload. I had such a geek crush on Kate Botello back then.
A simpler time in gaming. No micro-transactions, no loot boxes, no DLC. These consoles were pure gaming machines, you pop in a game and play. I miss this era of gaming, I really loved my PS2, Gamecube and Xbox.
I agree, I don't think it's all nostalgia when I say this era was the best era in gaming. Graphics were still improving in leaps and bounds making it really exciting when there was a big breakthrough. No micro-transactions, DLC, or other annoyances and rip offs (map packs were still free for games on PC). No putting in a game and waiting a whole hour for updates to play. Games were also cheaper to make making more room for mid-sized developers who had the budget and lack of executive meddling to do something creative.
What really brings a nostalgia tear to my eye is them playing in the arcade. I remember the early 2000's being the end of when arcades were still cool and often boasted the best graphics in gaming at the time. I actually played some of the arcade games they were playing including the firefighter one.
Now, it seems like each generation becomes less exciting and more full of BS. I actually regret buying a ps4 even the best games I played on it weren't that great. Maybe It's because I'm an adult now and I'm too busy worrying about things like my career. Recently though, I dusted off my copy of Star Fox 64 and had a pretty great time, better than anything on my ps4 even DMC 5.
Sorry for the long rant, sometimes I just feel sad about what we used to have and I question what I'm supposed to do with my life now.
@@lightorchestrator I'm an adult too in my mid 30s. Gaming isnt the same for me like it used to from the mid 90s to early 2000s. Now I buy maybe 3 to 4 games a year and I don't always beat every game I buy. I miss being a kid going to the arcade or being amazed with how fast graphics were improving. I still remember being blown away by Halo CE, Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Solid 2, etc. I still plan on buying a PS5 because I'll always be a gamer at heart, but I think I'm a bit jaded now.
@@03chrisv I only had a ps2 during that generation but I still had fond memories of Halo CE. I played it recently and I'm still blown away by what they did at the time. I don't think falling out of love for gaming is that bad, as I'm 27 now and as I've gotten older I've discovered new joys. Don't be sad that it ended, smiled because it happened.
Then just do away with modern gaming and play the old stuff. Screw all this always online bull and micro transactions.
Disagree as someone who played those. Games were really cryptic and you needed a strategy guide for alot of them. They didn't have micro transactions like they do now but you still had to pay extra in a different way.
The good old days! With real review shows. Good games. Good hosts.
Did not affect ps2, infact ps2 is the best selling console of all time!
The best show on TV ever
EPICCC!!!!!!!
Is there a place to download all these older episodes?
Exactly WHEN did "GameSpot TV" become "Extended Play"?
I noticed by this point, they adapted the 1-5 rating system, but they were still calling themselves "GameSpot TV". I think the name change may have been on February 16, 2001, but I'm not even sure about that.
***** I just looked into it and you're right. The X-Play wikipedia page has a link to a press release (via the internet archive) announcing the name change dated February 13, 2001.
web.archive.org/web/20010301043758/www.techtv.com/extendedplay/story/0,23008,3311437,00.html
G4 Tech TV I believe I was the one who added that link to the wiki article.
So now the only other question, is: When they started using the 1-5 rating system? We know that TechTV took the place of ZDTV in August 2000. So we should check for episodes between August 2000 and January 2001.
2:00 Jeremy Jahns? 😳
Love how they're not afraid to rag on a game ahhh the good ole days when you could have an opinion
Nice time capsule of gaming. The reveal of Xbox and before the world knew Sega was leaving the first party console business.

Smackdown 2 Know Your Role is about having fun, it isn’t about graphics or realism.
Why is this awful youtube autocorrected camera on some of these vids
Sigh now this is a review show! Yeah I came from watching an ep of Xplay... I felt myself dying.
OMG Smackdown 2 got a 3 out of 5? 😤😤😤
“Microsoft is going to lay serious hurt on Sony.” -_____- 🤣
I cant believe that was said by the vp of epic games at that time.
Omg. Outdated.
