Per Sjøberg this was 1990 at the Warhol exhibition in France, only Lou and john were gonna play but moe and Sterling showed up to see the art and installation
Thanks for posting this, what an amazing document of a film. They've not played together for almost 20 years & can still sound great. The Velvets, Lou, John, Sterling & Maureen, are to the alternative Rock fan what John, Paul, George & Ringo (The Beatles, of course; just for those who might not know them on a first name basis) are to everyone else. Someone once said (or wrote) that. Great stuff. Thank you so much.
I remember seeing this on tv when I was a kid. I had no clue who they were, they just seemed like some old irrelevant band to me at the time. Lou Reed's mullet and guitar seemed so cheesy, but to a lot of people older than me, it was a huge deal and I could never understand why. When the MCMXCIII album came out, it was another big deal and I still didn't get it (I also didn't get Dylan at the time). It took me years to finally get what made them (and Dylan) so great and I regret not having the appreciation to understand what a big deal this was at the time. The folly of youth (aka, stupidity).
*LMAO* at "Lou Reed's mullet and guitar"! HAHAHAHAHAHA!! I first heard 'White Light/White Heat' in 1986 (grade 10), and it blew me away! Took a couple of listens for me to embrace their first album - wish I could have listened to their albums in ad seq. order - but when it hit me! Holy shitskies! Their self-titlled release (sans Cale) was love at first go. Fourth album ('Loaded') took quite a few listens to get me to dig on it. I was already familiar with 'Sweet Jane' and 'Rock & Roll'; I loved 'Who Loves The Sun' (a cynical response to 'Here Comes The Sun') right off. "Lou Reed's Mullet" would be a funny song title... an instrumental.
Weird! The Velvets playing out in the daylight, Not the way I remember them. Met Lou & the band in about "68 in Chicago, little club called the Quiet Knight. What fun!
This was in 1990, when they met at an Andy Warhol retrospective in France, where Reed & Cale were to perform Songs For Drella, & Morrison and Tucker happened to be there, as it's clear from this TV news broadcast. You are confusing it with the European Reunion tour 3 years later, in 1993, which they decided to do after this impromptu performance
Damn, I was there and it rocked! Thanks for posting.
This was in '93, and i was there! Saw them when they played at Roskilde. Needless to say it was one the most amazing performances I ever witnessed.

Wow - I never noticed before that Moe was carrying an album by Pulnoc towards the end. I have that recording on cassette, of all things. :)
John Cale and Lou Reed played music live for free that day, no one knows if the rest of the band did. Thank you for this upload.
I remember seeing this on TV. I thought I was hallucinating.
yup.... it must have been surrealistic to be there.... really good video
