Got an unscheduled/special episode of Unclicked for you. Corey Walsh recently made it public that he's gay. While he may not be the first openly gay rider in the history of BMX, he is the first major pro to come out at what is considered to be the peak of his game. I truly believe that Corey's story, message, and outlook are important for everyone to hear. Be nice to people, because as Corey makes clear, you never know what they're going through...
WHAT IS OUR BMX?!
In short, we are the Ride BMX staff out on our own. We're building from the ground up and our goal is pretty simple. We want to continue what we love. We want to create great content, feature awesome riders, and contribute, push, and show why we love BMX. We sincerely appreciate any and all support... -Ryan Fudger, Jeff Zielinski, Adam Watkins, and Justin Benthien.

I met this guy only once in Milton Ontario decades ago. I have Crohn's disease and most people didn't really like having me there to say the least. Corey was an awesome person to me. He even told the other kids to just be cool with me. It's hard doing things like healthy people when you are disabled but Corey already figured out I had challenges and he made me feel okay about being there. Cool guy and cool sister and cool family period.
The dude shreds. End of story.
Can't wait for the time to come when coming out doesn't need to be a thing anymore and people are all allowed to be who they are from the get go.

As with anything that weighs on your mind, addictions,sexual orientation or what have you. Tragically we make it thing on ourselves.
Agreed however there are extremes and wrong doing in both side. Do I have to agree with someone’s life choices or identity? No. Does that mean they shouldn’t be able to do their thing? Also no. Of course not. Go do your thing and you should be able too. But small children being taught about sexual identities and and all this stuff way earlier than ever before and drag queens reading profane books to children (not some hypothetical. Go read the books. They’re awful) is too much. Like yea everyone should have the right to live their life. But A let’s go back to no one knows what anyone is and 2 dudes or 2 chicks or 1&1 like ok? And. That’s irrelevant to us. I don’t even agree with it but it doesn’t affect or bother me. No different than religion. We don’t have to agree on which one is real or this or that. Like ok. Move on. I get that there are struggles for people coming out. And there shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be bullied and shamed. But the answer to that isn’t joining the rainbow army and be unhinged and crazy toward people who don’t agree with you but also are stoping you. I hope that makes sense. It shouldn’t be bullied or shamed. But we can agree to disagree or just not really have the same ideas but also co exist. Just leave kids alone. Let adults live their life. Let kids be kids and stop drilling stuff into them way before they’re even naturally getting into those feelings and emotions and shit. It’s not rocket science. People are just too, idk. Reactive and emotional to see balanced truth sometimes
Respect ✊ It took the biggest pair of balls to come out to the whole world being one of the most famous athletes in your sport. So happy for Corey. Fuck anyone who has any negative comment about someone living a happier life.
When all the Corey love posts first went up I legit thought he had died a tragic death. But his courage is pretty awesome. Enjoy life, you got some really great friends.

Thank you Corey for sharing your story with the whole bmx community. I came out to my family and friends a few weeks back. Felt weird about it cause I'm bisexual and thought its no big deal to anyone, should just keep it to myself, but you know what? Its a big ass deal to me and anyone else hiding from themselves or others. It felt great to get it off my chest after years of knowing and hiding I guess. Thank you to Corey and anyone else who shows the world their true selves, much love!

My family knows about my life but my crew doesn’t and I can relate to the self doubt and understandings from the guys I ride with. But I hold it as, folks that are in my life at home or people that I talk to other then bike all know. The few that I did ride with in the past that I explained why my roommate and I world travel and move all over the country together(over ten years) explain to me they felt it and kinda knew it via my home life. But the big thing is, they always explain to me that this is the reason I am blunt with my emotions to others. I have just tried to cover this up with my crew and past crew so long that when riding I am just a different person. When riding I am my fake self, but my partner does not ride so I never had to change. Long story short, even though I handle my being open differently(always feared making others uncomfortable) I can relate to this. I am me at the end of the day and if asked I never lie. Or I just talk about my partner in a very kind way and talk about the stories of travel or places we lived(then it’s up to them to come up with their mind set)

One of the things I ABSOLUTELY love about BMX, is the diversity of all the riders. There is a Nigel Sylvester, and a Ryan Nyquist. Hoffman and LeVan. And so many other riders that, all though not completely opposite, have VERY different styles and personalities. They all kill it on a bike, but that might be the ONLY thing in common with a few. I guess what I'm getting at is that there is NO cookie cutter definition of a 'great BMX rider'. And I F'N love that! Cheers to Corey!

As a trans man who is fairly new to this industry, I appreciate you all getting together to talk more about Corey's story. I took the conversation on a tangent that was more about an experience I had that wasn’t relevant to Corey whatsoever. Just decided to cut it out to keep it on point. But yes, I like to stir the pot at times and I can be pretty blunt/honest to a fault, so I can definitely come across as shitty for a moment/snippet. @@erikhortsch I personally haven't had it but I wasn't even aware it was carbonated. I thought it was just regular water in a can. Too expensive for me to even try it.
The black can is bubbly and kind of an acquired taste, but good 🤷🏽♂️ white can is regular water. They’re just a dollar where I am. And able to recycle the cans for bike parts 👍🏻 can’t recycle plastic bottles here for some reason. Less (bottle) waste in the skate parks.

as i get older,ill be 50 this year. I have moved away from labeling people and the sexual preference. OR lets say I try to. We should get away from the gay,straight,bi,names and just say "my sexual preference"..Why did we label people in the first place? I actually see both sides. Overall, I'm glad it's helped him so much. Corey is probably my favorite rider right now. I LOVE how he rides. And even though I'm not against him being gay or anything, I can see how people can get annoyed by constantly hearing about everyone's sexual orientation, but like he said, it helps other ppl, and even for himself it's a huge weight off of his shoulders. So even though a piece of me gets annoyed by constantly hearing about everyone's sexual orientation, I'm actually really glad he did it. He's already such a killer rider, I'm interested to see if this helps him go even bigger. Like what if he just goes to a whole other level now? Lol

I dont have a link but he did a full podcast with tj laven like 5 years ago where they talked about it. Pretty intense, at one point he said he wanted to drop in on the Hoover dam to kill himself, shit made me cry. He's the fucking man! Machined his and his husbands wedding bands!
The radio show (I think it was Sirius or actual radio) was called “Anything Goes with Tj Lavin and Forest Griffin” and Matt Beringer was on episode 25. And maybe it’s some some MTV or UFC contractual thing, but I can’t find a link to the show or episode. I’m sure if you Google enough you’ll find it though. I heard it a few years ago, it exists lol.
