Ok here’s a book that involves “time travel” that I recently listened to and loved. Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. It’s a thriller and I listened to it in 3 days lol. I was hooked!

You guys should definitely read book 3 of The Bridge Kingdom! It changes pov every 2 books and it slaps. I listen to you guys while I clean and am at the gym and it literally makes my day.

Oh I also really did not like the audio… its was just not it. I think i put it on 1.75 or 2x speed and it was… okay but definitely not amazing, which was disappointing but I still liked the book itself.

Favorite romance movie has to be About Time with Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson

I can only handle the age gap when it's in a fantasy book. Other than that, I tend to avoid them. It's not a great trope, in my opinion.

I hate when authors make their MC casual readers- it feels like a cheap ploy to ingratiate the MC to the reader.

I had 0 interest in the movie, but I love hearing you guys talk about the drama. It is so weird to use a press tour about a DV movie to promote your personal side projects. I don’t think I have ever seen anything with Blake Lively, so to me, it feels like she is trying to ride on Ryan Reynolds’ coat tails and try to replicate his success while doing it poorly. It’s weird since I generally get the vibe that Ryan is a good dude, so she can’t be terrible, but she puts off such a wanna be demanding everyone bow to her that I am fully out on her.

I read the book back when I was in high school before it exploded in popularity. I was so shocked when I realized it wasn't a romance book. I didn't think it was too bad of a book, but the DV really surprised me. I saw the movie a few days after it was released (I had a free ticket to any movie viewing of my choice from my theater), I was fully expecting a mid-tier movie, like 5/10. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how well it was produced, I ended up crying in the theater (and I don't cry easily), so without all this drama crap, I'd give it a solid 7/10 even despite the glaring issues. But I feel like the Blake/Justin drama has really soured the movie overall. If only people who did this for a living actually did their homework and put in the effort to give it even halfway decent PR and marketing, and given Blake PR training for DV, this movie could have stood pretty well on it's own.

It actually makes sense that there would be as much controversy around the marketing of the movie, considering that the book was controversial. It’s like, take the romanticizing DV of the book and then apply it the real-life roll out of the movie. You have Lively’s beer brand marketing the tagline “it ends with buzz”. I honestly thought perhaps they wanted the DV to be a plot twist (bad idea) and therefore only alluded to it. And the biggest oversight… no DV hotline at the end of the movie.

Sarah J maas and collen hoover are both independently horrible individuals in actions completely.

Taking tropes and filling the plot around the tropes was basically Powerless for me 😅 I swear, she did a grab bag of tropes she wanted to see then wrote out from there.

My favorite niche trope is when the main character dies. Like, they make the ultimate heroic sacrifice. Idk I just love it.

Murderbot diaries would be a fun one to read. Each book is so short- read the first one and go from there. I think you would enjoy it. Also, the audiobook narrator is great.

I'm so glad you guys touched on all the things I disliked about this book. Didn't even notice the time jump plot hole but that definitely doesn't improve my rating of the book. 'Not caring for his writing style' is so on point. Michaelides has a MA in screenwriting so that's probably why he writes in that 'telling instead of showing' way- which might have been bearable if this book had some semblance of plot going for it.

I didn't get the Red Rising hype either. And I continued on and read Golden Son and Morning Star. I just felt like Darrow is too much of a Gary Stu, but maybe that's just me. I do want to know if you read the second book and see if that changes your opinions. It does ditch the Hunger Games stuff at least

Kristin, I know the expanse series is really popular and it has a tv show so you might know it but if you don't I kind of think you will love it If you check it out, don't panic about the amount of book😂 There is an ongoing mystery but you can stop at the end of book 1

I cannot really put into words why I would recommend Red Rising to somebody who likes Iron Prince and vice versa but just the vibes those books give me are in my head so similar. Maybe it‘s just because I love both series so much. However, I am apparently an outlier as well because I loved the first book immensely and thought that it improved on the aspects that are similar to the Hunger Games. I struggled with another recommendation as well recently, because people recommended The Will of the Many to fans of Red Rising and I seem to be one of the few people that did not like that book at all.

I have to confess that I oftentimes have different standards for TV/films and books. Even though I enjoy analyzing movies and talk about their structure and editing, I can enjoy „bad“ movies but I cannot enjoy books that are „bad“ in my opinion, however, that doesn’t mean that I criticize other people for enjoying books I don’t like because people reading more is good for everyone who loves books. „Bad“ books is also so subjective to readers because some people call Iron Prince and Fire and Song badly structured or badly edited books and I personally love them.

I feel like because all 3 of you were reading the book, Erica was wrong to tell you both any information past being surprised when you guys were like STOP lol but I have a book friend that just wants to blabber about books I’m not currently reading and sometimes hearing her version of the story makes me wanna read a book more.

Sometimes fan art makes me want to read something I wasn’t originally interested in. But I’m with Erica, I love spoilers because without context it means nothing to me!

One time I asked my boyfriend how was the book so far (our mini book club). He said, “he just had sex with the sister.” So when I read the book I was expecting him to cheat and some point he never did. He had sec with his girlfriend who is the sister of a character. I was anticipating a whole different storyline :/ I don’t do any spoilers before a book, I don’t even do opinions besides “good”

That's the opposit of a spoiler witch reduces the surprise element And it ends on a cliffhanger...well, it's the first book in a trilogy of course it's some kind of a cliffhanger The spy part was a spoiler but the rest, no The whole internet knew iron flame ends on a very bad cliff hanger...so?! We all read it, we were all surprised or heartbroken The whole world knew season 8 of GOT was bad, we all still watched it It's just books why should it be so serious
