Hurdy Gurdys have been around from the 10 Century, when two guys played the big version, one on keys and one on the wheel and they where played at churches. Later in the 13th century, they made the smaller ones for one person to play. So they have been around for 1000 years dude, ha.

Patty (Patricia Büchler) has some great videos on her channel describing gurdys in general, and hers specifically.

The Instrument is a Hurdy Gurdy. This one has a Carbon-Body and Wheel, the rest is built from wood.

I saw you had Patty on your list and I had to watch. I've been following her for awhile now. Celtic style music speakes to me. To my soul. I love Celtic Thunder, Celtic Women etc. Patty is actually German. I couldn't believe it. But she studied in Ireland. They recorded folk music with her while studying. Amazing. This instrument reminds me of the droning of bag pipes with celtic pipes. She did a beautiful rendition on Maggie Malone recently. Love her style, plus she's an extraordinary singer. Loved this reaction. Be safe. God Speed. 🤘

Like your comment! I’ve been following Patty for about five years now. I agree with everything you say, but you might be interested to know that the hurdy gurdy isn’t Celtic at all, but from Central Europe.
It’s amazing how it has escaped the consciousness of most Americans.

Can you please react to Eluveitie - Rebirth? That's a great (and partially heavy) Hurdy Gurdy song. 😊

@@bridgetmccracken1381 And then try some of their older songs with singer Anna Murphy like A Rose For Epona. It's a beautiful song. 😊 👍

This reminded me of an artist I wanted to suggest to you. Loreena McKennitt "Dark night of the soul" I think you'd like it. As for this young woman, that is very beautiful. Love her voice and vibe.

You now know her, Sasha and Saltatio Mortis. If you are in the mood for a silly folk/medieval song with those three and more, you should check out "Kaufmann & Maid" by Saltatio Mortis. It's them with many other artists from that genre (like Ben Metzner from Feuerschwanz and dArtagnan - I saw that somebody mentioned them in the comments) and Sasha, who usually sings pop, swing or rockabilly.
The song was meant to be a "garbage"-song to prank people for a tv show. They were supposed to believe that he wanted to change his genre and wanted their opinion on some awful songs in different styles. But it was so funny/stupid that Saltatio Mortis asked him to do it for real.

Check out something from "Guilhem Desq" for more (and different) hurdy-gurdy songs! He has for starters a 'Cowboys From Hell' cover that's fantastabulous. And some less metal, but super cool original music too! \m/
    BTW that instrument has other, less weird names (wheeled viola, which describes how it works better) I guess this was a familiar/slang-ish word in English that stuck and eventually replaced the others entirely! ^^;

If you like a hurdy-gurdy, wait until you see/hear a nyckelharpa!

Yes, Patty Gurdy is great! Die also callaborates with a lot of artist Like Green Fiddler Ayreon, Alestorm etcetera. The hurdy gurdy is often used in folkbands, but also in folkmetalbands Like Eluveiti. Please react to The song Rebirth of them, it's hot everything you Like! Holy cow HxC!!! I came across this reaction of yours by accident. Let me explain...
Three years ago I found Patty Gurdy. Her instrument was fascinating and I wanted to learn all that I could about the “Hurdy Gurdy”. And then one day while exploring Patty’s rabbit hole of beautiful and unique music, another “new” artist popped up in the RUclips suggestions... Angelina Jordan! You might recognize me from posting comments on AJ’s beautiful voice. It was while exploring Patty Gurdy that I was led to Angelina.
Well, from time to time, I check back to see what Patty is up to and it totally blew my mind that YOU have reacted to her! Isn’t the hurdy gurdy an incredible instrument? As Americans, most of us have no idea of what a hurdy gurdy is. It’s pretty medieval (from Central Europe) and Patty is German, despite her impeccable English.
    So check THIS out...
Either react to, or play for yourself Patty Gurdy’s “Gurdy’s Green” (I’ll leave a link in the comments). It’s a beautiful, brief (only two minutes) instrumental piece composed by Patty Gurdy, and I’d love to know what you think of it.
This sweet little song REALLY shows off the hurdy gurdy... all of the layered tracks are solely from Patty’s hurdy gurdy!
    Enjoy it! 😊👍❤️
