- There is a brand new Romantic Comedy on Netflix called A Family Affair, starring some big names, and this is my Movie Review for it. A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman (Joey King), her mother (Nicole Kidman) and her movie star boss (Zac Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity. Directed by Richard Lagravenese and written by Carrie Solomon, A Family Affair debuts June 28, only on Netflix.

The plot is absurd. A 24 year old throwing a tantrum over her mother's dating life.

Woah woah hold your tongue! As much as you want to laugh, A24 is a pretty excellent production company at the moment!
@lukeyaple5949 When you have talented people like this in an average movie, you know it's the Netflix big bucks and not the script that drew them to the project.

It’s definitely a background movie.
Between Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman there was a lot of plastic surgery, botox, and filler on screen.
I saw another comment that said the botox and cosmetic work that Nicole and Zack have had was a little distracting from the movie. I agree. Zack is becoming almost unrecognizable and Nicole needs to back off a little as well. The story just fell flat, to me. When I see Nicole and Kathy Bates, in a movie, I have high expectations and this one did not hit the mark. I could not even finish it.
Nicole Kidman is literally held together w surgeon tape and magic glue at this point, I’ve been uncomfortable watching even a few scenes of her in anything the last few years
Yes, and now Zac also has that surgery face too. I feel most of my cringe came from that aspect alone

Me too. I know she's a great actress, but since the facial changes I can't look at anything she's in. I wonder if she had to get that much work done? I think I like Madonna's de-puffed face better.

The cast is high end, but the story is so boring. It started strong, funny. But then it gets boring, every scene is the same, nothing happens. A 24 old woman who acts like that because her mother fell in love is unrealistic, sounds more like a 15 year old.
And then there is Liza Koshy (who i think is funny) who adds nothing to the story and has the same character again like in other movies.
Its very cheesy and feels like they mock other romance movies which are actually very good.
Oh and may i add: releasing a movie in june with such a long and heavy christmas theme… just great 😂

I absolutely felt the same way during the movie, chemistry wise. I felt like there wasn’t much emotional connection, and to be honest, I was fully expecting the movie to take the opposite route of a happily ever after. I almost wish it took a more realistic ending where they didn’t end up together. The way the whole relationship is built is kind of ridiculous… and they even acknowledge it. I thought the movie was absolutely hilarious, but towards the end I was kind of rolling my eyes. The situation itself is nonsensical, but I wish they took an actual realistic emotional connection. Definitely a 6/10 for me though. (sorry for the ranting)
Love Joey King,she needs to be in a movie with Alexis Bedel from Gilmore Girls,they look like sisters.

I attempted to watch it twice but I fall asleep on both occasions. Couldn't agree more at a lack of chemistry for Zach and Nichole. In the 1st 15 minutes where I was awake, I just can't shake off the botoxn on both of their faces lol. Plus Nichole too tall, zack too short. Disaster match up. 😅
It’s an hallmark movie with A list casts. That’s all there is. The plot, dialogue and direction are dated and lazy. They do tried to convince the audience that Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron have deeper connections beyond the physical attraction. A few years ago, this will be a movie about Zac Efron and Zoe King went from hating each other to lovers…so at least this is a new take on relationships.
It was enjoyable to watch. But i did find Zac very out of place. Probably needed a different male lead
I love Nicole Kidman but I could not even finish the movie.

I thought this movie was awful. Zack Efron's character was too unlikeable. It doesn't make sense that Joey King would keep working for him when he treats her like shit. And like you said no chemistry between Nicole Kidman and Zack.

Sometimes, actors of a certain age and gender just want to have a fun(ny) character to play...Then, the narrative "mistake caught" would be it's too preachy and not actually funny enough🙄and so dull for a romantic/comedy, it's a fairytale vibe😊🤨
I kept falling asleep on the this the film. It felt awkward
The daughter is such an fn brat it’s hard to watch. She’s insufferable the whole movie n I think she’s supposed to be a some what likable character

Did nobody notice how awful Nicole Kidman looked with her face completely blown out by light at the beginning of the film? Whoever colour graded this needs to go back to school
The dialogues quite good. However, there’s no chemistry between Zack and Nicole.
Still, enjoyable as a background watch, unlike Axel F which I had to turn off after 2 minutes.

Horrible. It didn't sell Zach as a love interest. Muscles aren't enough. Not believable! Nothing wrong with a fling after 11yrs BUT 0️⃣entertainment value. Glad I wasn't the only one. The dogs on NYE were the best of all. I'd like to unsee this movie, tbh

OMGOSH i just said this as I'm watching the movie.. there's no chemistry between Zac and Nicole. So hard to watch 😂 .. the whole movie feels forced almost. Just bad.
Weak script. Good actors. Did not see or feel any connection between NK and ZE.

CHEESY MOVIE…story line yuk!!! Its like a SANDLER MOVIE but with ZACH….I COULD NOT CONTINUE WATCHING….i feel Nichole slipped n accepted this gig cus maybe there was nothing else good or being offered n just needed a gig. But, for a seasoned actress this was not a good choice. And, thatS my take. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️

I think the movie is certainly not as good as the cast. A little boring and parts of it more unrealistic then I would expect. I would have rather of seen another kissing booth…

Joey King’s character was annoying. It was so unrealistic.

It doesn't look very good, tbh but it looks a whole lot better than Damsel, which was god-awful.😅
