You got me crying at the end. My childhood Best Friend died December of 2002. She was a huge reader and loved Harry Potter. A week before her death we went to the movies to see Chamber of secrets and she talked me into reading the first two books. After her death I made it my mission to catch up in the series to read the order of Phoenix for her.

    Some book/movie recs:
    - This Time It’s Real by Ann Liang (YA contemporary romance - very cute, very easy/quick to read, lightish on the romance so Kristin might not get bored)
    - Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu (YA spy romance - fun premise, easy to read, enough action so Kristin won’t get bored/enough romance so Erica won’t get bored)
    - XOXO by Axie Oh (YA contemporary romance - fun premise, easy to read, cute story overall)
    - The Idea of You by Robinne Lee (Adult romance - fun premise, lots of sex, a movie’s coming out with Anne Hathaway soon)
    - Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (YA fantasy - easy to read, quite a bit of action, book was huge when it came out and the final book in the trilogy comes out this year)
    - Stuck In Love (2012 film with Lily Collins, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, etc - protagonist is a successful author and (if I’m remembering it correctly) most people in the protag’s family are writers)

I recommend Sabriel by Garth Nix for a fantasy read and Reckless by Elsie Silver for a romance read (though this one does mention couples in previous books)
And yes! Please watch Dune! I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions :)

If you read the book you would know that the 1st hunger games lasted only minutes and took place in the exact same arena Lucy Gray faught in (just without the rubble) so wanting to see a movie about the 1st hunger games would have been pointless. 😶 There were no Mutts,tv host, or drones either.

I think it’s more reading about what lead to the first hunger games/the conception of it that would be neat. The story about how it started was interesting and the tension between the two creators. Also the first reaping… not sure if it was covered in the book but curious what that was like.
