Just a couple of tips everyone: Unless you are trying to intentionally dull your knife, never ever scrape with it using its blade, it is designed for cutting/slicing... When using the saw to scrape ferro rods (or wood to create tinder), it's best to strike as close as possible to the saw handle to prevent it from bending, also gives you better control. Anyway, Leatherman tools are great and I wouldn't be complete without my Charge TTi. Peace - Ed
I keep a Leatherman rebar in my wallet sized leather pouch with a Ferro rod, jute twine, and my keys. Always have it and love it alot. I might get the wave sometime but i love my setup and it'll stay that way for now. Thanks for the video! Edit: also new subscriber
Using the saw back is a great tip. I can't believe I never thought of that. I have often use the screwdriver but it's a short reach so there is a higher likelihood of messing up the tinder pile... Here is a tip for anyone looking to get a Leatherman but are hesitant because of the price. Check out Target at the end of the season. I got my Wave a couple of years ago for thirty bucks. They carry some outdoors equipment but no one ever goes there to buy it so they just end up putting stuff on clearance to get rid of it.
The back of the saw is amazing for the ferry rod, I've tried several things and nothing comes close to getting the same spark, note you can also use it with the saw closed. I don't think there's anything that can compete with the wave as an all around camping tool. It's pretty much perfect.

I carry a Leatherman Charge. It’s been a great tool and it’s helped me in a pinch many times when my work tools were not handy or available at the time. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the Charge TTI Titanium in the near future. Second only to the primary Blade, I also use the saw for small limb clearing and cutting in boxes in drywall when my prick coworkers borrow and lose my keyhole saw.
Hi. Great video. I always wondered how you would be able to prevent the tool from rusting out on you in a long term survival situation. I remember Les Stroud using one around salt water in the show Survivorman. Many have used it on the show Alone. I recently went to use mine which I keep in my garage. It was really rusty and most of the tools were nearly impossible to get out because of the rust. Wouldn’t that be a concern to a survivalist? If you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it. Thanks again. 😊
I carry the surge because the wave seems too small for my hand and I want more leverage. That might be the one advantage the wave has with having a fixed saw: scraping a ferro rod. But I imagine you could get the same effect with the awl on the surge
In a survival situation, I want to preserve my blades and wood saw as much as possible so I'd use the file as much as I could to shave off wood and using to scrap the ferro rod with.
David Ventura Its not that much bigger to be honest. I had mine mounted horizontally on my belt and it was barely noticable. Wave is a great tool but the Surge is better if you dont mind the size. Its more rugged and has an awl and replacable saw blades. If you are looking for a EDC tool you might want to try to get a Charge TTI it doubles as top quality pocket knife and its a bit nicer all around.
Great video and demonstration. I carried a leatherman for a long while, great tools, I did a review of the mut a while back. I stopped carrying them, I may start again. Thanks!
No awl?? Not good for bushcrafting. But it is not hard to fashion one from a longer bit, to be used with the LM bit extender/adapter. Or to grind a tip and a side edge on the fixed slot driver a little, which is redundant with a bit kit. The serrated blade is useless as an awl.
Dude I have a few multi tools and not only myself a lot of great people dose ok And they can do a lot more then just cutting and scratching wood You look only like that's the only thing that Blad of your multi tool dose I have more then cutting wood I have put all of my multi tools to a lot of tasks Like cracking nuts to eat to cutting any kind of meat to cook and move or stirring My food and using the knife for getting my hot tea bag out my my cup and I also eat with he multi tool knife and eat with and so much more. And you only show cutting and shaving wood !
Nail file? I have three Waves, from 19 years old, to new. No nail files on any of them. Mine are definitely not designed "grooming" kits. Popular with soldiers in the armoured corps, though!
I think they're overrated tbh. My knife and folding saw are better at their jobs, and I carry a swiss army knife as a last ditch cutting tool if I lose my pack. The only thing I like a multitool for is the pliers - so I carry a small pair of pliers.

Thanks for the demonstration! Now I carry the "Surge" as an EDC. Works well and it's solid.
I've been carrying a multitool for longer than I can remember and I love them. Great demonstration, thanks for sharing.
thanks for the comment!
Scraping the blade to create fine shavings is a really good way to dull it.
horrible sound too xD
So you sharpen it not really an issue
If you dont want the tinder going all over the place then you just pull the rod instead of pushing the striker

Great tip, I'll check that out.
Dude scraping that blade like that is super cringy. Dulls it fast especially the 420hc
ikr, make it stop
Very cool. I carry a leatherman style every day, I need to get myself a bigger one to put in my EDC bag thanks for the vid!
The Wave, Surge, and Super Tool are all good choices.

Agreed. Still use mine every single day.

Looks like you have invented more uses than it was intended for..Great thinking!
+Living Survival You are correct about the length of the saw helping you not mess up the tinder pile. A nice way to do it.
Wouldn't the signal be be a better leatherman for bushcraft?

What about using the file to strike the ferro rod instead of the saw back? Wouldnt it work?
Have the wave plus great bushcraft tool good carver
Yes, ***** makes great ones, I have some in my kit but don't use unless I need the magnesium.
Thank you for the great video. I still have to get a Leatherman, and hope to get a Surge even though it is kind of large.

+1 been pocket carrying my Charge for years and also use the back of the saw on my ferro rod. Don't leave home without it.
Works great!
Excellent video, thanks.
THE LEATHERMAN WAVE IS FOR ROOKIES.
THE LEATHERMAN SURGE IS THE BEST 👍👍
Great video and demonstration. I carried a leatherman for a long while, great tools, I did a review of the mut a while back. I stopped carrying them, I may start again. Thanks!
I do love my Leathermans. EDC is a Charge. Nice demo. ATB2U - Stan
Deep South Experience charge is great.
I thought I was the only one who knew about the saw back its incredible
Sid Organ :)
Wether it my Leatherman or my Swiss Army knife, I use the awl as my scraper for my ferro rod.

true that, thanks for the comment.
i got a leather men wave also and i love it carry it with me everyday
+gabriel nice.
What do you think about the leatherman surge?
Josh Fantastic tool as well. Can't go wrong.
Without an awl, its just not the best option in my opinion. I have the wave, and I use it in the woods, but I also bring an victorinox.
Good show!
Are You LEFT Handed? I am, looks Goodyear the tool
I can't agree with you more....mine never leaves my side . Cheers sir, thanks for the sub I subbed you right back.
What are you doing with that knife
nice demo!Leathermans are awesome!
thanks!
Scrape with the saw spine, not the blade edge.
Thanks for your video...I am waiting for the new SIGNAL !!!
Olivier Tovar I will have a in-depth review once they release :) Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing
Anyone else noticed the way he closed the scissors is wrong

the nail filer also works as a sriker
yes it does.

Yah !! You got it..lol cheers ;-))
Pointless click-bait title. Disappointing.
But otherwise you seem like alright.
I think they're overrated tbh. My knife and folding saw are better at their jobs, and I carry a swiss army knife as a last ditch cutting tool if I lose my pack. The only thing I like a multitool for is the pliers - so I carry a small pair of pliers.
I agree and also carry a bushcraft knife and laplander saw. Just showing the uses of a multi-tool. Thanks for watching and the comment.
You're carrying too many things lads
