Freightliner Cascadia review. Is it a good or bad truck?
In this video we provide a little bit of freightliner history and give you our honest opinion about the Freightliner Cascadia. We talk about the Cascadia Evolution, eCascadia and give you some details of the 4 different engine types Freightliner offer: DD13, DD15, DD16 and Cummins ISX15 EPA.
The transmission varies as well. You have the:
- Detroit DT12 (automated manual)
- Eaton Fuller 8, 9, 10, 13, 15 and 18 speed (manual)
- Eaton Auto Shift 10, 13 or 18 speed (automated manual)
- Eaton Ultra Shift Plus 10, 13, 18 speed (automated manual)
- Allison 3000, 4000 and 4500 series (automatic)

I think it is a good truck though I have only driven a 2021 about 25,000 miles. I have also driven the Volvo VNL and Kenworth T680. The Cascadia that I was in had a sleeper with bunks and a DD15 engine. The engine was very quite and had plenty of power going up hills. The truck was in no way as smooth riding as the Volvo and Kenworth. The dashboard and layout of the the controls was great, one of my favorites. The sleeper was fine, but for me personally things did not seem to be as well designed as the other two trucks. The sleeper was larger then the other two trucks I drove, nice for teams. The truck turned very sharp making it easier to maneuver a trailer. It got good fuel efficiency, I believe I was getting about 8.8 mpg, this particular truck was set up for fuel efficiency. There were small issues like the radar sensor on the front of the truck going out at about 250,000 miles. The truck also seemed to do strange electrical things at times, just weird little things that would come and quickly go. Overall I think it's a good truck and probably has one of the best if not the best drive train with the Detroit. There are good reasons why they are so common. I can list issues with the other two trucks I drove as well, so they all have their strengths and weaknesses and then there is also personal preference as well as application.
