It sounds like Yahtzee feels a great deal of affection for Luigi. Then again, who doesn't?
***** yeah but then he knocked up his girl so i think it balances out
I wouldn't say so. Remember how Super Mario Bros 2 was a dream? And Luigi was a playable character? Luigi was also able to jump higher in that game.
Mario is the guy who jumps. He was at one point called "Jumpman." But when he dreamed, his brother surpassed him in the very thing that defined him.
Mario sometimes comes across as a jerk. But if anything, Luigi is his soft spot. Being a bad sport in one cutscene of a spinoff seems more like Mario was having a bad day than anything else.
Going on looks alone, I'd rather have Mario.
But then, to each their own.
Komnenos Nintendo...
Komnenos Yahtzee explained in Dream Team review that he likes Luigi for his personality compared to Mario's lack of a personality.
Luigi? A coward? Yo, he is CLEARLY terrified by ghost but he STRIVES ON REGARDLESS to save his brother! That is bravery imo
true that is true bravery being scared shitless but moving ahead anyway
Looking at it that way, Mario isn't brave but an arrogant moron.
I am okay with this.
it funny to see this deep comments on a zero punctuation vid
One cannot be brave without having fear
You can add another personallity for Luigi in Mario Kart 8.
Really pissed all the time.
sd
+Darkgun231 Nothing prompted that.
Gandalf The White Oh, you're right, I must have posted this here by accident, I meant to put it elsewhere. Thanks for the help, Gandalf.
it's k :D
+Nat K Even himself.
If I had a dime for every game Yahtzee likes, I'd have enough to buy a King sized Snickers
ECL28E
You might have a lot more than that actually. I think your best bet would be 'if I had a dime for every game Yahtzee actually stays positive for most of the review' yada yada yada. His tactic is that, as a critic, he's the 'Negative Nancy' of any reviewer, and so when he actually makes a legit compliment towards a game (be it amazing graphics, wonderful gameplay or something of that nature) it sticks out a lot more in the viewer's mind. He actually likes some of the games that he pushes under the bus.
+ECL28E I have wondered why this didn't get on one of the best games of 2013 list? He didn't try to wreck it badly and he seemed to actually like the game rather than throw it underneath the 50 ton roller wheeled bus. His MGR, Tomb Raider (2013) and Last of Us reviews had the games seem like they were unlikely to get on his list. Which was true, MGR was the only fifth game of the year out of the three games.
Rewatching almost his entire back catalog recently and I found he actually likes games more often than his reputation implies. It's more that he doesn't "love" many games and even ones he likes he'll be really nitpicky about
Yahtzee - "In Super Paper Mario he was the greatest being who ever lived."
Me: Which is a damn shame from what we seen so far he is not in Paper Jam. Hopefully that might mean Mr.L will come back.
+Jay M (JokerJay779) Mr. L coming back is WAAAAAAY too good an idea to actually happen.
ThrillingDuck
Unfortunately that seems to be true.
*****
Indeed. But yet Mr. L did not appear and Paper Luigi just gets a cameo in the fucking sound test.
How about Mr.L or the Koppa bros. as secret charaters or both in Paper Jam. That would be awesome and with that they would had more Paper enemis.
Too much cluttered story, so unique characters were cut in favor of normal character interactions.
After looking the Mario move I get a hunch that Nintendo borrowed the plumbing accident joke for the movies intro
my favorite defiance fake curse word is "Skruggin" as soon as she said it me and my friends died laughing because it was such a dumb sounding word that we were shocked that she didnt even giggle a bit while saying it, go ahead and share your favorite dumbass curse words
+Bread Neko Whoever wrote that went to the Futurama school of made up curses. Only the difference is that Futurama is aware of how utterly stupid their made up swears are.
+Bread Neko Dingus, Poshwacker, Whapper, Jack, Hacker, Nicker, Nickers, Gerkin, Gerkus, Hopfus, Raucous little wit.
I mean who wouldn't have sex with Luigi? He'd be so gentle. Though I'd demand he wear the Mr. L outfit
Uhhhh
He'd be a bottom for sure.

+Mr. Chang
Daisy's definitely ontop in that relationship.
he goes under a personality change when he wears it: he suddenly becomes the assertive belt-wielding dominant type
I think Yahtzee's man-crush on Luigi has gotten out of hand O_o
You see: I think it hasn't gone far enough.
I'm glad he like Underdog Sibling's Villas. Like he said, aside from the sequelitis rigmarole, it's a very enjoyable game.
Yahtzee's complaints about the 3DS's shape being rough on the hands holds valid in my eyes. I try playing a game for more than a half hour and the sides of hands go numb. I do, however, have the Circle Pad Pro for my XL and the grip for it is more fitting for how you hold a controller. Bad news on that is that it's only on the Nintendo store and is $25 with shipping and I only own one game that supports it.
Luigi is best green plumber guy.
This brings up a good point, by comparison does Mario even have a personality?
MONSTER743 psychotic I believe
MONSTER743 Mario strikers did it once
He's kind of a classic audience surrogate like Tintin. Pleasant, dedicated to his friends, but humble. He's heroic because it's the right thing to do, not out of any particular interest in heroism. That's why even though he's become increasingly famous and well-regarded by the Mushroom Kingdom as the franchise has progressed, he doesn't indulge his fame at all. He's just a good-hearted guy who gets into adventures.
This contrast also goes to make Luigi's inferiority complex all the more amusing.
One of the things that polarized me MOST about luigi's mansion 2 was the decision to put it on the 3DS. I'd imagine with the Wii U you could have full control of the vacuum and do all sorts of fun shit with that, but I never really knew that stereoscopic 3D was going to be in the original and it was cut due to hardware limitations. That's kinda what explained the release on the 3DS to me, I am still hoping for a Luigi's Mansion HD.
LM2 was made to be an experiment as to what devs are able to do with the 3DS.
TheLegendOfJoey I guess that makes sense too, but to a same extent why wasn't it put on the wii U to experiment what you could do with Wii U technology? I mean, again like I said it was a launch title for the Game cube and again was going to have stereoscopic 3D
I really liked Dark Moon. It improved on the original in every way. The mummies and knights are super fun to fight.
Personally, I like to imagine that Mario is actually snarky and a bit of a grouch.
+Alex Panciera Me, too. The guy's almost as goofy as his brother, and is quick to make it clear when he's tired of Luigi's BS.
I also like to think he's really good with kids while Luigi isn't. Mostly because of the scene with Gaz in SMRPG.
+Bob Stayoffthegrass partners in time had baby luigi and luigi interecting a whole lot more then mario and baby mario
luigi even gave baby luigi a cookie
DrShoe Canpyrotoo Hm, good point. Maybe they're both super-great daddies.
I'd be a bit of a grouch too if Nintendo called me every couple of months and told me to do random shit for what, the last 32 years? Mario's done everything from beat up gorillas to shoot rabbits. I think the only genre he hasn't done at this point is survival horror.
Then you'd like "There Will Be Brawl"
I have ALWAYS been a fan of Luigi over Mario. Glad to see someone else share the opinion.
Incidentally, Yahtzee... it's... been a while since you've had a woman, hasn't it? It's rather beginning to show.
Dear RUclips/Google:
Enough with the lucky charms commercials. It has gotten to the point where I get legitimately angry every time that 30 second unskippable buffering thing shows up, and it's the ONLY AD I'M GETTING.
I'm only commenting this because I know SOMEONE is looking through these things and I'd appreciate it if I could get a little variety now and then with these things.
Have you ever played Mario: The Music Box? It's a fan game, but it's actually not shit. Both brothers are in it, and they both have personalities. It was almost strange.
its not terrible but it gets cheesy, takes a little TOO much inspiration from other horror rpg maker games, and the bros look weird next to regular humans. if you love the bros so much that you want to hurt them though, its gr8
You can ease off to avoid attacks, yes. But by pressing the B button when sucking up a ghost, you can dodge attacks. It will drain your suction meter, though, in addition to not doing any damage for the brief time you're dodging.
Luigi is my favorite Mario character
He's everyone's favorite (don't anyone dare try and change my opinion
I like Yoshi mostly because of all the things he goes through for absolutely no reward besides death.
Me too guys.
***** And then that smile he had with "Touch me" under it in Super Mario 64 DS was amazing.
I like Wario.
Blushing Yahtzee is mysteriously cute.... >.>
You should hear Yahtzee genuinely crack up. It's double rainbow worthy.
Oda Swifteye all the way across the sky?
TheSingleRider Yes.
Oda Swifteye that's so intense........
***** It will be his friend's playthrough (titled as a lets play) of a game called Normality. It's on his channel Yatzhee19 I believe. The fourth one is where it happens.

What was the reason?

@@aelechko I forgot about this, thanks for reminding me
If they ever get around to actually making a final Mario game, I would just love it, if it turned out that Mario is actually the villain and Bowser kidnapping Peach was in fact political marring between the Mushroom and Koopa Kingdoms that Mario keeps fucking up. And every Mario game before this was actually some sort of delusion being acted out by an insane plumber that inhaled too much drain cleaner.
I doubt nintendo would potray their main icon as such, much like Yahtzee aclaimed in this video in being too scared to give him a personality. I do like your thinking though.
Caspianm2 I would love to see Mario with some actual development, and an actual personality.
James Reid ...Which Nintendo will likely never do. I would love to see it as well but it just seems extremely unlikely.
Caspianm2 Yeah. I'm tired of that guy's muteness. I want him to be a f***in' CHARACTER, for once.
They might as well, they gave his brother a bit of character with his games, and the Game Theorists had a little argument for Luigi porking Peach this whole time in the 2nd Rosalina episode.
I bought this; played this, and I also wondered "Why the hell is Luigi the only character with an actual personality, and not just a cycle of emotions?"
2:17
I recalled this part when I saw a walrus at an aquarium today ! I couldn’t get it out of my head !
Someone aknowlaged Super Paper Mario! THANK YOU YAHTZEE!
In conclusion: Yahtzee is gay for Luigi.
Welcome aboard!
I always thought of Luigi the same way I think of Monk's older brother. More impressive skills but unable to use them due to personality flaws (low self esteem, due to Mario, and being a cowered).
No vitriol? Well, I guess I'll step up to the plate.
Yes, Dark Moon was good, but it also lost at least two important features from the first. Actually, I'll say three.
First, the controls for aiming your vacuum and movement are no longer smooth tank controls, but a weird button game of vertical alignment.
Second, in the original game, your surplus profits (and indeed, all of your profits) went towards buying a sweet house. There was a nice picture of your estate, which admittedly isn't much, but at least gives you some sense that the Wall Street-esque lust for more currency was all worth it.
Third, the first game had Portrait Ghosts, who were clearly actual dead people, adding some personality, backstory, and darkness. Here you just get an upgrade to the same jerks, but veinier somewhere near the middle of the game.
Finally, I miss the detailed closeups of Luigi's hands fumbling with doorknobs, but maybe that's just my latent homoeroticism.
I will defend Luigi's personality as being fairly consistent as a whole, though. You catch him in varying levels of self-confidence and moods, but he's generally clumsy, cowardly, well-meaning, but catastrophically unlucky. However, he's a demonstration that courage is not the absence of fear, and will go through whatever he has to when there are real stakes, and is surprisingly competent when he does.
Yahtzee who finally likes a nentendo game? I have had all my Christmases have come at once :D
He liked Splatoon fairly enough
+pokemonmanic3595 oh yeah that too X- D
Surely he liked Pokemon Red or Blue or whatever
Windwaker and Majora's Mask
Don’t forget Metroid Prime (and 2 and 3)!

Feel free to argue that DK should've been here and please tel me if I forgot anyone.
Get the XL version, it has rounded corners.
Ah yes, because XL is exactly the kind of size one should make a "portable" "handheld" game system
@@darkartsdabbler2407
2DS XL when folded has about the same size as a smartphone though.
The mittens analogy was hilarious to picture
He does have a point . The gamecube controller was fantastic (especially the wavebird ) so why are all their newer products so uncomfortable to hold?
Now that I think about it the game cube controller was good .
You would wouldn't you.
SNES, N64, GC and then Nintendo decided not to reward our hands any more.
My youtube window automatically jumped when the mustache popped in around 2:30. I laughed very long and hard about that
3:11 "gosh it's getting awfully hot in here" xD
Love the sending yoshi into a pit for the sake of a double jump bit.
I played this when it first came out, beat it in two weeks and then I was done with it. There was just nothing to keep me coming back. It's a great concept for a game, but I don't know why Dark Moon is so well regarded with as little content as there is. I definitely preferred the Metroidvania progression of the first game (plus a ton of ghost bosses with personality!). Hopefully someday soon Nintendo will make it easy to revisit it.
Would you look at that? The original is getting remade.
Just realized how long I had to scroll down on escapists "most viewed videos" to find a video that wasn't Yahtzees. Gotta love him!
The first boss of this game was perfect
Know what my fantasy swearing is? Literally the word "cussword." Like "Oh cusswords, I stubbed my toe!"
Luigi > Mario. Period.
Same here
both suck
nooben945
So characters with brown hair same face and same beards with no personalities are the best?
let me reprase that nintendo sucks
nooben945
Tell me terrible current gen Nintendo games
If you go to their website you can watch the latest episode one week earlier before it's released on youtube
I don't really like the idea of this game. I liked how everything to explore in the original was one big mansion, and how it almost seemed metroidvania how you would explore its halls. This one seems to ditch that and make it levels
It's frustrating to me how no matter what mission you're in, parts of the mansions will be blocked off, and at no point can you free roam.
1:04 Then, everything changed when the Inklings attacked
Haha, this is brilliant. Subscribed.
And in Mario+Rabbits Luigi is a cold and silent killer ready to snipe any living being who even slightly move within 100 m...
why didn't you put this on your top 5 games of 2013? I'm just wondering I mean you didn't say in your reviews that mgrr, tomb raider and the last of us was that good, we're both fully aware that Luigi's mansion 2 is quite good.
I love Ashens and Yahtzee, they always have such great snarky things to say and you learn lots of great English slang.
So here Yahtzee complains about made-up swear words, and in his review of the new Thief he complains that nobody says "taffer" anymore, but drops f-bombs. Hmm...
The original Thief games had their own made up slang instead of just fake swear words. It was kind of charming and made the world seem more real. Defiance just has fake swear words because even though it's M rated, it's based on a tv show (even though tv hasn't been relevant for ten years and won't EVER matter again) and thus has to follow tv's archaic profanity laws. It doesn't add anything to the world. They're just there.
TheGeoshark That response is completely biased. As someone who doesn't give a toss about either I can decisively say that it sounds fucking idiotic in both cases.
The golden rule for swear words is that they need to be a snappy, easy to throw out words that express disatisfaction. Shit and Fuck... Taff is like saying fuck. Snappy, easy to throw out and message comes across just fine.
2:45 Silly Yahtzee! It wasn't a toilet accident!
It was a bathtub.
You agree with Game Theroy?
Ragnarok is originally the event on Norse mythology that signifies the Apocalypse. It was then popularized as a sword by RPGs, the first one in my mind being FFIV, which had it as the best weapon for Cecil.
TAFF!
I love the idea of Luigi just screaming in sheer terror when he and his brother get sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom.
Drinking game: every homoerotic reference take a shot
Kinda funny that yahtzee was against made up swear words before writing two whole books using them
My main issue with this game was how utterly shit the boss fights were. The first fight against the spider was good, the fight against big Buu was decent, but the rest were shit. A turret section in a Luigi's Mansion? With shitty motion controls? Who the hell thought of that train wreck? Not to say that all the bosses in the original were gold, but they at least gave the bosses personality, atmosphere and had some interesting ideas behind them.
***** Yes there are. You need to tilt the 3DS to aim the flashlight/vacuum (As well as the turret in that stupid boss fight), and you also need to hold the 3DS steady to move across beams. Those are absolutely motion controls.
***** Excellent idea, that way, I won't be able to aim the Flashlight or Vacuum at all! Why not just turn the game off while I'm at it?
***** I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. There's no way to aim the Flashlight or Vacuum without the fucking motion controls. Moreover, you also can't do the stupid balancing sections without the motion controls.
imaloony8 Actually, pressing X will aim your vacuum/flashlight up, and B will aim them down. It's still a little awkward, but it's entirely optional. I'm pretty sure there's an alternative for the balance sections too, although I can't remember it.
The real problem is you can't turn the motion sensor off, so in a bumpy car ride the view can jerk all over the place sometimes, especially in the window peeping sections. Still, this has never been more than a minor annoyance for me, even though I mostly play in moving vehicles. Give the game another shot, it's worth it.
theparkourhobo Oh no, you misunderstand; I played the game start to finish, and I DID enjoy it, but I also had serious problems with it, the largest of which being the really awkward controls, the terrible boss fights, and the mission structure (It was much more fun when the mansion was free-roam). I would recommend it for some people to try... but probably not buy at its retail price.
the main thing i remember is that piano music, god it is so freaking catchy
I just don't get how holding a wii mote or a 3ds is painful....................
Speaking as a guy whose got some pretty big hands himself, I can relate. The 3DS kinda does dig into the palms a bit, and the Wii U gamepad really is huge and a little awkward to manage.
Hmm OK fair eanough
ShatterPalm I agree with you on the 3ds, but in my opinion the Wii U gamepad is very comfortable.
I never said it wasn't comfortable, I said it was awkward. Trying to use the touchscreen on some games proves tricky when you have to balance the damn thing on one hand and draw with the other.
***** You confused who was saying what, I was saying it's fine and ShatterPalm was saying they hurt
sometimes I am curious of what the inside of Yahtzee's mind is but then again that's probably one spot that's best left unexplored
wait... he has the ability to like a game?
Not the first time he's liked something. In his earlier videos, he's stated that he enjoys Portal, and recently he's been giving praise to Dark Souls 1 and 2. So much with the Souls series that he's been mentioning them in other videos.
Have you seen his skyrim video?
you should watch his Psychonauts video
he also likes wind waker too
And his Portal review
I agree all of those games that are horror or mature shooting games can get tiring so it's nice to switch happy and positive games
This is the first of your videos i have watched. you sir just earned yourself a new subscriber.
Honestly, this is the game that has made me actually consider getting a 3DS. I just recently got my hands on the original and absolutely loved it. It's been a long time since I've loved a game for the gameplay alone.
I think it will also be the first time I will actually play through the harder second run version of the game.
I really like this game. Sure, it's not for everyone, especially the hard core platformer fans of Mario, but for me the slower puzzle bits are quite satisfying to solve and build up nicely to the ghost-catching aspect. Nothing is like the feeling you get when catching a whole bunch of ghosts at once, I think.
2:45 Yeah that's explained in the movie, You guys should watch it is really gooooooooooooooood
Oh Luigi, you loveable lug, you. Every game you're where you're not P2, you are my favourite character
I totally agree with the stupid Toad missions, and the fact that you only get 5 upgrades before the money becomes useless. But it's cool to know that he agrees with Luigi being the better brother. He's the rational one, the poor guy left in the shadows while his bro gets all the limelight. Pretty much the only reason why I fully supported the "Year of Luigi."
which is why my fav charater of all time (luigi) got a death stare in mk8, HAHA TAKE THAT MARIO U ARENT CEWL ENOUF TO THE COOL CLUB
You see the face Luigi has when you run around holding B? So priceless. I can see why you really like the game, I waited till I cleared the game before watching, just in case.
For me it was the bit when King Boo (ooh, sorry, spoilers for the very obvious plot twist) moved in that photo. My reflexive muscle spasm practically flung my 3DS across the room.
You are on a DEFENSE chapter, surviving twelve turns against an unending charge of Laguz. Also, there are 8 members of the Greil Mercenaries on the other side. Since 90% of Micaih's group sucks, Ike will go around and cleave everyone with one hit if needed.
Try to survive that on maximum difficulty on RD. It took me a month aswell. A month of death.
Funny thing is that most swearwords started as made up words to Not say their original version which was already considered a swearword at the time.
In case anyone is wondering, Yathzee has his Injustice review on the site at the moment.
Kind of surprised he didn't put this game on his Top 5 Best Games list for 2013.
I think he makes it a rule that he doesn't add games he reviews.
Oops, that's games he DID review...then, yeah, wtf? :/
This was his sixth favourite game
We need to write a petition to get a Luigi's Mansion 2 or a port of this game to the Wii U.
Luigi is my favorite character ever; and you just summed it up why ^w^ *heart*
He likes a lot of games. He just talks in a riddle-like way that the fans that have watched him for a while understand. The trick is to listen really hard to what he hints at.
The only thing wrong with the console itself is the long loading screens, but a patch has been confirmed for that. For the controller, I don't see how it's a gimmick. It's really useful for some games like MH3U, where instead of accessing a menu that blocks your entire screen to combine items, you can touch the screen once and the whole process is done.
I salute you, sir, for that oddly in character rebuttal.
It's fine for me too. The only issue I have is when I have to switch to right-handed use and get cramps, but overall it's fine.
sore thumbs... what a true observation, today I played Kirby's Epic Yarn, and at the end of today my thumbs had blisters.
With Gabe the other side of the world, Luigi and Yahtzee are now my favourite internet homosexuals.
2:49 Someone should turn this into a shirt. I'd wear it.
I would classify this game as "Kooky 'N' Spooky" personally. I admit I did feel genuine bouts of ear when spiders fell from the ceiling...
Defiance is awesome, despite the many problems. But the game was awesome with loads of fun and one of the best mess arounds I've had with my mates in along time
Dang. now i have discovered your slapped on actually better titles for the episodes that would make no one find the video ever but which are substancially artiste as well.
Same here. Makes me wish Luigi had more games to himself.
2:50 Probably my reaction if i was stuck in the Mushroom Kingdom
Man, Luigi does change a lot. He was the best jumper among the Mario Bros in all the other ones (Super Mario 64 DS for an example, still one of my favorites)
Cthulhu has awoken from his slumber!
The Horsemen ride!
The wrath of the gods is upon us!
yahtzee your as smug, as a bug, in a rug, your voice gives my ears a tug, towards joy.
Luigi's mansion games and metroid prime games are some of the few Nintendo games yahtzee actually praises, and it's well earned. Speaking of that, start reviewing the metroid prime games already, you have mentioned metroid prime several times over the course of zero punctuation. MP4 was announced this year, so now would be a good time for a metroid prime 1, 2, 3 and maybe hunters retrospect review? Hunters actually had muliplayer, with bots, and it was actually good, almost justified the shorter campaign compared to 1, 2 and 3, and it's on a cartridge not a disc so makes sense that it is a shorter game.
You can press B to jump while catching ghost
Well this is apparently "Luigi's year" so we'll probably see a few more Luigi game reviews :P
Welcome to RUclips, enjoy your stay,
i forgot i left a comment here and i saw it in my inbox and i was like "Aww hell no" only to find out someone else does what i do. lololol
and you're right, he never said that he hated this game.
At the same time, from what I've heard, the 3D on Fire Emblem Awakening is actually really good, and, he seemed to enjoy Valkyria Chronicles a bit, and it was a strategy RPG.
Omg Yahtzee, your experience with 3DS and other Nintendo controller stuff is spot on with my own. And I love my Pokemon N3DS but I can't play for as long as I like at all.
