you won't find it boring if you get the very gist of erhu performances. i don't find it boring, i listen to it for almost every night. Czardas, interpreted by this man.
Truly praiseworthy, virtuoso performance, which captures that hard to define character of the csárdás, which at one moment wails in deep sorrow, and in the next turns into an insanely happy tune. As a Hungarian let me correct you stevencheung just a little bit. Although it's true that Hungarian classical music is now one of the most celebrated part of the western musical repertoir, yet the unique sound of traditional Hungarian music is anything but typical western music. -Cont.-
-Cont.- Somewhere buried in the cadences and tunes, a nation cultural heritage, which traces itself back somewhere from the Orient. According to the great Kodály and Bartók, that's where its roots are. In a way the music has found its way back home, into the capable hands of Chinese musicians.

It is amazing that this simple two strings musical instrument can produce such an overpowering sound. It best interprets the Czardas. Lucky that the skill of playing this instrument was preserved. Hopefully technique of playing the huge bronze bells musical erection can be unearthed someday.
why is it strange? It is an Erhu, a traditional chinese instrument, equivalent of the Western violin. IT has only 2 strings versus violin's 4 strings. See how much erhu can do with only 2 strings?

I didn't think it was possible ti play harmonics with the Erhu, but it kinds makes sense that this should be possible... Oh, I want to learn it too... I better learn Czardas on the violin first tho!
My guess is that by placing the qianjin so high up, it will be easier on the fingerings towards the very high notes. Otherwise, all the notes will be so close to each other towards the very high notes.
i disagree. erhu has a smaller resonator which limits its ability to express the sense of agressiveness. the skill of the player is what matter. but it's true that both make beautiful music.:-)

Mingming Violin Master Xu was the first erhu musician to record a completely western music CD about 30 years ago.

all I can say is WOW! I've been playing Czardas for a a few years and I've never heard it so full of emotion and done in this fasion
