As somebody who runs Red/White Weenie Aggro and won 5-0 at a local Modern tourney, I can confirm it’s so funny to rush an opponent and kill them by Turn 4.
there are two kinds of players in MTG. blue players that just sit there giggling as they don't let you play the game, and everyone else that hates them.

Here you go little buddy, you can have all these on the board for free. You want to have lands? Here’s green to ramp and blue draw to make sure you never miss a land drop.”
Against these types of blue decks, you want to get as many different creatures on the battlefield as possible as soon as possible, so playing two cheap creatures is much better than playing a single expensive one. Then, once you're on the field and slowly hitting them down, you start playing your big spells, because even if they counter that big spell you're still ahead on board. Basically, blue is great at dealing with any single problem, but not so much multiple problems at once. So present multiple threats and you're likely to overwhelm them.
@@Shendue It's really decision making about sequencing mid game. She had the chance to play two creatures, but said it was wrong and played a single 3/3. That's not going to work out. After getting those two down, she should look to get the planeswalker down, as most bounce-spells don't hit planeswalkers, so that is another way to acrue value and keep a board presence.
To be fair, either her deck was pretty bad or she was extremely unlucky. By turn 8 she'd got only two forests and almost exclusively green cards. And no 1st drops for what looks like a creature-oriented deck. It would be almost unwinnable situation against every decent opponent (unless they were equally unlucky).
Could've been a shuffler moment tbf. Didn't see the initial hand, so can't say if she should've considered a mulligan, but I've had times where the game straight up doesn't want to give me lands. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm pretty sure that's historic or timeless and since this was a while ago I'm leaning towards the former. Playing pile of cards into sweaty tryhard format isn't going to go well even if this particular pile of blue cards isn't very good
The worst is playing against a bad mill deck. The reason I say bad is because I have had good mill decks completely drain my draw pile in like 3 turns which just makes me say "damn his deck was good". but I have also been in 20-30 min games where I end up winning after the dude just counters/kills everything I play and he makes me mill like 3 cards every turn. I also used to straight up just leave non ranked matches after confirming that they were a blue/black murder counter deck. I would rather just lose then play a 30 minute non ranked match against that BS

She was playing draft (and even went 8-0 iirc) before this match. This was supposed to be the last match before she played something else and, well, you see how it turned out.
@@Izandaia It is possible to have decks like this in a Cube Draft but yeah this was some random Historic deck she was playing that looks like just a bunch of stuff from the DnD-Midnight Hunt sets. I assume she doesn't play often and that's just some standard deck she played a year ago. She did go 7-1 in a draft league (best of 1 matches) before this but the deck was very different. Her opponent here isn't playing a tier deck but they're certainly playing stronger cards like Bowmasters. The problem she had was her mana base was fighting her as she had a grip full of green cards but only 1-2 forests. Against these tempo decks looking to bounce everything you do back to your hand the best thing to do is produce threats faster than they can answer them and only being able to play 1 creature a turn doesn't allow that so the opponent just kept disrupting her while they deployed cheap but efficient threats to slowly chip away while they returned everything she had.
And sure, mechanically there might not be that much difference between a card getting countered and a card getting blown up by a lightning bolt immediately after being played. But the blue counter FEELS worse. With the lightning bolt at least I got to play the card. With blue it's like you go to play the card and then before it even touches the board you get slapped on the wrist and told "no, fuck you, only I get to play magic today."
Nah we need better counterspells, we get rare creatures with walls of text that take over the game and the counterspells are all uncommons that go one for one, the best part of magic is passing the turn and countering all your opponent's stuff
Control is the best thing on planet earth, more like. Besides, the person from the video seemed more tempo-based than control. If it were me, I wouldn't even bounce your stuff, I'd just remove it or even board wipe.
This isn't control it's tempo. The goal is to play cheap creatures and cheaper disruption to trip you up as they steadily close out the game. A control deck sits back countering major threats while wiping the battlefield of the cheaper stuff as they generate card advantage. It's way worse to play against than tempo cause tempo decks struggle once you get your footing but a control deck can reset the game and take the wheel basically. A control deck is comfortable winning with 1-2 hp basically while tempo decks are more glass cannony
I only ever played 1 game of magic A big box we turned into a draft game with 2 friends that were tourney players, 3 casuals, and me I got lots of blue and some white I beat both of those tournament players, not because I was good, but because they couldn't kill me before they ran out of cards "Of course the blue players wins those" ill never forget the salt
Hell played a 2 hour game today because the asshat slapped a counter on a land that could become a creature that stated "put a counter on a creature that has you cant lose the game and your opponents cant win the game" i kept wiping my own board to cut down on lag, had 350+ health and hex proof with a portal to phyrexia otf, honestly surprised they kept trying to play since i mainly was waiting to draw a corrosive ooze to destroy the land with that counter on it.
Look you can't expect ANYTHING to resolve if blue has 2 untapped mana. If they do, you just have to assume the first 1-2 things you play are gonna get counterspelled or whatever.
Rosemi should really have played multiple creatures a turn if it's against blue decks. You have to overwhelm them instead of showing them more creatures you potentially CAN'T play due to mana restrictions.
Resident blue player here to mention that these kind of decks don't win tournaments If they keep trading one for one you'll win, just keep playing the worst card in your hand, so they don't know when to counter
I hate playing against blue that's why I always have anti blue decks uncounterable spells green ramp that puts me several turns ahead of them protection from blue.
I’d like to point out that if you don’t want to create more blue deck players, go easy on your friends who are just getting into the game. My red/white and green/black user friends annihilated me and drove me to play a deck that could survive them.
Oh god yes, because I am a recovering Blue deck player. Blue decks basically a a stack of ‘No’ and ‘I choose to ignore that’, all at a lower cost of Mana. Downside of Blue is that it doesn’t have a ton of damage output, but who needs damage if you can churn the opponents deck and make it useless.
Blue is annoying in a unique way. At least with other decks that summon unkillable monsters the monster is cool, Blue is basically a politician. Doesn't do much, but whenever you try to do something to get ahead they shut you down, until you run out of resources and die
Green wins by summoning a bunch of big monsters and hitting you until you die. Red wins by hitting you with their bare fists until you die Black wins by stabbing themselves and then bleeding on you until you die. White wins by hitting you with 10,000 little guys until you die (or 16 angels) Blue wins by not letting you play the game.
I tried playing MTG arena the other day, I didnt get half of what was happening, I tried the starter deck duels thinking, the best way to learn is by playing and if my opponents are also using set decks I at least wont be destroyed because we're on an even playing field, turns out I was wrong, and I got my ass beat like 17 times without understanding why or how I lost, it was great, I hate it (Is joke, I think im just stupid, I cant figure out how the game plays or mechanics intertwine for the life of me, I do think the game should try and do a better job of explaining what is going on, instead of just expecting you to know, because even after the tutorial, I still dont get anything, and I feel if i was able to learn Yu Gi Oh through Master Duel, then I should be able to learn MTG through Arena, but after trying it for a few hours, it just feels like im just banging my head against a brick wall)
Very relatable but I went in the other direction. From knowing MTG to learning vanguard. Not to say Vanguard is a complicated game but it’s like when you learn another language and your brain keeps trying to English the other language
