Yes the Bronco needs a V8 option. That way for those who do not want one, they can have the V6. For those who need a V8, we get that power and growl. Either way this particular vehicle is a win for FORD!
If Ford offered a V8 the bronco would be nearly perfect. The lack of V8 option really sucked because I don’t want to replace turbos one day. That and while powerful….the eco boost sounds like a vacuum cleaner And if they can offer it for less than the 392 rubicon that would kill jeep.
I would also rather have the V8 but mostly for ease of self-service and nostalgia! However, that 2.7 engine is very well built and was designed specifically for turbo applications from day 1! The fact that it is a carbon graphite iron block (used on many NASCAR applications, high speed train rotors, exhaust manifolds etc…) makes this one of the most durable engine blocks on the market and capable of handling absurd amounts of power and is much, much more durable than the aluminum 5.0 Coyote or 3.5 EB engines! Modern turbos rarely fail and many outlast the engine that they are bolted to! I have seen old 1980’s era Volvos with over 300k miles on them and running original factory turbos! However, if it should fail, they are typically rebuilt for about $300 each from a reputable turbo repair shop or buy them new for as low as $600 (they are mass produced nowadays and thus far more attainable)! Just my 2 cents…
@@Bacnow love this comment and explanation. I have a 90 EB Bronco and love the sound and feel of it. But (not being well versed in it all) have wondered why a v8 is so desirable besides guys saying, " I wanna hear it LOUD while yelling 'Yee yee!!" Being able to work on your own vehicle is always a plus and I love to hear how durable these engines are. 👍🏾
Thanks Ben, Yes it needs a V8! I live in the Gulf in the middle east the new Raptor easily gets stuck in soft sand due to the V6 turbo lag specially while launching, That said most of other Trucks & SUV’s with naturally aspirated engines have no issues.
I think the bronco raptor should come standard with 35 inch tires and then you should be able get like a Sasquatch bronco raptor with like 37s or something crazy.
It doesn't need a V8. The limitation with the towing has to do with the off-road suspension. A V8 option may only make sense if it can tow more with a higher payload.
Honestly. People talk about V8 as if they were magical. They’re not. Other than sounding great……. That’s it. If I was Ford, the biggest motor I would put in that Bronco is the 3.5 ecoboost. More power than a V8 and way better on gas.
@@BenHardyCars it’ll be a daily driver, might hit the sand dunes a few times but that’s the extent of it. You must choose? I’m being selfish, I have both on order and am debating on which one to keep. I drove both the Jeep wasn’t as bad as I remember and the bronco was nice but the lag was atrocious inside felt cheap ass hell too.
The 392 has much better power delivery, but the solid front axle does get in the way with soaking things up. The bronco doesn’t have the immediate power, but the IFS is great. So if you are okay with the harshness of the solid front axle, then wrangler.
Wrangler 392 has the power and the sound. I not a fan of the 3.73 gears it comes with thou. Other than the engine, I prefer everything else they the bronco has to offer.
No it doesn’t need a V8….are people aware that until Ram unnecessarily dropped a hellcat engine in a “half ton” (the TRX weighing 6500 lbs puts its curb weight more into the 2500 or 3/4 class) the most powerful engine ever put in a factory 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup by far is the Gen2 Raptor w/ the HO 3.5 making 450hp/510tq, add another 30hp/TQ if you’re running 93 octane. So explain why the Bronco needs a V8 when the damn RAPTOR doesn’t lol?!?
$64K for a V6 that can’t tow for sh$t nor has any Payload.. 🤷🏻♂️ The Power Wagon is $65K - $75K and it’s a V8 and much much bigger and just as Capable Off Road if not more…🤦🏻♂️
A full size truck won't even fit on most hardcore technical trails. Hell, Wranglers barely fit sometimes. Breakover and departure angles on it are also horrible. They are fine for tooling around on moderate trails, but that's it.

If Ford makes a Bronco V8 let's hope it has a reasonable MSRP so they can convince Jeep to do the same
That's funny

Not about power, eco boost makes plenty, it’s if you don’t like the sound of vacuum cleaner engine that the eco boost makes 🤦♂️
B1 battle droid headrests. Sick
My scheduled build date is a little under a month from now, hoping to receive it before 2022 but who knows.

What is the quality of the hardtop in your opinion?
Good things come to those who wait
In the beginning you said it felt the Bronco and Jeep felt closer in suspension but by the end you was say the Bronco felt so much better?
Which one would you choose 392 wrangler or the First edition bronco?
I need to take the 392 offroad to fully decide

Hey Ben, nice review. Just curious, did you like this or the Defender more? IE is the Defender worth the extra $$? Good job as always! 👍
Bronco seems better all around with the off-road tech, but the defender is more comfortable on-road
