I am Japanese. Please, do not believe that this represents Japan. The fact that Yasuke (the samurai!) is the protagonist is just one of the problems. The portrayal of Japan is completely inaccurate. The music is Chinese, the visuals are a mix of Chinese and Southeast Asian, and the cultural aspects, including the way people bow, are all incorrect. There are many things that even Japanese middle schoolers and elementary school students would find strange.

Don't get me wrong, I have very little hope in the game, the gameplay wasn't exactly as I pictured it, but AC music has (often) been modern things mixed with whatever was considered traditional or commonplace at the time, for example, Origins frequently used instruments reminiscent of the middle eastern area, along with electronic music. Mirage was similar as well. Jesper Kyd's scores for the games are blends of his modern stylings and instruments also associated with the time period. As long as it isn't pure trap I'm fine with the music.
I wonder if Yasuke knows how to parkour, because if he can't climb, then why do we need him at all, and I'm sure that ninety percent of all innovations have already been shown to us.

A big part of AC is exploring and parkour/climbing, Yasuke doesn’t have to involve that part with his combat, I’m sure all/most of his gameplay will be taking people head on but that doesn’t mean he will be limited to loads of the map just because of that reason. Hot take: as a person who played AC, AC II, AC III, AC Brotherhood, Revelations , Black Flag, Rogue and Syndicate I can confirm that this game is actually not that bad and I find the new game mechanics quite nice other than the weird parkour
@Dredguno I've tried that. The game is definitely not my style I don't appreciate being forced into a playstyle that revolves exclusively around parries. Ghost Of Tsushima is the closest I can get to a ninja tenchu like game with way less interesting characters. Also is there even stealth in Sekiro?
As much as Ubisoft has been messing up at least they’re giving us two options. The traditional Assassin and an rpg devoted character within the franchise.
I thought this setting would force Ubisoft to create all new buildings and assets but they look like odyssey with a slight change. I hope we can call allies to help but I doubt it.

It really bothers me how the helmet goes away when talking to NPCs but not in cut scenes. Hope it’s not a permanent thing or you can toggle it in the options hopefully. They should also bring back kill chains from the original . Should make it like a max skill or something.

All I wanted was a ninja game. Naoe plays exactly as I always imagined a ninja(assassin) would. Yasuke honestly was a waste of time. This could've been her game and I would've been happy.

There are two very popular animes out about his character (e.g. Afro Samurai, Yasuke) that are running currently so no you're wrong. I don't necessarily agree with their decision to make him the main character, but I don't think it was because they're trying to be woke either. I think they just wanted to capitalize on his current popularity- and it's an easy way to include a protagonist that can also give you that "fish out of water" perspective. Everyone and their mom's seemed to like the Shogun TV show when it came out, but I guess it's ok when it's a white person who's the main character.
You may complain the gameplay, historical accuracy etc... but Ubisoft always brought a beautiful places, not like other games. Even if its a same country or place, Ubi always got the best atmosphere imo... It always gave me a nostalgic feelings with their background music and places.
The gameplay looks pretty fun. My only gripe has to be with how easily the armor becomes dislodged, even with a katana. I hope they tone that down, cause it'll surely get tiresome.

This game looks promising. I love majority of what I saw. My few critiques are: I think Naoe’s voice actress sounded too bland, even though I know it’s an assassins creed game and not a samurai game I do wish that the parry was more similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and I feel like some movements were stiff like swimming and opening the door. I am aware it’s a work in progress, but those are the few things that I hope they work on. I’d like features in the game like bowing, and hopefully we get to customize our characters. All in all I’m super excited for this and I hope this AC game can stand along side games like Ghost of Tsushima because I know the comparisons will be there.

I'm not sure if this game is about that man or just a fabrication using Yasuke as an argument for how a black man from Mozambique could arrive in japan. i think people (outside of any actual racists) complain because it may seem forced or cherry picked, not because they (ubisoft) "care" to represent the only known black man to become a samurai. kind of like what's happening with disney and it's forced DEI casts and race-swapping of already established characters. while this game isn't a race-swap, it mirrors the same attitude of "for the sake of inclusivity" and not actually caring about representing this rare instance in history. maybe people wrong about this game. maybe those that worked on it actually care about diversity and representation. i have no idea their true intentions.

It seems to me that AC isn't really the franchise for you then! AC is normally the definition of "Ha ha, Stealth!?" tries to be stealthy and usually fails, going for combat galore! And Odessey is the Black Sheep in this, instead of 40/60 on stealth and combat it has gone full in on combat with "stealth" as a bonus, a game like Odessey will probably never happen again...

Ghost Of Tsushima is the closest I can get to a ninja tenchu like game with way less interesting characters. Also is there even stealth in Sekiro?

It really bothers me how the helmet goes away when talking to NPCs but not in cut scenes. Hope it’s not a permanent thing or you can toggle it in the options hopefully. They should also bring back kill chains from the original . Should make it like a max skill or something.
Maybe the cutscene was edited to have him without the helmet to show off the facial animations for this gameplay showcase or something like that... I'm probably wrong

There are two very popular animes out about his character (e.g. Afro Samurai, Yasuke) that are running currently so no you're wrong. I don't necessarily agree with their decision to make him the main character, but I don't think it was because they're trying to be woke either. I think they just wanted to capitalize on his current popularity- and it's an easy way to include a protagonist that can also give you that "fish out of water" perspective. Everyone and their mom's seemed to like the Shogun TV show when it came out, but I guess it's ok when it's a white person who's the main character.

You may complain the gameplay, historical accuracy etc... but Ubisoft always brought a beautiful places, not like other games. Even if its a same country or place, Ubi always got the best atmosphere imo... It always gave me a nostalgic feelings with their background music and places.

The gameplay looks pretty fun. My only gripe has to be with how easily the armor becomes dislodged, even with a katana. I hope they tone that down, cause it'll surely get tiresome.
the game looks really good, fighting sequences need to be cleaned up a bit and the facial animations tuned a bit but other than that it looks really good for being still worked on. Christ, I'm surprised Ubisoft put out gameplay footage knowing they would be clowned on

And I think everyone's giving too much hate toward the game. AC is historical fiction and fantasy. It's not meant to be completely accurate and never was.

This game looks promising. I love majority of what I saw. My few critiques are: I think Naoe’s voice actress sounded too bland, even though I know it’s an assassins creed game and not a samurai game I do wish that the parry was more similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and I feel like some movements were stiff like swimming and opening the door. I am aware it’s a work in progress, but those are the few things that I hope they work on. I’d like features in the game like bowing, and hopefully we get to customize our characters. All in all I’m super excited for this and I hope this AC game can stand along side games like Ghost of Tsushima because I know the comparisons will be there.

i think people (outside of any actual racists) complain because it may seem forced or cherry picked, not because they (ubisoft) "care" to represent the only known black man to become a samurai. kind of like what's happening with disney and it's forced DEI casts and race-swapping of already established characters. while this game isn't a race-swap, it mirrors the same attitude of "for the sake of inclusivity" and not actually caring about representing this rare instance in history.
maybe people wrong about this game. maybe those that worked on it actually care about diversity and representation. i have no idea their true intentions.

Some of them were somewhat historically accurate, while others were not.

Those combat animations that they've shown are janky as hell. It's like the characters just snap into position instead of looking like there's any weight behind their slashes.

AC is normally the definition of "Ha ha, Stealth!?" tries to be stealthy and usually fails, going for combat galore! And Odessey is the Black Sheep in this, instead of 40/60 on stealth and combat it has gone full in on combat with "stealth" as a bonus, a game like Odessey will probably never happen again...
