The hidden cost is they own home but have to pay rent for space at $1500.00 a month which can increase in price without notice. Also, they didn't quote the actual cost of house insurance which is probably expensive. Also, they mentioned other people being careless with their sewage. This mean unwanted odors on the river. The homes are a little too close for my taste. The plus side is that the home is beautiful inside. As the old saying goes, "Whatever floats your boat."
I've thought for a while now that floating homes are an excellent idea. Especially considering how often areas are flooding these days, how widespread it has become and the experts saying it's not only here to stay but also only going to get worse not better as time goes on. Having a house that can adapt to the conditions better and stay above the flood level would be ideal. Floating homes and/or homes built on "stilts" I think is going to be the future for a _lot_ of places - I mean, we have to figure out _some_ way to live in the changing environment, we can't just abandon entire areas because they've started flooding far more often.
@@moonfall8972 Well, I didn't mean it's the ideal answer for _every_ situation or location. I was more referring to my own country here in the UK where flatter ground tends to flood a lot but there's far less risk of extreme storms (though these _are_ also becoming a lot more common in our country too). Pollution could be an issue for sure, but there's already ways to prevent that. I think the biggest thing right now is expense, but again that _should_ come down if floating homes become more common. Although I do like the idea of having houses on stilts as is done in other parts of the world, but again it's not a solution for every situation or location, and does pose a problem for accessibility. I'm just trying to think outside the box when it comes to how to deal with flooding, since fixing our aging sewage systems alone isn't the answer. (We really should have gone with the two-pipe system where rainwater isn't dumped into the sewage network, back in the Victoria era. We nearly had such a system but one rich asshole convinced everyone to go with the single-pipe option which we're now paying dearly for).
Fabulous totally zen space not much stuff. Very well done stairs with access to a huge bedroom so well organized. It seems little compare to neighbours but it is so neat!!!! No doubt I will check for yoghurt food. Two beautiful people so are you. Thanks for this video❤
Beautifully designed. Love the mellow upstairs, especially the drawers that are built ‘in’ the walls. Amazing! Love the uncluttered image of the whole float. So cool that you are able to have your tree & outdoor plants. Very special & unique. Well done. Thank you for sharing.
This is a perfect home (not just a float home but for any home). I love the two levels. After living in two level, side-split (3 levels) and a ranch I definitely prefer a two story as it gives you privacy and change of scenery. As your on a connected septic/fresh water system I wonder if you could install a heating cable to the sewer and water lines that you could turn on only in the winter? The kitchen really is the focus of any gathering of family or friends so it is great to see that it is big, bright, and open. The positioning of the windows is brilliant if you like your privacy, which I do. Thank you for sharing a smartly designed and functional living space. ps: love your dog
Thank you for sharing your fabulous float home. Your home gives an aura of peace. Also, I am happy for your product Yoggu!. I have been searching for a non-dairy yogurt. I have subscribed to your website and I am planning my purchases. Thank you.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video there's several floating home communities in Mississauga and Toronto Ontario unless there's, more
Really lovely home and incredible result for the price. Obviously they saved a lot on labor costs because of the work they or their friends/family did. If I understood her correctly, she mentioned that the material that they used to build their home, styrofoam, has a lifespan of about 30 years? If that is correct, then what do you do? That was unclear for me. But again, the home was really wonderful, and it's hard to beat the location.
Question... if the river floods how does it effect your home? Do you just rise and fall with the water even though you are attached to a dock. Wondering how that works.
Is the $1500 rent fee per month? If so, what kind of alternative is this? How about a video about first-home buyers who are average wage earners and who don't have a rich relative or a brother who can build stuff for them? Is there any hope for them?
Yes, the moorage fee is per month. This about lifestyle, not about affordability. There’s nothing affordable about floating homes in the BC lower mainland
Of course it looks great... in warm months amount of insect activity?? Warm months spiders/webs are usually numerous dockside. Rather live on land but they enjoy this.
The Beautiful Home They Built is WONDERFUL ! However, the Costs Are Very, Very High, Not to Mention the "Careless Sewage" Folks ! I Would Never Live In This Place, Especially With "Out of Blue" Rent Increases and NO ADVANCE NOTIFICATION ! I think the couple HAS TO "EXPLORING ALTERNATIVES" Like YESTERDAY !
Holy smokes! $1500 just for moorage! This is no sensible investment or housing alternative, just a lifestyle choice. They will have very little equity on this thing when they decide to sell, and only equally well-to-do people seeking the same lifestyle will want to buy it. Mortgages on float homes are difficult and expensive, and you have moorage fees on top of it.
They have a lot of money. That yoguu stuff is all over in Canada, like 600+ stores... They purport a meager lifestyle, but in actuality they are multi-millionaires (nothing wrong with that).
Thanks for checking out the video :) For the yogurt mention, it's not a commercial. We just thought it was interesting and that it would be cool to show what they do for work :)
Speaking as a renter (much like probably 80% of the world, which could be an exaggeration) it always comes back to the landlord being scummy with next to no notice 🥲

I looked them up on FaceBook, most of the veg*n and those sort of pages are on FB groups. I do not find a product location in the US.

I dont think anyone claimed this was about saving money.
@@dustinrogers5384 I know. Just giving my opinion.
Pretty negative
@@karreevaughan4674 Not meant to be negative. Just my opinion as I see it. It doesn't mean that I'm right.
I wonder if it can be moored at a legal spot out of the way someplace for free and just use a tender boat back and forth to shore.
Wow we love the design of this home. The openess. Thank you Matt and Danielle for always sharing different lifestyles. 👍👍❤
Hello how are you doing today
Wow, it's definitely like heaven, a beautiful residence on the water, that's my dream😊😊😊
I really like how light it is and how much wood was used.
Beautiful home!! Love your ethos, and as a vegan, I love your company! ❤😊
Thank you so much! Happy you enjoyed the float home tour :)
Took all of three seconds to say “aS a VeGaN…”
I think it took 5 seconds actually. @@charlesthoreson4162

Disagree. Hurricanes & tropical storms & pollution and expense of getting a little space will preempt that.

@@moonfall8972It hasn’t in Amsterdam & they’ve been living on water for decades. They’ve been keeping the North Sea out for 120 years too.

Your floating house done is really beautiful
It is quite lovely. Thank you for sharing.

Concrete shower stall is too heavy, but our Cast Iron bathtub that we then fill to the brim with water is light as a feather! XD
Why does every sentence end on an up tone , I can't get past it😅
It's beautiful
Beautiful home
Would it be possible for you guys to have a larger barge to at least give you some kind of yard around the home?
You did a beautiful job on the build🎉.
Happy Thanksgiving 🧡🦃.

Beautiful home and their yogurt is amazing!
I love the place! Especially the shower. What is the concrete overlay you mentioned? How can I find this product?
Awesome home! I love it!!!
I want a float home. But, it'll travel by air. Airship, style. And haul all my vehicles. I like what they've done.
The nature is beautiful! Where was this filmed?

If it wasn’t for the high rent it would become highly desirable for me.
