The ending for me, too, especially because this is the episode that comes after "Shut Up and Dance", which was one of the darkest endings in the series, for me. "Exit Music (For a Film)" was the song that was playing on my cd player when my friend called me to tell me to turn on the news. When I did, it was live coverage of the Columbine shooting rampage, so that song will always hold a dark significance in my mind. Because of that, it was the perfect song to end "Shut Up and Dance." TMI. Sorry for the life story. Lol.
I agree with ending it had me for moment she wouldn't go through passing over because of her husband but after she went through man I cried in tears I was so happy
The closing credits montage has what I actually consider to be the most powerful moment: Yorkie on the dance floor, dancing freely with the woman she loves. Because she’d never done that before, ever. The end of her physical life was actually the beginning of her life.
absolutely. what i remember best about this episode was what happened AFTER the credits began to roll. and that is so, so fitting, because that's the whole point of the episode. the ending isn't the end, but the beginning of something new, or real, or... god, i don't even know how to verbalize it. it's just beautiful and poignant and i want so much for san junipero -- or maybe just heaven -- to exist.
This is my favorite black mirror episode! I feel so nostalgic watching this too! I watched almost all your older black mirror videos and I'm glad people still remembers this show. Hopefully black mirror will make a comeback soon.
This episode had me feeling nostalgic for something I never even experienced in the first place. It had good twists and Mackenzie Davis stole my heart with her awkward shyness. Great casting.
@@cheriebomb158 I'm 27 writing this and I really wish I didn't spend so much time behind a screen playing stupid games or watching mindnumbing content. When I was younger, I was really into sports but at some point, I abandoned all of it. If I could relive those years again until today, I would spend all my time and energy focusing on getting better at those physical activities rather than just consuming. Your body will deteriorate as you age, which is why I really wish I could have that young energy again that I used to have. That said, I will try my best to get back into it but realistically speaking, I will never be as good as I could have been if I never stopped. So my advice to you is simply: Do what you really love doing, become really good at it rather than wasting your time on stuff like social media that doesn't actually mean anything, it's really just wasted time. It doesn't even have to be something physical, maybe you have great interest in science, music or art?Whatever it may be, live in the real world. I wish you all the best.
@@happysquirtle466 At 27 you can't say your body deteriorated, come on. You can do most the things you want till late 40s with if you keep your health and fitness well, and a proper diet. As for the time-wasting, whatever, you can waste time even by reading a book that don't bring you any value. You know, if you did not waste that time with games at 20, then you would probably do in your 30, simply because we get bored by over-working and hook for a pause and relaxation more often.
The "49 years" part. "The laughter, the boredom, the love... The fcking *love!* *Edit to Add:* Relationships are obviously work, but when you are in an actual marriage.,. That promise and commitment just hits different. I'm a married man and that resonated with me hardbody.
What’s (cruelly) ironic is that the ending of Black Mirror that seems the most happy/positive complete with bright colors and upbeat music is actually one of if not the most horrible in the entire series because human consciousness was not created to last for eternity. As a result, Kelley and Yorkie, while they may enjoy the first couple of hundred or even thousands of years together, will ultimately grow to hate their eternal existence either out of ennui, insanity, or both as there is only so much one can do on Earth, or even in a digital copy of Earth, which is why we see earlier in the episode that people ultimately resort to sadomasochistic actions just to try and feel something. Their “heaven” ultimately becoming a “hell” on Earth.
@@venusianblivet9518 The fact that one can remove themselves still doesn’t counter most of what I said though. If anything it merely provides an end to the suffering, ennui, and/or insanity that will eventually consume the consciousnesses who choose to stay long enough to reach that point, probably out of fear of true death. The point is that San Junipero is merely an imperfect copy of paradise born from humankind’s hubris and desire to reach a transcendent state by their own work.
@@cinephileosophy4877 Hmm...dying as an old sick person ending up as a rotting corpse, or spending years and years with the person you love? Quite the dilemma.
@@kristinrose5365 more like dying or slowly going insane/feeling only a sense of ennui to the point you want to permanently end your existence. Quite the dilemma.
Is this movie on DVD. Is it available to buy. They should make it available on DVD. It would sell like Hot Cakes. I ‘m gonna check and see if it’s available on DVD.
I felt mixed feelings. That too good to be true state. Even older Kelly stated: uploaded into the cloud ☁️ sounds like "heaven" emplying it's a knock off afterlife and we don't know if you actually carry over your true self which leads me to think a severe fantasy is sold as mankind cannot duplicate heaven as the spirit does NOT live in the mind. At best these are just merely consciousness of them, kind of like Supermans dad in his spaceship.
Now that is your own (intelligent and very creative) mind working overtime on the episode. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I don't think it's in the actual spirit of how San Junipero was presented. They definitely could have made it a sort of disturbing consideration, but they _didn't._ I think your version is fine, but it's far-fetched in this case.
_Totally_ agree. In fact, I'm not sure why, but I think it would have been less powerful otherwise. And I'm a straight, gun-totin', American lovin' Trump supporter with a wife and two kids, lol.
honestly, i love how there's so many layers to Yorkie as a character, her being raised a Conservative whilst @ the same time wanting more from life, and from the woman she loves, her urgency of the now is something that i can also relate to as a person, especially when she wants something she goes and gets it, it's genuinely moving
Nah, I think that would be boring. I like how the episode end the way it did. The whole point that Kelly didn’t really believe in the afterlife, so it sort pointless that Kelly would join or reunited with her husband and daughter. In death after it is something that she doesn’t believe and this isn’t, anything what Kelly’s husband wants it what Kelly wants. So in the end, she choose to be with Yorkie. Not husband and daughter, it sad but maybe her spirit publicly with her family. But soul and heart is with Yorkie.
i didnt like the ending of the episode at all, Kellys powerfull moment all the big talk about her husnband richard that she will go out the same way as his husband and daughter just got kicked in the balls when she decided to upload herself she didnt stand up to her principles soo all those big words and powerfull moment got flushed down the toilete the moment she transfered to "eternity" i wouldnt call it a happy ending, probably the deepest sick of doom and gloom episode in all 6 seasons i have seen, it was designed by humans they are like living data npc's now in a "game" wich can be coded in many ways and outer sources can do with them whatever they want i think its the darkest episode of them all
The thing is, I don’t think they _were_ her principles. They were her husband’s, and when Yorkie tells Kelly that her husband had been selfish and abandoned her, she was blunt, but actually she was right, and Kelly knew it. Kelly had been basically drowning her own feelings of abandonment with fun in S.J., and was going to let herself die when she died to end the sadness. Realizing Yorkie truly wanted to be with her gave her a reason to “live”.
Or maybe that spent her life with husband and daughter long a enough, that wasn’t completely happy the choice she made. And probably want to know, what her life would be like with Yorkie.
I feels like that isn’t what Kelly want, plus she never stats that she wanted. To be with husband and daughter, I feels like it was pressure on her whether. She should be with husband and daughter, but I feels like that not what she wants.
I absolutely hate that ending. Makes all her previous powerful explanation completely obsolete. It's probably great for people who never experienced one true love but just jump from partner to partner, but anybody who actually understood Kelly's reasoning for NOT chosing the eternal simulation will feel utterly disappointed by that "twist" at the end when she basically said, "Hey, you know what, fuck all that, let's party, woooo!" There is an argument that this is not an uplifting happy ending, but a depressing and bleak one.
They could have done a better ending. Have Kelly refuse to pass over and she dies and goes to heaven, reuniting with her husband and daughter. An asteroid hits the earth destroying the servers and all those people stand outside heaven's gate, never being allowed in because they didn't believe in god's promise. That would have been dark af
Nah, I think that would be boring. I mean, I like how the episode end the way it did. The whole point that Kelly does not believe in the afterlife, so it is pointless for Kelly to reunited with her husband, after death for something that she doesn’t believe in. This isn’t anything do what Kelly’s husband wants or she should be with her husband and daughter, because that should be the right thing to do. No, it is what Kelly wants. Yorkie might have begged Kelly to stay with her instead, but I think Yorkie really wasn’t thinking about that it might be too much for Kelly. Just wanted Kelly to with her forever, I mean if Yorkie understood it and rethink. About what she is saying Kelly to do, I think Yorkie would probably understand her. But I think what Kelly saying to Yorkie about being together for 40+ years with her husband, seem came out of nowhere when Yorkie asked Kelly to stay with her when she’s ready to pass over. So, in the end she chooses to be with Yorkie.
